  1. I have chosen to block Cocodile’s content, but from your quotation it appears that he has dredged up old privacy concerns about Avast that were of course discussed in another thread more than 3 years ago (MSFN wasn’t born yesterday, and AstroSkipper and I were both Avast users back then). To make a long story short, Avast halted the practice soon after it was widely publicized. Here’s a link that was first brought to our attention by @jaclaz, who I thank: https://www.pcmag.com/news/avast-to-end-browser-data-harvesting-terminates-jumpshot

  2. More like: "this exploit is also developed in Russia" LMAO Jokes aside, thanks for the info, but I don't really feel like using anything Russian made on my machine and I think it's the same for pretty much everyone here...

  3. If you're worried about an NSA backdoor, it doesn't have one, don't worry. Besides, the XP version won't be updated anyway (aside from getting the virus definition updates), so we're safe even though now the company is no longer the one it used to be...

  4. @MWF look https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/218#issuecomment-1604600668 Shall plan to publish the new release upon next week. I did like a stress test on mypal 68.13. My pc is core2duo 8500 3.16 ghz, 3 gb ram, hardware accel is off - default value, multiporcesses are 3 for tabs, 1 for extension, 1 for rdd (5 at all - these are default), other settings also default. Also have extensions: ublock, decentrales, сanvasblock, xiaoxiaoflood userChromeJS and downthemall for firefox 68 3gb ram was filled at 30 tabs 15 youdube (one playing) and 15 aliexpress. No any crashes Was opening more tabs, 20 at all 10 for yt and 10 for ali What i notices are freezings and slowdowns when i switch tabs, many windows about "script not responding" where i pushed continue, after all it was still usable. Finally i have closed the browser with all 50 tabs, it has not closed at once though, takes a minute while and closed all successfully. By the way name the most heavy site you know, for me it is yotube. IN CONCLUSION I suggest to leave settings on their default values, toggle ones only if you well know what they do and why, especially do not forcefully turn acceleration, webgl and other grafics stuff, it still remains broken on winxp.

  5. While i was downloading Windows XP updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog, i realized this task could be done much faster. For that reason, i decided to make a PowerShell script for batch downloading updates from a list, featuring filters for language, NT version and architecture. I'm aware there is already another GUI application with a similar purpose, but you might find this one more fitting for your context as it has some key differences, such as: - Focused on simplicity. Command-line operation only - Script available under a permissive license (Unlicense) - Code and its functioning is commented and documented to its best. Take a look at the code to learn how it works. - It can run natively on Linux, even on a Raspberry Pi - A function lets you download the details page in HTML format for each update, ready for offline read I've made it available both on my website and GitHub: https://github.com/blueclouds8666/msupdate-dl http://neonfloppy.sytes.net/projects/msupdate-dl/ Let me know if you found it useful, I'll be listening feedback to improve the script if needed.

  6. Hello @Cocodile! I have actually had similar experiences. Avast had always been a performance brake in my old PC. It is a terribly bloated programme package. When I tried to uninstall it a few months ago, the uninstall routine failed completely. Here you can read what I had to go through: I had similar problems with Eset NOD32 Antivirus.

  7. And now for those who use, the old, long abandoned Avast Antivirus Free 18.8, which is the last compatible version for Windows XP. It's not only insecure, it is very bloated, slowing down computers, I had a terrible experience with it on my XP era notebook Toshiba Satellite A50 it was not possible to uninstall it, so I had to reformat the HDD using the original DVD for my XP system. Their own "tool" failed to do it and glitched out the whole PC to the point of no return! Is there any other AV which fails to even uninstall easily? https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads/solved-avast-is-impossible-to-uninstall-solved.443038/

  8. Asking Kaspersky whether his competitor Avast is safe. Nice joke! I will soon ask the chef of a restaurant I visit if his food is good.

  11. you can't compare a software utility from a large company tied to the KREMLIN to amateur projects that work perfectlly well on XP I don't think every russian made tool out there is utilized as an ''exploit'' https://github.com/dragokas/hijackthis

  12. I do not like it much either, there are still plenty of 32bit Windows, I have even see several 32 bit Win10 laptops that were not up-gradable to 64 bit because of UEFI BIOS. So in the end I think there are more 32bit windows than Linux desktops. Even if all AMD/Intel CPUs have been 64bit since the early 2000s... Also I always saw the duality or architectures as a free sanitizer, you would be surprised on how many subtle bugs can be found by just building and testing in both 64bit and 32bit. There were a lot of buggy 32 bit programs that were hard to port to 64bit and now I see random programs that have a ton of warning simply when you build them for 32bit and some of them cannot even work. Bad coding habits still exist but have just migrated from :"I assume my CPU is 32bit so int == void* and stuff" to "I know my CPU is 64bit so uint64_t == void* and stuff". Windows 10 will be supported until 2025 (and possibly beyond), so dropping 32bit support is very strange because it is still maintained by Microsoft.

  15. Thank you! That's all one would need to know about Russian "security" software! I really appreciate your advice and will make sure to avoid that programme in the future! With such members like you, who are open-minded and always ready to show the truth, the World will hear the warnings!

  20. Thanks for the information! Good to know! BTW, I never had any BSODs. I am using Mypal 68 in single-process mode, though.

  21. @windows2 It is easy to put 5.0 instead 5.1, i can do this. Actually i wonder how you made it work on win2000, if others tell it is not going to work on winxp sp2, and even if they managed to launch it they got bsod everytime. New goal is to resolve bsod problem

  25. @XPerceniol, 3GB is obviously not enough for the "modern" web. MSFN is getting heavier and heavier each day for me too , I also noticed lags when typing in reply windows or creating new topics . All those flags you're trying to add are already included in my version , this one also , of course ! They are just inside , the "ini" file is inside , so you can't see it . Did you try MSFN with my version ? Don't forget to start it from the red "O" icon.
    1 point
  26. Yep , thought so , but honestly I think it has nothing to do with our pretty similar quad CPUs , I'll try to test with a Pentium for that exact socket , which I recently bought for 5 euros , lol. I will test with the same amount of RAM (DDR3 16GB).

  27. Geez , coders these days .... a couple gigs of super fast DDR3 RAM just to read some text !

  28. He's right , v13 (any version from the 13th series) is very RAM hungry . If I open one (1) page at MSFN , let's say the main page , it uses way over 1GB of RAM ! I have only basic extensions , like uBlock and dark mode. If I add noscript and the such , it will go even higher . If I allow ads on MSFN (which I sometimes do) , it may go up to 1.5 GB and even more ! On the other hand , those other old versions are obsolete . Can't do shopping with them. Slow youtube , terrible scrolling at IG and Twitter. Again , v.13 works cool , but you gotta have 16GB of RAM , or 8 (bare minimum). P.S. Wanted to be clear , 1 - 1.5 GB for the browser alone , not the whole system. The system would be at 3-3.5 or something like that.

  29. @IXOYE is right , I have the same problem . It reverts back to the russian or chinese squares . Dixel's method works , but it can revert back again sometimes . @NotHereToPlayGames , any way to hardcode it into the browser ?

  30. Yep , that's because he made his version from a russian repack , so you need to switch from russian to be able to view with normal fonts/language . Here's how to do it , this image is from the russian website where he got his version . https://www.upload.ee/image/13076295/360ee.gif

  31. FAQ: Q: Having audio distorted when watching Twitter/etc.? A: Please try turning on "Firefox compatibility" in options dialog or either "general.useragent.compatMode = 2" or "general.useragent.compatMode.firefox = true" in about:config and reload the page. Q: Can't play H264 clips? (for PM27/KM76/FF45) A: Download following packages for your browser edition(32bit/64bit) and extract DLLs to same place as palemoon.exe lives. 32bit LAV dlls are in separated package (extracted from K-Lite codec pack 13.5.5) https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav.7z Just in case if you have an older processor which has no SSE instruction set support: 32bit NoSSE (ffmpeg 3.1.1 lite build) https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-mmx.7z 32bit No ASM (ffmpeg 3.1.1 lite build, if build above doesn't work on your processor) https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav-dll-lite-noasm.7z 64bit LAV dlls are in separated package (LAV Filters 64bit 0.70.2) https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/lav64.7z Q: AV1 Support? (for UXP-based applications except mailnews) A: You need to enable "media.av1.enabled" in about:config Q: VP9 Support? (for PM27) A: VP9 works if async MSE option is unchecked and "Enable MSE for WebM Video" checked in options. Q: Extensions/Themes not working after updating binaries. A: If you encounter extensions not show icon, clicking options button of extension causing browser unresponsive, etc. please try following actions: 1.a Killing palemoon.exe process 1.b Copy whole extensions folder out of profile folder (to somewhere else for example, desktop) 1.c Restart browser without restoring previous sessions 1.d Goto about:addons page 1.e Drop XPI files from the copied-out extensions folder to about:addonss page One-by-One. 1.f After all XPI files are dropped and installed/updated, restart browser Q: Virus detected? A: Tell your anti-virus program to exclude palemoon.exe and/or plugin-container.exe. Some anti-virus heuristic engines (for example symantec's sonar engine) is too sensitive to palemoon.exe/plugin-container.exe network activities. Q: Where's your patches for compiling my own? A: Please visit the link above "FAQ:". Latest source patch files are named "sources_patches_YYYYMMDD.7z" in that page. Q: basilisk browser showing basic pages in GMail? A: set these to "ture" in about:config general.useragent.compatMode.firefox general.useragent.compatMode.gecko Q: Should I let official Pale Moon and "New Moon" both using same profile (at the same time / alternatively)? A: it is not recommend to do that, as they have different NSS security library, which has different encryption procedure to the saved password database. Same profile being "touched" by different gecko/goanna applications may cause unexpected behaviors. If you want to launch both Pale Moon and "New Moon" / Basilisk and "Serpent" / etc. at the same time, one of them should be in "--no-remote" portable mode. Q: How to change User Interface language? A: Please see this post: Q: Portable Loader? A: You can always use official portable launcher with my binaries, or you can use my simple portable loader written in NSIS: Q: How to install extensions/themes in BNavigator browser? A: Please check this post out: (EDIT: you may need to change minVersion to 0.9.0a1 as upstream changed version to a lower value after this guide existed) Q: I want to verify if archive is not changed by others! A: from 30 October 2019, new archives will have ".asc" GPG detached signature. You can download signature separately by appending ".asc" (without quotation marks) after the archive URL. You can get my public key by following instructions in this post: Q: I'm getting 0xC000001D error when starting Serpent/UXP-ia32 browser! A: your processor does not support CMOV instruction. VC2015 IA32 build requires CMOV instruction support. here is a list of processors with CMOV instruction support: - Intel: Pentium Pro or later - AMD: K7 (original Athlon/Duron) or later - VIA: C7 or later - Transmeta: all CPUs are capable to run sp52-ia32. - Cyrix/IBM: 6x86MX or later, MediaGXm(MediaGX-S) or later - National Semiconductor/AMD: Geode GX or later - DM&P/Vortex86: Vortex86DX3 or later Q: I need WebAssembly support! A: for NM28/SP52, go to about:config and enable javascript.options.wasm
