  1. Very depressing news.. I had feared for the worst for some time now, given that he had not been active here, and had not responded to messages I sent previously. Den was one of the few people "online" who I considered a true friend, and I will sorely miss his presence here. While I had not spoken much with him over the past couple of years (where does the time go? ), he was always helpful and always ready to give clear insight on whatever issue we discussed. He was very wise, and not only on the subject of computers. While not the subject of this forum, he understood historical and political nuances that befuddle most. I believe my first interaction with him revolved around problems with a flash drive.. and IIRC by the time it was over the discussion included rloew and jaclaz as well. Now of these greats only jaclaz remains with us. I never expected to become one of the "old ones" - yet here I am. My pitiful knowledge can never live up to the bar set by Den and others, and I will never be the "diplomat" that he could be when dealing with differing viewpoints and difficult members. I know that this forum and the collection of knowledge that it represents mattered to him, so let us all work to continue and preserve it in memory of him. Rest in peace my friend. You will not be forgotten.

  3. as we all know support for windows xp is slowly growing thin over the past few year and updates are getting harder and harder to find nowadays even with update packs even browsers are harder to find so is windows xp still usable at all in 2023-beyond?

  4. Yeah, I didn't use Sigma at all. I just did a normal calculation.

  5. And these values tell me that on old, underpowered computers with a 32-bit processor and Windows XP, the 360Chrome 13.5 build 2022 browser is not an option. This browser needs a 64-bit processor which old, "period correct" computers don't have.

  8. My Windows 95 on a 486 Vesa local bus system is still perfectly usable, for playing MP3s (at 22kHz max) and playing Freecell. I expect it to remain usable for such until the capacitors die of old age. Then I will recap it, making it usable for another 20 years. Just a silly remark, for the vague statement of 'usable'.

  18. I would use 12.18 instead of 12.02, if I were to use Opera 12.

  19. Thanks, indeed I initially used the "ungoogled" version. Thinking less google equals better? Now with the normal edition, I could easily add extensions and also added Draker's two parameters. Good te see all three extensions work. That is Dark Reader / change all UI fonts / uBlock origin. The program UI is still ugly luna/white, but that is just 10% of what I am looking at. MSFN forum looks very nice now, in my taste. Posting this from Chrome too. I notice in the task manager, 360chrome.exe is spawned six times, for a single tab. Then additional single entries spawn for each tab?

  21. I wouldn't be too worried about app support if everything wasn't based on Electron these days. If Google pulls the plug with Chromium next year, it's only a matter of time before programs like Discord, WhatsApp, Steam and Spotify and most the new launchers like Rockstar Games Launcher/Epic Games just stop working since you can't disable auto-updates (Except Steam and Spotify). Sure, everything except Steam can be bypassed by using the web version of Firefox, etc., but then you have to rely on the browser's notification system and things like system icons in the taskbar and per-app volume controls are gone. Kinda crazy to think that Windows 10 is now the "minimum" OS for perfect app combatibilty. In 2014 I installed Windows XP on my then current system to test how well it was still supported and had absolutely no problems with it. Then in 2016, XP/Vista went downhill at the same time.

  22. Less/cut features, OK. Adds within the application, OK. But adds added to outgoing messages? WTF!? This isn't reputable by any means, especially nowadays - messages/content should always be untouched! kind regards soggi
