HOTFIXES: Win2000 SP4, WinXP SP2, WinXP SP3 and Win2003 SP2

if you are installing IE7 through RunOnceEx, reboot is required for the hotfixes.

I guess if installed through svcpack, system reboots to come to RunOnceEx, so the hotfixes can be installed using RunOnceEx.

Hey there ... thanks for all the work on the list, i've been using it extensively for the last few hours trying to get my unattended CD up-to-date, and now i've got some questions ...

1) KB890859: how critical is this ... i've left it off my test CD and Windows Update doesn't complain. It's also not listed in RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack which was last updated June 2007. But it IS in the last AutopatcherXP. What's the best way of determining if this has or has not been replaced by a newer update?

2) as well as kb890859 above, this is the list of updates i left off the CD and which Windows Update doesn't complain about being missing:

3) I'm also using the last ever official release of AutoPatcher XP (August 2007) as a guide and i was wondering why the big differences between the 3 lists i'm using that i've mentioned (ie this one, RyanVM's, and Autopatcher). I want to know which list to best rely on!

4) kb891122: should have been listed as a 'removed' hotfix when wmp11 was added. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

5) i'll probably have more questions soon!

I also sometimes resort to extracting updates and comparing files. There are also many updates not listed on any of these lists which, IMO, are important. I found a list of some of these a long time ago (can't remember where now). But I have verified through file version comparison, that many are still valid today. Most of these fix specific issues where a combination of things must conspire to trigger an issue. In the end, it is your computer, so do your home work!

KB939673 is for IIS. If you have XP Home, that would be why it's not showing up for you. Also, I never noticed KB891122 on the list. It will be removed.

While I was typing this post, I realized I forgot another IIS update for XP. The list will be updated immediately.

Thanks for the replies. I've just confirmed that using another method, i've got WU to report that i need the updates i previously reported i didn't. I did this is by leaving off every update from the slipstream except IE7 and WMP11 and checking in with WU. All the updates that you said should be there, were there. Curious, very curious.

The tot Number of the updates in the list is very important to me to be sure that i have all the updates

i feel that i have something wrong when the list total number not the same number i have

1) Which Hotifx?

3) The Support ID would be a number associated with a Support account that you have already established with Microsoft. There is no generic Support ID that someone could share with you.

Please be careful when installing KB936357 V2 for XP SP2. The original KB936357 patch for XP SP2 caused XP machines to be UNBOOTABLE, crashing with a BSOD at startup with certain CPUs. Not sure if KB936357 V2 is reliable enough now that MS article 936357 acknowledges that the patch is NOT supported on machines with Intel Family 5 (perhaps pentium 3) and older CPUs.

I'm not letting ANY of my XP and Vista computers touch KB936357, following the advice of a certain Windows critic to avoid KB936357. period! nuff said.

If the hotfix isn't available by email, then try by phone. I go with the email contact first by using the MS Hotfix Request Form.

According to Wikipedia, "Family 5" Intel microprocesors are Pentium I and Pentium MMX (up to 300 MHz). By the way, I've installed KB936357 on tens of machines (both Intels and AMDs, all the way down to 600 MHz) without problems.
