  1. Yes, I know the methods and still experiment with them so that there are no errors with GPT disk on Windows XP. I confirm that Seagate Box does not mount the GPT disks on Windows XP or with Paragon GPT Loader or Windows 2003 drivers. I confirm that USB Logilink adapters work properly with GPT disk on Windows XP. Furthermore, I also confirm that USB Logilink AU0028A model does not work with MBR disks larger than 4 TB. In addition, this same model with the updated firmware has the MBR limit on 2 TB. This is possible a firmware downgrade. Oldest USB Logilink AU0028 (without letter "A") work without problems with MBR discs with 5 TB. I have five USB Logilink adapters, but only an old model that works without problems with MBR. Please, you comment SATA to USB adapters that work without problems with MBR disk on Windows XP or Windows 2000.

  4. After 10 years using Sandy Bridge, I have decided that the time has come to update my main hardware, I resisted updating, among other things, due to the stagnation of intel between 2012 and 2017 as well as the incompatibility of old Windows (already Kaby Lake was not even officially compatible with Windows 8.1). Then I found Alder Lake running on Windows 7 (with a dedicated graphics card): https://msfn.org/board/topic/183194-windows-7-on-the-intel-alder-lakez690-platform/, and I told myself it's time to upgrade! I have done several tests with different versions of Windows such as Windows 7, XP, and of course, Windows Vista. In this article I will summarize how I managed to install Windows Vista, although it is not the best option for such current hardware. Procedure to install Vista on an Alder Lake system: 1- Download USB 3.0 AMDXHCI drivers: Windows Vista, like Windows 7, are not compatible with USB 3 natively, so you have to proceed to unofficial universal drivers such as AMDXHCI, I leave a link to some specifically designed for Vista: here 2- Burn the Vista SP2 64-bit iso image on a USB stick: Do it with the Rufus program, if it's in GPT change it to MBR, change the file system to NTFS. After burning the ISO, copy the AMDXHCI folder to the root of your USB. 3- Enable CSM in BIOS 4- Time to install Vista!: Connect the USB memory in a USB 3.0 port, and use a PS2 mouse in this part since the whole USB will not work, when you click "Install Now" a dialog will appear asking for a driver, click on browse and locate the previously downloaded AMDXHCI. The installation is normal. 5- OOBE time: Before you get to the final Vista installation setup, press F8 as Vista starts and choose "Allow unsigned drivers" as USB 3.0 won't work. 6- Install essential drivers with SnappyDriverInstaller: When you get to the desktop you must install some drivers with SDI, select all the drivers that appear (except one for synaptics mouse) and install them without problems. Until here, ready, we already have Vista working in Alder Lake! Works: - HD Audio - USB 3.x It does not work: - Ethernet Without trying: - NVMe - Big-little Clarification: it is mandatory to use a dedicated graphics and disable the integrated graphics since with the latter the CSM will not work. You must have a dedicated network/wifi card since the ethernet provided by intel only works in Windows 10/11.

  5. Due to the doubts and the incipient erroneous articles published on the Internet saying that Windows XP does not have updated browsers, I open this post indicating the complete information on all the companies or software programmers that make versions of browsers compatible with Windows XP. But first it is necessary to clarify some fundamental concepts. The first is that today there are only 2 Internet browser projects for Windows. The Chromium project and the Mozilla foundation. No, the basic existing browsers are not Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Opera abandoned its own "Presto" browser engine in 2012, Microsoft stopped developing its own browser known as Internet Explorer in 2015 & and later stopped developing its own motor in Edge in 2019. Now both the Opera browser and Microsoft's browser are based on the Chromium project. An open source database for developing a web browser, maintained by various companies that later use the source code to create their own version of the browser with additional features. Google develops Chrome and Microsoft develops Edge, same as multiple companies using the same codebase as above, for example Opera. None of these companies develops versions compatible with Windows XP but many others do, for many they are unknown companies but in China they generally work with Windows XP due to the delicacy of the manufacturing processes and the independent control provided by this operating system. By not needing direct connections with Microsoft and therefore with the US Government. There are many Chinese browsers based on both Chromium and Mozilla, the Chromium versions come with telemetry for the Chinese Government to know which websites you visit (Google also does it for the USA and stronger) but there are modified versions that have this capacity removed . There are also browsers from other places but they are less developed such as Otter Browser or RetroZilla. Based on Mozilla we can also find updated browsers even for Windows 2000, although for this system they have not passed the beta phase as forks of K-Meleon and PaleMoon developed by Roytam1. Sin embargo for Windows XP you can find several browsers modified to work on this operating system, whose versions are continuously updated. These come in English and many can be patched in another language. For Windows XP I recommend using the English Chromium-based versions, especially 360 Extreme Explorer modified version without telemetry, due to their speed compared to Mozilla-based browsers. User interface can be found in English and in Chinese. Multilanguage only come with Kafan MiniBrowser (except installer), Maxthon and UC Browser. If we want to view the web pages in other specific languages, we must also modify the language in which we want to view them by default. To work with Chromium it is essential that we understand the Windows certificate system, since the https web pages display depends on our Windows certificates being up to date. While for Mozilla-based browsers it is not necessary, since they are integrated into the browser itself and it is not necessary to update them independently. To update the Windows XP certificates, download a package updated by the Japanese @blackwingcat on its Windows Legacy Update website: http://win2k.org/wlu/wluen.htm We go to the manual update section and look for certificates. Unzip the file with 7-Zip or WinRar and then install it. Note: The files on this website come in a format that I have not been able to use in Spanish XP, even discussing it with the author. They may work in other languages but if not don't worry, unzip with 7-zip and install. Below I indicate which are the best developments for Windows XP and its base code version in April 2022. 7. The uBlock Origin legacy "flex" bug reported and discussed at length here in this thread (with fix provided by @AstroSkipper - thanks ) has finally hit upstream, with the release of latest Pale Moon 31.3.0: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=28882 Thing is, I had already applied the workaround mentioned by @Tomaso more than two years ago: (I didn't like the "new" uBO default fonts (Inter and Metropolis woff2) after: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-firefox-legacy/commit/62d5ac43df6e713c3fbc8416653e9013ef6ce681 https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-firefox-legacy/commit/f26bd86406f29d0e0c550c1b85d820dbb4adb68c https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-firefox-legacy/commit/0753fa7518073eff29513f005e38d10e3a5f5299 https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-firefox-legacy/commit/930038cecbb6e8acf6484587bfe1a8bf0b2e3a59 , hence I followed what https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-firefox-legacy/commit/013b64a3e3733d72da09369ba0d63c684ac1a9df advised ; see also: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/1044 ) so I did not experience the "bug" even when I upgraded my Serpent 52 copy from the (2022-08-05) build to the (2022-08-24) one I'm currently running... Who would have thought of that ... BTW, Moonchild has now reverted upstream issue #1986 believed to have been the cause for that uBO-legacy "glitch": https://repo.palemoon.org/MoonchildProductions/UXP/commit/4bf2bf74b15772ca9c63188cd1d6c6fc046c0ed0 https://repo.palemoon.org/MoonchildProductions/UXP/commit/5f8d70dacd2efad6f16c706f5d5261181938cc74 https://repo.palemoon.org/MoonchildProductions/UXP/commit/95907ddf88c78b8431d50606714f48304c7c8a16

The reason I am asking this is, because I know you two very often read these types of topics, and immediately react to new posts once you see them on these topics. I also apologize if the question sounded a bit annoying.

  12. Use distractions if needed and learn to update DC Browser ... oops ... did I say that? Lol Kidding aside, of course, but learning new things is always a better way to cope when there is idle time to dwell on things. I know its hard to shift the focus when dragged down into the doldrums doldrums: NOUN (the doldrums) a state or period of inactivity, stagnation, or depression: Steady balance is the key. You can still go with the flow and against the grain. Be true and genuine and you can't lose - not to others - be true and genuine and kind to yourself.

  14. Oh well its just from the heart advice. Somewhere between also learn from my mistakes and I've been pretty open. Nothing worse than self sabotage and YOU deserve better than negative thoughts telling you otherwise, recognize negative intrusive thoughts and dismiss them as quickly as possible or you can easily give in and lose your strength. I've been down low (very low) and I've allowed myself to succumb to the disorder. suc·cumb VERB fail to resist pressure, temptation, or some other negative force: Drugs and booze may appear to be a "quick fix" but when they wear off (if you don't die from the deadly mixture) you're not right back to where you started but further backwards. Better to find constructive ways to deal with the ugly symptoms rather than self sabotage. Sure, easier said than done, but I'm no angel, but I've also never claimed to be anything other than such. I'm hoping people aren't seeing me as preaching so please post or tell me if its appears so. I hope not, I love everybody. Can you imagine a world with more love, I can.

  15. I think I know the reason: the setting you shared (dom.moduleScripts.enabled false) breaks uBlock Origin. It also crashes the browser eventually (I think it's because of uBO as well). Without that setting set to false, I can use uBlock Origin without any problems (But the version is 1.42.4, while it's 1.44.4 in my main PC's browser Firefox 105). Addition: Oh wait, it's because Mypal doesn't support auto-updating of extensions and I installed it before the update. If I reinstall it, then it should work fine too. Unfortunately, you are on the wrong way. It's more hardware related. As I already said, I will post about these problems very soon. @SC7601! I have to correct my statement. You are right! I have retested uBlock Origin 1.44.4 in Mypal 68 and can confirm your observation. Setting the variable dom.moduleScripts.enabled to false breaks the most recent version of uBlock Origin 1.44.4 in Mypal 68.12.5b. This setting was helpful in getting the new interface of VirusTotal to work in previous versions of Mypal 68. But in the latest version, Mypal 68.12.5b, it has no positive effect anymore and has become useless. Therefore, I recommend to set the variable dom.moduleScripts.enabled back to its default value of true. Kind regards, AstroSkipper

  17. After formatting as MBR on Windows 10 I have removed the disc from the box. First, I have connected it through a Logilink USB adapter that I bought in 2017 and that was working with an MBR 4 TB drive. Then the MBR disk is recognized by all Windows with a false capacity of 561 GB. A moment when I remembered that I have an older Logilink USB adapter, with different hardware, but with the same external appearance. Then the disk has been read by Windows XP successfully. I have tried to format it as both MBR and GPT with various programs, and it works perfectly on XP. Paragon GPT with modifications has worked. Then I put the formatted GPT disk with 5 partitions back into its original box, then Windows XP again recognizes the disk but doesn't mount it. Partition Wizard now says that the drive only has a 2 TB partition, which is false, plus a small front partition. So far these are the conclusions: -Seagate box does not work on Windows XP neither as GPT nor as MBR. - Logilink USB adapters with newer firmware work up to 2TB on MBR, with older firmware up to 4TB on MBR and GPT. -Older Logilink adapters currently have no limit. It is necessary to make a list of USB adapters that work with large drives MBR in Windows XP. why is a Logilink model limited to 4TB? Why doesn't Segate box mount disk as GPT in Windows XP?
