  1. First, I don't break it. If someone must take responsibility for this, then it should be Mozilla and Moonchild Productions, not me. Second, you should study whats the difference between gecko 38 and 52, and how many changes do Moonchild people changed that enhance speed and security, and changes that prevents running in old windows, and how much effort I put to restore functionality on old windows. If you failed to do this, then please leave this thread.

  3. Indeed ... And for that you deserve all the praise there is! Technically, even they can't be held responsible for issues on the XP platform, as they - since long ago - do not target that (so they can't test on XP) and do not care if their code, patched only to the extent it will allow it to run satisfactorily on XP/Vista (and this is only where Roy steps in) creates issues for XP/Vista users... @zipandlips: My dear Russian friend, you should stop sounding demanding, impolite, disrespectful; this attitude will not get you far, not only here, but probably in other places where you'd arrive to seek help ... I sense you are just overly frustrated and not meaning to insult people, still... In any case, read what I wrote previously in this (long) trhead: If you can reliably reproduce some of your issues with the official Pale Moon 28.1.0 build (perhaps on a borrowed Win7+ machine), then post about it (in mild language, please) in the official forum, else take what you're offered and be glad about it... This is a one-person effort, don't expect that wonders can be worked for an OS now 4.5 years EOL'd

  4. @roytam1 Thank you for the tremendous effort and time you put forth in providing me with a fast and secure browser to run on my XP machine. I just want you to know there are many like me who certainly appreciate all you do.

  6. @dencorso You were faster than me, but still it would be good to include this information in the first post of this topic. That could be updated by the "resident supermegaüberhyper-ultraparanoid" from time to time!

  7. Knock on wood! Yes: MU/WU still use TLS 1.0. So you've got to keep it enabled or to enable it just before searching for updates, which is more of a PITA. Don't you see these settings in "Internet Options"? If you don't you have to delete a couple of settings in the registry, as described in this post.

  8. From me today, Polish foxtrot from, as far as I could have found, 1929: Can't find the exact recording date though. This song seem to be quite popular in the circles that refer to ya old Warsaw culture, referring to the number of YT recordings that try to keep up with the traditional style. But I personally got to know it via the band that did quite, uh, modern version (psychobilly, for those who are zealous about tagging everything with precise subgenre ;)) https://bombatbelus.bandcamp.com/track/chod-napragie

  9. Now, if you need it in Italian, for instance, that's OK, because @heinoganda created the workaround in all languages. Do PM him.

  11. You do understand the pleonastic nature of "now", dont you? I have them on the list since 2001[1], JFYI. jaclaz [1] killing of Windows 2000 in favour of XP, if you ask, but they were tentatively put there around 1999 with the infamous Windows 2000 trial CD that silently killed the NTFS of not updated NT 4.00 and anyway killed its CHKDISK even on updated ones.

  13. So next I was attacking automatic Defrag that shows up in Event Log. It completes a boot optimization, even though I disabled Automatic optmization. I use "My Defrag" anyway for boot optimization, so I disabled the "Optimize Drives" services. That should do it :) Knocking off these little bug-a-boos one step at a time :)

  14. You're both right. So yes I removed the Custom Trigger. That allowed me to edit the properties of the Scheduled Start task. Then I removed the "One Time" event trigger. I saved the task, and then disabled it. Then I applied a Deny permission to the System Account on the file itself.

  15. Just wanted to report back... Since the 1479 experimental release, I have experienced 0 crashes and system seems to run smoothly...as if it is taking no impact on performance (AG extension loader=0.2MB/DWM=22MB) Thanks for the hard work bigmuscle and looking forward to the final release (Ha...final, that is the wrong word. It'll never be final because MS keeps jacking it up) ...but thanks for the continuing efforts towards the game of cat-and-mouse.

  16. Update for TLS (KB4019276) released! This update addresses an issue where it was not possible to disable TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 with FIPS mode enabled. http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4459091 http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/updt/2018/10/windowsxp-kb4459091-x86-embedded-enu_6f260244fafd69643591ded6624997eb2211b627.exe

  17. I do, but I announce them on Zeranoe's forum. I try to release a new build every 4 months or so. I'm using 3DYD's LAV Filters fork for WinXP. Maybe their code/changes can help you with that.

  18. If you're willing to wean yourself from the AdBlock type family of adblockers, uBllock Origin Legacy (XUL) is a splendid candidate for Pale (New) Moon and other browsers that don't support Webextensions; you must first get rid of any previous content blockers you've been using and then install latest version (1.16.4.5) from the GitHub repo: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/firefox-legacy-1.16.4.5 (click on the .xpi link) ; updates will be somewhat infrequent, because the dev's main focus has shifted onto its webextension counterpart; FWIW, to have your copy auto-update, you should install the companion extension uBlock Origin Updater uBlock0 is noticeably more gentle on resources (namely RAM consumption) compared to the ABP family of blockers, so it's recommended especially on older/lower-spec hardware... You don't specify, but if you're interested in an in-browser solution, I highly recommend the SaveFrom.net one, to which I have recently switched :https://en.savefrom.net/user.php?vid=308#youtube Do not install any .exe file from that page! Scroll all the way down to Installation; the Mozilla Firefox extension is of the webextension format, so won't install in New Moon (does so in Serpent 52.9.0/55.0.0); but if you have Greasemonkey for Pale Moon installed, you can proceed to install their userscript from https://download.sf-helper.com/chrome/helper.user.js (Just load in a new tab and follow the prompt). It is one of the few YT-DLers that would pick up the standalone 720p MP4 encode that youtube now hides on VEVO clips (and other protected music content) ... As for MPEG-DASH yt streams, it is able to fetch the raw video+audio streams, but you'll have to properly remux them to MP4/MKV container using FFmpeg... If your query is not specifically for an extension, then I highly recommend the CLI app youtube-dl (front-ends exist); again, for DASH streams you need to place ffmpeg.exe right besides youtube-dl.exe (or else specify its path in yt-dl's config file...) and the app will auto-mux the elementary streams for you...

  19. To install KB4457046 you need .NET Framework 4 Extended (dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe + Finnish language pack). Unfortunately, only .NET Framework 4 Client is offered at WU / MU, hence the current problem with KB4457046 that can only be installed if .NET Framework 4 Extended is installed.

  20. Java has been updated today October 16, 2018 to Version 8 Update 191. First, download the last known working XP installer (http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/jre-8u152-windows-i586.exe), then download the latest updated tar.gz file here https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html or my FTP http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/java/. Installer packages after Version 8 Update 152 do NOT work correctly on XP, so to manually update to the current version follow the instructions here: Or here:

  21. Thank you @TechnoRelic for your detailed response.......I suspected this was the procedure, however, the method @dencorso recommends is definitely the prudent way to proceed.
