  1. I congratulate the new owner of basilisk, @basilisk-dev, for setting the stage for this change, and Moonchild for having reformed its development team into a more amicable gang that what used to be the case long (hopefully) ago. Above all, I congratulate and thank @roytam1, for the consistency and quality of his work over the years: whenever the history of the decade long siege the oligopolistic gang imposed (mostly unsuccessfully) against XP just to maintain rents is told (I'm sure there will be a PhD or two out there with the capacity and interest to do so), you will be remembered, mate (and those who were helpful to you). They shall not pass.

  4. IE11 is multi-process and slow (for those that apparently never used it). At least in JavaScript. Multi-process is a hoax IMO, another bad Googleism. Sorry, nobody will convince me I need this multi-process nonsense to display a bunch of images, text, dynamic elements, voice-chat etc. while a competent (single-process!) game engine will proces inputs of dozens of players, render the world in player's sight while animating all natural occurrences (river flowing, trees rustling), dynamic shadow casting, sun flares...while players are shooting each other on foot, in tanks, jeeps, airplanes, explosions going off, buildings being torn apart... All at buttery-smooth frame-rate. Surely network conditions are always less than ideal with latencies considerably higher than the time it will take the engine to run through the game loop to produce a single frame, but that's AFAIK compensated by client-side interpolation and action prediction. Why do I need multi-process Skype/Teams and other such poop again? Web has become such an ugly monstrosity that I think people responsible deserve nothing less than being packed in a rocket with the course set straight to the Sun.

  5. With Windows 11 the situation is kind of opposite to Vista's. 11 has artificially increased hardware requirements, while the recommended 1GHz and 1GB ram was definitely not enough to run Vista smoothly. It was actually Windows 10 that was pushed into old hardware (especially with magnetic HDDs where it run terribly bad). So the strategy of marketing the OS as "super premium" for hi-spec PCs only would make much more sense in 2007 with all that shiny Aero Glass and Gadgets than it does now.

  6. I haven't added up the byte count for this one. Those that have been around for a while have heard me complain about my Water Bill web site - ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY EIGHT SCRIPTS !!! I had to painstakingly block one by one, log out, log back in, rinse and repeat. Many weeks later, I only allow THIRTEEN of those one hundred and sixty eight scripts to do their thing. My water bill site NO LONGER pukes tree-hugger environmentalist crap at me each and every time I log in. Got NOTHING against environmentalist causes, I just want to know how much my water bill is and shouldn't have to parse through "crap" to find it! My water bill web site now basically ONLY shows me how much I owe! I don't need a history chart of my water usage, I don't need to know about the latest environmentalist causes, I just want to pay my water bill. I can no longer "pay" my bill on their web site, I only use it to see how much I owe then I make the payment from my checking account web site. I don't need one hundred and sixty eight scripts, I only "need" THIRTEEN of them (Proxomitron replaces them with a "dummy.js" local file so that the web browser doesn't log the intentional .js block as an "error").

  7. Googletagmanager is obviously blocked, surprised I haven't been blocking cdnjs.cloudflare. Correction - I am blocking cloudflare but via uMatrix so that's why Proxomitron's log still shows it. I'm showing 1,860,754 bytes of javascript for the web page we are reading right now. 1.86 megabytes. Could be worse, I don't have Facebook or I'd see how many of megabytes we have there.

  8. "Ay, there's the rub." Look at this very MSFN page. Take your shoes off and borrow the hands and feet of another person, you'll need that many "digits" to count how many scripts exist for even this page!

  9. @VistaLover Google is heavily entrenched into all pours (or whatever is the right term) of digital life, something radical would have to happen for that to turn around. It goes beyond the web and smart phones. My new car has portions of Google's software on-board, but besides few bells and whistles, it's as manual as one could get in 2022.

  15. Vista was fine. Just ahead of it's time with the system requirements. To me, Vista was the best looking Windows ever made. And with the proper hardware it ran rock solid, just like Windows 7. Win11 is the second best looking Windows imo. But I have had more broken OS problems after Windows 11 WU runs. I disliked the messy UI of Windows 10 so I stayed with Windows 7 until 11 came out. Windows 11 will probably get one or two big updates and then it is going to maintenance mode while new development will shift to Windows 12, or whatever the next Windows will be called.

Auto delete cookies, localStorage and IndexedDB objects as soon as they become unused." A very cloudy crap "...as soon as they become unused." They shouldn't be created/used in the first place , there's no "use" for them ! So it's crap, Like I thought,

  20. Thank you , it's a tough (hard as steel ) question, not everything you can block with just that ! The browser engine itself needs to be updated too ! I'm not among those who do it every week, but 3 years old is too much. I suggest to upgrade ones browser every 6 months or so. Second part, I don't agree with the precedent fellow, stealing cookies wouldn't involve scripts of any kind. With years cookies themselves became more complex , there's a new generation of "worker" cookies that may have a script inside that you can't block ! I already gave an example with the Mega website.
    1 point
  21. I assumed you meant smth like this: (you wrote steeling cookies) hardening (!?) cookies. But then again, considering the way you spell, sometimes hard to understand, sorry ! So no reason to be mad. Web security : hardening cookies/ https://odino.org/security-hardening-http-cookies/
    1 point
  22. It's literally another word/meaning what you wrote, a typo would be smth like steering. So one could have assumed you meant hardening (strong as steel). I didn't know you had a god complex, sorry, I had no clue you would react this way to a simple doubt about what you meant .
    1 point
  23. Not sure what you meant by "cookie steeling", could it be your special English version again ? If you meant hardening, it's another subject . It is called cookie stealing. And no matter what, they aren't only classic cookies per se, they could be in the worker folder , also a form of never deleted cookies . Mega uses this form of a cookie to fingerprint you , there was an explanation from their support some time ago, they told it needs to be done to limit you to 1GB or so (not sure how much exactly). So the security error you all see, is pretty much it.

  25. I don't know about "non-stop", I suspect it happens on start, but this information is widely available, could be easily found, like the example I gave you above about stealing ones cookies. EDIT : @Milkinis, in theory, there are methods to switch off the "file system" , I'm not sure about the success though.
    1 point
  26. Inconvenient, might drive someone nuts ? I don't know.
    1 point
  27. Well read again what I wrote, one doesn't need to "infect" it per se. Stealing a cookie would be already enough to bring you troubles. Or just execute a script to steal your identity . Read about "file system feature" in Chrome, for example. It has access to your files ! Or scroll back to see how this browser spins up/scans even sleeping HDDs !
    1 point
  28. Well, I'm sure and I'll answer instead of you, there's lots of things that could be done using ones browser, one example would be malicious java scripts. Another one, cross cookie stealing. When one cookie from a malicious website steals your bank cookie and then makes a login into your account.

  32. Just a reminder! Any changes to an installation of ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy, especially the installation of a new CA certificate, or severe crashes of the system while one of the proxies was running in the background, always requires a reset of all dummy certificates in the Certs subfolder. The word "reset" at this point means deleting all certificates manually that have been created in the Certs folder. The next time the proxy is started correctly, all necessary certificates will be created again when the corresponding websites are accessed. Renaming or saving the Certs folder is completely unnecessary. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  33. @Anbima! This thread is dedicated to the 360Chrome browsers. Here you'll find the answer to your request about Mypal 68: Cheers, AstroSkipper

  34. Of course! I can write PMs in any language I want to use. But, that wasn't the intention of my statement! PM is meant for personal or private communication, and that isn't the case here. I generally do not answer questions on the topic of a thread via PM. I did that once, and I will never do it again. Any requests and their answers or solutions to technical problems should be posted in the appropriate threads so that others can participate and benefit from them.

  35. There is no problem using other languages than English in personal messages here as far as I know. If conversing in German is more comfortable, use that system.

  36. Read my article! BTW, MSFN is an English-speaking forum only! Therefore unfortunately, no!

  37. You can't have used Mypal 68 for that long, it's only been around for a few months. Please, don't forget it is still under development and in a beta state! And, I can't confirm your assessment at all. Mypal 68 is faster and more resource-efficient than the 360Chrome browsers. BTW, we are of course talking about Mypal 68 in single process mode. Anyway, sorry , but the truth has to be told!
    1 point
  38. Both, the abandoned Mypal 29 and the current Mypal 68, were and are great projects. The sources they were ported from can be trusted. BTW, Mypal 68 is based on Firefox 68. And moreover, @feodor2 can be trusted in the same way as @roytam1. 360Chrome browsers are basically Chinese browsers, modified Chrome browsers, full of telemetric implementations, spyware and ads. It doesn't matter where the developer comes from. It's more a question of sources and trust. I wrote programs for our TLS proxies, and I am German. And now?
    1 point
  39. You may be right. Nevertheless, it is always a question of trust. And if you have the choice between a Chinese browser that was modified by Russians, and then not fully translated into the English language, and on the other hand a browser that was ported from the Mozilla community, the choice is not really difficult in terms of security and privacy. Right? I use the 360Chrome browsers, too, but only rarely. I would neither enter any passwords, secret information, nor any payment related data into one of these 360Chrome browsers. I do not trust them at all! And, today even less than before! And to be honest, it would not matter to me whatever the outcome of any safety tests. My main browsers are New Moon 28, Serpent 52, and Mypal 68. 360Chrome browsers are only fed by me with Google-infested rubbish, where security and privacy don't matter anyway. But, as paradoxical as it may sound, I am still glad that these Chrome browsers exist in Windows XP.

  41. Frankly, I use Chrome browsers in Windows XP very rarely, only for Googlized websites or comparisons with roytam1's browsers. More recent versions don't mean to be better. 360Chrome v11 is just about bearable in terms of its performance and resource consumption, 360Chrome v13 on the other hand is beyond good and evil in my low-resource system. And yes, the installed version of v13 is 360ChromePortable 13.0.2206 rebuild 9. This is the recommended version (actually 13.0.2107) by @NotHereToPlayGames as far as I know. Supposedly, you won't gain any benefits if upgrading to version v13.5. Yes, I trust build 2107 more. It's been more stable for my use. Mileage may vary. It's NOT a "downgrade". The build numbers seem to confuse far to many people. Halfway through v13, the original creator went to Chromium v86.4240.198. Some of the earlier v13's stem from Chromium v86.4240.112. Even v13.5 and v13.6 use the same exact v86.4240.198 - YOU GAIN NOTHING. I *distrust* v13.5 and v13.6 - I WILL NOT BE UPGRADING THEM (so don't even ask, wink wink).

  45. Hello @cnfcomps! Thanks for your nice reply! BTW, it was not only a collecting of information about restoring MU system in Windows XP but own work and solutions, too, which were very time-consuming. An Autostart option will be a feature in one of the next releases if I can see a real interest in my already published program package. An author lives from the feedback of the users, and the feedback on my project ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3 3V3 is rather modest. Only few comments and reactions on my program package itself! You're welcome! Cheers, AstroSkipper PS: If you like my project or my program package, please, support it by liking or up-voting!

  46. Hello @SC7601! That's correct! I would be very pleased if I got feedback from users who can test my program package in a real installation (no VM) of Windows XP on a period-correct hardware. BTW, my Windows XP computer is equipped with a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Northwood single core CPU and only 1.5 GB SD-RAM. No SSD, no SATA but IDE hard disks, and the graphic card is NVIDIA 6200 AGP 4x. You see, we both are running Windows XP on a Pentium 4. You do not need to use old Chrome browsers. In the MSFN forum, we have a lot of browsers compatible with Windows XP and quite recent to surf the web nowadays. Here is the link to the post of my program package: And here is the link to the forum with topics referring to browsers in Windows XP: https://msfn.org/board/forum/201-browsers-working-on-older-nt-family-oses/ If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask me!
