@reboot12 Well, Win95 does lack API and features compared to 98(SE) or ME so it's understandable. Besides, in case of [very] new motherboards or add-on cards that need further patches it is possible that some code pieces may interfere with each-other. Most everything in this area of matching old OS versions with new hardware has always been more or less experimental. Personally I've never been happy with Win95 even back in its time, upgrading from Win3.1. Only 98SE - with further unofficial upgrades as time went by - could satisfy me to a substantial degree. But it's all about the software running on top of the OS. I'm not familiar with your MIDI application, or MIDI generally - the most I came close to it was a virtual keyboard emulator written [also] in AHK by someone else, which I modded a little (not in the DropBox pack, and it's Unicode only). Hope you find some good working configuration eventually.

@Drugwash Thanks for the quick answer but I have already given up using the 6200 card after I edited the file manually according to what I wrote LoneCrusader but it did nothing and the system still does not start https://msfn.org/board/topic/174096-nvidia-video-driver-shutdown-fix/page/6/#findComment-1104546 Probably in my case there is another problem with the 6200 card. After a few days of trial and errors I have enough Unfortunately, I failed to use the PCIe ATI X300 or Nvidia 6200 in Win95 - I tried on 4 different computers. The best configuration in which I managed to start Win95 and the system works stable - I use for MIDI production/editing in MAGIX music studio 3.0 deLuxe: Asus B85M-E Haswell 4 Gen CPU - need FIX95CPU by LoneCrusader 2 GB RAM + PATCHMEM.EXE by Loew (alternative 8 GB RAM but need also HIMEMX.EXE /max=2G) Intel iGPU + VBEMP 9x driver Sound Blaster Live! Unfortunately only one version of Win95 has been tested back then. It's been ten years since, I moved to Linux, Mr Loew regretfully passed - may he rest in peace - and apparently there has not been much interest in this patch since. I attached an experimental version of the ini file, but please be aware it has not been tested at all; code was just added blindly from other sections, and it may or may not work at all, or could even lead to boot errors. Please read the documentation carefully to learn how to recover from such errors by unpatching or restoring the backup file. File was compressed under Linux, hopefully it can be unpacked in Win95 - otherwise please try to do it in a later OS. Also please make sure you're using the latest available version (1.5.2.2) of the patcher as earlier versions may use a different, uncompatible ini format. It can be found at first link in my signature if other links don't work. Please note it is a large archive file (~125MB)., look in the ShutdownPatch subfolder. Hopefully this helps. Unfortunately I have lost touch with Windows generally for a few years already so it's doubtful I could be of more help in this matter. ShutdownPatcher.ini_1.5.2.3_test.zip

Do this patch works on Win95? The program detects the system version but does not patch because in the .ini file there are no entries for Win95 - entries (8x) are only for Win98SE: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1377051#p1377051

My Browser Builds (Part 5)
NotHereToPlayGames replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Okay, then "might" not be a cert issue. Move on to the next domino - what css/js is your Supermium capable of that your Serpent is not capable of. Good Luck! Me Thinks that you're just going to turn yourself into a dog with a flea on the tip of its tail, running in a circle trying to bite at that flea. All I can really tell you on this end is that I do *not* get the slide mouse screen in my OLDER version of Serpent. But I also run that OLDER version of Serpent (daily! 24/7!) from within Win10 and not XP. - Yesterday

It's crazy there's probably 50 to 100 of these where the expiration date is in the 2040's... probabably 200 or 300+ in the 2030's ... i just dont know. I looked at least at that stupid slide your mouse screen and the "page properties --> certificate" window saying Digicert High Assurance or something... i tried exporting that certficate from the page... then put it it in Serpent, but it wouldnt work on any of the sections i also just very carefully spent an hour looking at the start/end dates of every single "digi cert" related thing in serpent, vs every one in that windows manager tool, and they all already were the same, i didnt find 1 single one that was older or mis-matched from either.... i also then tried the "cert updater" program from this thread so now there's more than 500 in both those columns now instead of 450. - but still always getting that horrible "slide mouse" screen. https://msfn.org/board/topic/183352-proxhttpsproxy-and-httpsproxy-in-windows-xp-for-future-use/#comment-1213600 -
Hello! My problem is a little bit different. Is there a chance to take a look at this? This is a project about bringing back "Games Explorer" feature from Windows 7 to the Windows 10 & 11. The problem is really easy to fix I think but I don't know anything about it. I attached the problem If you don't want to go. Is there a thing that we can do manually? Thank you for all of your work..

Change system theme to dark, why not. You can change it separately from apps theme -
Yes, same, until I use the address bar

I have 5 Windows computers with 2 being in my home office. In November 2024 I built a new office computer (CompA - dual boot Win10/Win11). The computer it replaced is now my "second" computer (CompB). The one it replaced (CompC) is dismantled and the parts recycled. My Microsoft account is not adding my newest computer (CompA) to the list of devices. While trying find out why I discovered a licensing error might be the cause. I have paid for the "10 device" ESU program and need this new computer to be included. Only 4 of my 5 computers are currently being recognized. My licensing ERROR I used the (non OEM) Win10 Pro license key previously used on CompC for the new system (A). But I MADE A MISTAKE and it seems I entered the Windows activation key from one of my other 3 PCs that are elsewhere in my home (oops). Windows accepted it (8 months ago) and I only noticed yesterday (in Activation) that "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account", while at the bottom of the screen appears "The last product key (ID: .....) you entered can't be used on this copy of Windows (0x803FA67)". But the system activated ... why?? I then chose to "Change product key" and entered the Win10pro Key from the discarded PC (which is unique and not used on any other system) and it was accepted. The "The last product key ... can't be used" message no longer appears. What concerns me is that when I run Belarc Advisor to report the current Win10 key in the Registry it reports the same key as what was there before and is a key used on one of my other three systems. (I re-ran Belarc on that computer to conform). Does anyone have any explanation of what's going on here??? Should I use slmgr /upk (deactivate) and slmgr /cpky (remove the product key from the registry) to deactivate the system and reactivate using the appropriate key? I'm reluctant to do that as "if it ain't broke" ... yet I need my main computer to be included on the devices support by the ESU program. Thanks for any advice. R

My Windows XP OS Addons and Update Pack (2023)
Zorba the Geek replied to Zorba the Geek's topic in Application Add-Ons
Thanks for this clever tip that I have never read anywhere else. I tried it and it works! Here is my solution using the integrator. I have discovered that setup reads the paths in the DestinationDirs section of the installation INFs of Windows components and registers these folders somewhere as protected. It is not possible to remove these INFs from the source because they are signed by nt5inf.cat, and their absence would cause setup to be aborted half way through. My solution is to over-write these INFs with a dummy INF that contains a few lines in the Version section like this example [Version] Signature= "$Windows NT$" LayoutFile=layout.inf [DefaultInstall] and delete the INF late in the setup. I have tried this with Speech Support, Movie Maker, and internet Connection Wizard and it seems to work. Here is the latest addon that incorporates this technique. NotHereToPlayGames replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
You should only need to SORT them by EXPIRATION DATE and isolate which have been updated most recently. HOWEVER, this is NOT a guarantee that you will end up getting paypal to work in non-chrome. IT IS ONLY THE *FIRST* HURDLE and there could be a DOZEN hurdles in front of you. It doesn't even mean that you will find a cert! Again, there are going to be a DOZEN hurdles, certficates should always be the FIRST (in my opinion) to clear. Nowadays, CSS is next. Then JS. And DON'T EVEN BOTHER changing your user agent! The sooner you break that "old school" thinking, the better. (again, just my opinion) -
So it worked initially?, what was it set to? DXVA2(native) or none ? LAV settings can also be accessed from the start menu, K-Lite Codec Pack\Configuration There will likely be 2 one for mpchc and one system-wide, set both to whatever worked, if settings crash, redo k-lite codec pack setup and configure those options during setup Test dreamscene Some applications may not respect LAV configuration settings, in that situation you will usually have to remove DXVA2-related dlls installed by the graphics driver so they will have no chance to use something broken, I'd done this once with AMD drivers The fact that symptoms are the same between AMD and NVIDIA gpus however makes me think that you have a conflicting other application/driver installed as these are all old vista-supported gpus not something that needs custom drivers EDIT: And did you uninstall AMD drivers with DDU before installing nvidia? (latest for vista - DDU v18.0.4.6.exe)

I've just upgraded from Win10 and Win100 and I found SetAllBack - a genius app! There's one thing I don't know how to do: I'd like to set my taskbar black (which I can), but the problem is that the system icons on the right (Audio, Battery, the ^ caret you click to see more icons, etc) are in black, too, so they're no longer visible on a black taskbar. Can I change their colors to white WITHOUT changing the whole Win theme? If it's not currently possible in SetAllBack, I'd like to submit this is a feature request. Current, I set the taskbar mid-gray to still see the system icons.

sorry it's not cause i hate it, i just was only concerned about getting bsod's with chrome(s) again like in the past.. i didnt know if it would happen again or not. but let me try one more time... i found this certificate manager mmc snap-in thing.. but when i right click on any of the columns, there's only just "import" ..no export except a .txt file, but that doesnt seem to be any good cause it just only lists the names of each one. it seems like i can only export 1 single one at a time when manually clicking on these, on the right...but not "everything all at once" ...how would i even find which one is the correct file that the serpmium did earlier ?? - im not willing to spend 10... 15 hours trying to do these all 1 at a time - well it'd take longer than that especially testing every single one individually in serpent browser hundreds of times for days... there's 460 of these in this one... then another 450 in the "third party root" section -

Well... Um... When I was a know-it-all college kid, I was a "death to IE, Firefox ONLY" punk! My bias to use Firefox and NOTHING ELSE ended up nearly getting my fired! FIREFOX let a virus in and three production facilities were shut down completely for several hours. All because I would never touch anything but Firefox. My answer to you, and you're not going to like it, is that you just may have to learn to know when to use CHROME and when you can stick with your already-stated bias against anything Chrome. -

Hmm i see... umm where would i find this specific certificate(s) at ? Since clicking the import button on the tabs in serpent ask for "certificate file" or "PKCS12 file" - umm i dont have a clue where that would be located. or what the name of this file is even called Im sorry for my newbie-ness here. -

Yes! Because Supermium uses the OPERATING SYSTEM'S "certificate store" and the firewall flagged that the "cert store" was being updated. Now that the OS's cert store is getting your paypal working, you could try importing the OS certs into the non-chrome browsers. - Last week

kuja killer replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hey there i decided to just give this supermium a try for a minute even though i swore to myself i'd never touch anything chrome related again after my bad experiences from many years ago... first of all.. i did not get a BSOD when closing the program luckily (which happened about 50/50 every time on the original chrome ages ago (not a fork)... so i hope this will be okay, first time trying the supermium today. so i went to paypal first thing... and something strange did happen... the second i clicked on the "login" link at the top of page...and the email/pass screen appearing - i got a popup from Windows Firewall about "win32" or something...which i assume was the supermium ...so i clicked unblock -- i didn't seem to get any "hcaptcha" or "please wait for security challenge" and no "slide your mouse" screen either... so your right it actually did work to my surprise. Still doesnt at all on anything else like Serpent here, the mypal, or the palemoon (the stupid slide mouse, your blocked -- on all of them) - but wow it worked for now at least in the superium... i also checked the Windows Firewall stuff right after and found an entry from superium "chrome.exe" - so i assume thats what that popup was about....is that somehow related to this whole paypal issue not working in all the other's ?
