  2. Hello old friend! You should probably specify the update level of your Vista VM. There may be legacy software that worked fine on build 6002 patched to April 2017, but was broken by 6003 (Microsoft predicted as much in 2019). There might be newer software that depends on SHA-2 support that wasn’t available for 6002. If a program relied on Internet Explorer’s engine, then support for TLS 1.2 (not available in April 2017 but predating the build number change) might be necessary. The possibilities are bewildering and perfection might be unobtainable, but I know you will do a good job!

  3. Unfortunately starting from TODAY (a few hours ago to be exact) it is no longer possible to update ESET NOD32 Antivirus on xp :'( they gave an 'End of life' to all versions up to 9 included, which coincidentally is the latest working version on XP. I've been using (and still am) NOD32 for so long now... in the past i even used version 5 or 6 till that one End of life'd/stopped updating... and today unfortunately 9 did was a good run and silly of them to do it to begin with honestly... this afternoon i still updated up to: 26000 Sep-28-2022, 10:38 CEST (UTC/GMT +02:00) which according to their website (https://www.virusradar.com/en/update/info/) has 2 more already after that... but i REALLY doubt that not having updates can really harm you with an 'almost' up to date one like 26000 for even years to come.. specially if you also have a FW installed that regulates what processes/programs get permission to run what else (like literally not a single program/file can execute another or do anything major without me approving it to before it does it) But yeah, thought ill note it down and give the update that ESET NOD32 shat the bed and knowingly that their version 9 is the latest one working on xp, added it along with the previous ones of their 'End of life' ones. they could have easily kept it updating for a few years without much hassle... oh well.

  4. Sorry to hear about ESET. Avast ended support for XP and Vista 4 years ago, but version 18.8 still receives definition updates. For more information and official download links: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.0

  5. ... Well, they might claim they still support Vista, but the actual story is different: This is with latest "stable" v3.5.0 (digitally signed on Jul 3rd 2022); the binary has been compiled to target at least Win7, with a SubSys version of 6.1: Using specialised tools to modify the PE Header to a SubSysVer of 6.0 will yield an executable that does absolutely nothing (under Vista SP2 x86 at least) when double-clicked... Their "Beta" channel: will fetch (at this time) v3.5.5.46508beta ; the binary does have a SubSysVer=6.0 (thus will not produce the Error v3.5.0 does), but, again, it won't launch upon double-clicking ... So, my tests have shown that μTorrent doesn't support Vista SP2 32-bit at this time ... In fact, the last BETA build I have on disk that would launch here is v3.5.5.45291beta, digitally signed on Jul 1st 2019 :

  6. Ok, I already did it. I use this step and then magic happens I use the MMC method because adding the cert into the local computer option isn't available but the important thing the site works like normal

  7. Naturally, cause you don't have Palefill installed. And it will stop spin and show itself when it will be installed. Crazy-house, i know. I get link to it using 360 Extreme Explorer. Well it is a thing that execute some scripts in Pale Moon\New Moon until (and if) Pale Moon team have its own "Web Components" working. https://github.com/martok/palefill/releases/download/v1.21/palefill-1.21.xpi Here is the file itself: palefill-1.21.xpi

  8. ... A moot point now probably but, according to its maintainer, the last AdvChr54 build (54.20.6530.0) released on Jan 12th 2018 was mostly based on 48+51+54: http://web.archive.org/web/20180112094959/https://browser.taokaizen.com/ NB that while Google Chrome 48 was XP-compatible, versions 51/54 were NOT ... Off-Topic (slightly? ) : I launched AdvChr54 just a short while ago, after many months of not using it, and I'm really sad of how broken it has become ... I won't even mention the complete lack of extension support by the Google Store and extension authors (CRX2-packaged extensions aren't supported / offered by the GS anymore ), but its rendering engine is even struggling with "simple" sites such as MSFN: ... Such a shame ... So, despite their flaws, I think "we" (XP+Vista users) are fortunate enough to have access to the 360EE family of browsers ... The big question now is: How much further into the future a Chromium-86-based fork will get "us" ?

  10. This is not very relevant to this topic, but one would have to fill in the gaps and add XP/2003 functions in addition to the Vista+ functions for that to work properly. Then perhaps it could work, but there are some other ways in which the kernel side differs (XP has a distinct dxgkrnl, 2000 does not, but most XP graphics drivers were successfully ported to 2000, so perhaps the dxgkrnl functionality was implemented in win32k in 2000).

  11. These functions were already in Vista's ntoskrnl but not exported previously: wcstomb_s wcsncpy_s wcsncat_s wcscpy_s wcscat_s vswprintf_s vsprintf_s swprintf_s _vsnwprintf_s _ultow_s _snwprintf_s _snwscanf_s Maybe Server 2003 has some of them too, as that was when they started to be very concerned about buffer overflows in the kernel. I then added these functions with my own driver (unreleased due to isolated bugs on a small number of configurations while using certain drivers, but otherwise NVIDIA 398 is stable): memcpy_s KeQueryMaximumProcessorCountEx KeQueryLogicalProcessorRelationship strncpy_s _snprintf_s KeQueryUnbiasedInterruptTime (this is still a stub, which relies on the biased interrupt time; lacking time to implement the proper implementation in the driver which grabs the bias value from elsewhere in the shared kernel data iirc) I decided to upload the more complicated function implementations to here: https://github.com/win32ss/win32-api-reversals/tree/main/kernelmode There is also some preliminary work on improving dxgkrnl to use Vulkan with NVIDIA drivers on Vista, and perhaps attempts at WDDM 2.x support in the far off distance.

  12. Well, I just updated the list for the first time in nearly 2 years. I've managed to fix all broken download links in the Web browsers section, and added Mypal 68.x. I've decided to prevent myself from becoming overwhelmed/burned out, I'm just going to take it one section at a time each day until the list is complete. I'm so glad to finally get around to doing this after such a long time. Thank you everyone for your patience, compassion and understanding.

  13. If you do not want to map the KernelEx folder then place Depends.EXE, Depends.DLL and CHM into the KernelEx folder and operate DW from there.

  14. Hello everyone. I must extend my sincere apologies for being inactive here this year. My life has changed dramatically over the past year, from walking away from a toxic relationship, to putting myself through therapy to recover from the trauma that it caused me, to finding someone new, to working at the Post Office every day and that taking up most of my energy (as @LoneCrusader can relate ) the time has just gotten away from me, and I haven't made the time that I should have to keep this list up to date. With that being said, I am setting up a virtual machine of stock (NO extended kernel) Windows Vista to test software on, and continuing my obligation of providing Vista users with the best and most up-to-date resource available when it comes to running their favorite software on their preferred operating system. I am going to go through nearly every entry still listed as ONG as of October 2020, and find out which ones no longer fit the label of ONG, and try to narrow down exactly the final versions of these pieces of software to run on Vista, and list them here accordingly. I will also be going through and fixing every broken link I can find, as I'm sure a lot of them have stopped working over the past couple of years. Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding. I hope everyone here is happy, healthy & doing well! (Screenshot of VM so you know I'm serious about this :

  15. This is an old, well-known error! For more information: BTW, it doesn't matter whether XP or Vista. Getting the error code 0x80072f8f while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy always means to install its CA certificate to Trusted Root Certification Authority under the account local computer. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  16. You need to add the certificate from ProxhttpsProxy to the local computer by importing it to the root certificates in the group policy editor.

  17. The official and many of the unofficial ntdll.libs are missing certain functions like RtlGetVersion presumably because they are duplicated by kernel32 functions in practice, or possibly also because they aren't officially documented in any capacity. The ntdll libs in this repository contain RtlNtStatusToDosError as well as everything else: https://github.com/vxiiduu/VxKex
