  2. Very true, and I should have noted that membership is required to view the content originally, and have done so now. I don't want to minimize @wkeller's work in any way (he is also a member here) so I won't copy the post here, but I will give you a teaser by listing all of the various browsers mentioned in that post. You'll need to either look them up yourself or sign up and go to the post I linked to above for the links (xxxxxxx) to the download locations. As far as being actively updated, he has already added the SRWare Iron links I sent him and posted here earlier. So here are all of the Windows 7 compatible browsers I am aware of, thanks to @wkeller ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Firefox fully supports Windows 7 until September 2024 (xxxxxxx), so you can download any version before that date. 3. Yep! FYI, if you want to discuss modifications, changes, corrections, or anything else related to legacy extensions for UXP browsers more deeply, then you can transfer your discussion about it to my thread Extensions and custom buttons for UXP browsers - Corrections, modifications, adjustments, and special recommendations, only if wanted, of course. That thread was created by me especially for this purpose. In the first post of my thread, you will find more information about it. However, @roytam1's thread here actually aims more at his browser editions, related issues, and rather rarely extensions. Anyway! Talking about legacy extensions here is not totally off-topic, either. Greetings, AstroSkipper

  9. Update notification! Malware Hunter has been updated on 18.09.2023 and is now available in version 1.172.0.790. It is still listed to be compatible with Windows XP. Accordingly, I will update my article as soon as I can confirm its XP-compatibility. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  10. Agreed !!! Us XP users should be sticking together !!! The "tiresome" part of this thread is that non-XP users are CONTROLLING the "narrative" !!! And we "should not" enable that to go on by a Band Of Brothers mindset of going around "liking" anything and everything for the sake of "liking" anything and everything. Just my opinion, of course. Okay, let's resume from where I left off. I have an XP-era laptop with three XP x86 partitions. I've placed Kaspersky on one partition, Panda on a second, I'm seeking suggestions for which anti-virus to be placed on that third partition.

  13. I have a (huge) lot of FF/NM's backups, starting from 3.6.28 times. And all the installed add-ons are unpacked. So I did search all files 'chrome.manifest' containing 'content '. Total 98 add-ons found. All entries are structured as content [add-on nickname] [value]. Typical values are: jar:chrome/[bla-bla-bla].jar!/[*] content/ content/[bla-bla-bla]/ chrome/content/ chrome/content/[bla-bla-bla]/ chrome/[bla-bla-bla]/content/ Rare but functioning values are: ./ chrome/ Unusual and non-functioning value, present only in Norwell, is: / The next question is - why slash works within archive and do not work in directory? Is it somehow connected with WXP rules that treats slashes? I think that it is within a step to off-topic. But just now the question is about why/how WXP behaves differently, including possible influence of some long-lasting FF/PM/NM unZIP-on-the-fly library. This version is not mentioned in http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=2860307 Is there any source that can be recomended to JustOff to include in CAA?

  17. Months ago, I installed and checked 360 Total Security from Qihoo in the version 10.8.0.1541, which I didn't like, though. I wrote about it in the old antivirus thread. Now, there is a brand new version available, 360 Total Security 11.0.0.1042. Maybe, this one? In any case, it has a real-time protection function and is still listed to be compatible with Windows XP. But, be attentive during installation to deselect what you don't want, if that's possible!

  18. That shouldn't really be the case, and I'm sorry about that, but I'm trying to prevent any misunderstandings, given the posts here. It is of course clear that Malwarebytes is no longer interested in old versions. They want to leave the era of Windows XP and Vista behind. If you have read my old posts about how I was treated in the Malwarebytes forum as a Windows XP user, especially by their moderators, there is no need for any further explanation. But there was also a small glimmer of hope where an ordinary member had apologised to me for his behaviour.

  20. That's right. A self-protection function of an antimalware programme is actually a good thing, but it can also cause problems. Especially if you uninstall it. I have experienced this several times.

The window "Edit Bookmark" appears, if the bookmark exists. Old problem from 2011 - never really completely fixed. I don't know, whether the culprit is still in it: https://sourceforge.net/p/kernelex/feature-requests/7/

  34. This is an Older NT-Family OSes discussion. As such, there will always be a LAG with "cutting edge". Basically, "we don't care" about the LAG being YEARS. We have our JUSTIFIABLE reasons for using Older NT-Family OSes. I'd still be using Opera 10, if it worked ! And I did - 'till the end. BTW, I don't know how modern Chrome looks on XP, but it still looks the same on Vista (with aero), and it all that matters. So why not use it ? I don't want to get into arguments, but obviously we use a different set of websites. You of all know, I loved this browser when it made sense for me.

  35. What about RAM ? Also amost 1GB with an emply page too ? PS. You need this update for DX11 (Windows6.0-KB971512) on Vista for all these to work, it's achievable. I just turn it off intentionally. I only use hardware Skia. Also, you would need to force gpu usage via flags, but the ones you already used is a good start. Check if your chrome runs an additional GPU process.

  40. ESENT has been around since Windows 2000 through Windows 11. Maybe this will help explain ESENT, and convince you that it is both not "junk" and also useful. From https://www.minitool.com/news/esent.html: What Is ESENT? --------------- What is ESENT? ESENT is an embeddable transactional database engine. It was first provided with Microsoft Windows 2000 and has been available to developers since then. You can use ESENT for applications that require reliable, high-performance, and low-overhead structured or semi-structured data storage. The ESENT engine can meet a variety of data requirements, from simple data like hash tables to data that cannot be stored in memory to more complex data (such as applications with tables, columns, and indexes). Now, many teams at Microsoft currently rely on ESENT for data storage, such as Active Directory, Windows Desktop Search, Windows Mail, Live Mesh, and Windows Update. Besides, Microsoft Exchange uses a slightly modified version of the ESENT code to store all its mailbox data.

  41. I was going to agree with @UCyborg I'm not sure how XP does it, but for my Win 7 system, I'll have one instance of explorer.exe for the desktop, then another for each instance of Windows Explorer I open. But since it hasn't happened again, then maybe it was just a glitch, so never mind. Cheers and Regards

  43. Yes , you're right . I just thought it was necesary to tag a supervisor so he could intervene and keep this topic clean , also add a function where one could be able to block members . Besides , I've already asked a user (not pointing fingers at anyone) to stop disturbing win32 and me with longish texts containing the same questions over again . Please tell , is there a "block user" function over here ? I can see only "ignore" , but that isn't helping.

  44. I wanna back with @dencorso . I can go a long way describing the ugliest things that 21st century has brought. But I guess that makes no sense, since you most likely don't remember the 20th. I totally agree with him about "oversensitive generation" , I have a girlfriend , almost 20 years yonger than me , and she is so oversensitive , oh boy . Literally about everything that previous generations wouldn't even notice . But you're right , we should keep this topic clean , so I'll refrain from it . I'm just saying that your "solution" is not working in my case (but @dencorso is right again , you shouldn't delete , it could be somewhat useful to others), and the instructions that were given by our guru @win32 (local , no updates after April 2017 , etc ) are 100% bullet proof. By the way , how things are going under this "virus" "lockdown" in your favourite 21st century ? (rhetorical question) "lockdown" is a prison term , but that seems to be ok with most of young people/millenials ?! (rhetorical too) Rhetorical means you don't have to write an answer , so I'm not waiting for one . I really hope you'll keep in balance after reading this, please don't get nervous.

  45. Hi , I'd like to add . All versions starting from Opera 69 do NOT remember extensions' settings . They revert all settings to default if the browser is re-launched. Chromium is even worse . It simply turns them off (tested on chrome 86). I mean the extensions without locale settings , which I managed to install.
