slimzky Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 used to love Opera.............. but along came Firefox and changed it all .....
its a great love story are you guys gonna get married?
Jeremy Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Firefox v1.5 and Opera v8.0 are both goinig to excellent browsers. That's something far from anything IE will ever be.
hucktunes Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Opera 8 is the best browser ever. The only browser I'll use.
Jeremy Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 It is a very good browser, no question. However, the "best" is debatable, hence this whole thread. But, what counts is that you're happy with it. My girlfriend uses Opera.
Smiley Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Avant, check it out http://www.avantbrowser.com/
clavicle Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Avant Browser is my second choice after Opera. I have been using it for more than a year and it really does a great job. Frankly it defeats IE squarely though it use IE core. But the add on features os avant are great. It really comes in hand to save compressed web pages in mht format (IE can also do so). Saving pages in opera is clumsy, if you save a page without making a folder first, the folder where you save it is littered with files. I thin opera people should work about it. Choice of saving in pdf in opera is there but the bookmarks/hyperlinks are killed.
keithy397 Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 In order of preference Firefox - say no more! Moz Suite Navigator K-Meleon Slim Browser Avant Opera IMO Firefox currently is just superb. I have it set up with multiple profiles for whatever I need to do, eg I use a bare bones profile to test new extensions to check for compatabilities etc. Moz Navigator is not as flexible as Firefox but a great browser nonetheless. For updating windows and accessing IE only sites I use Slim Browser. It is an IE based browser but with oodles more security features and tabbed browsing. I never use IE.
Nanaki Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 How can you prefer MSIE-powered browser above Opera? I'm also a Firefox fan but I still have good sense. =p Death to Trident!
Sunil Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 IE all the way, FireFox is too Bloated...Opera, tried it, dont like it. I have used IE since the good ole days of windows 98 (my first pc). Since then i have seen all, been through all and i am still loyal, because non can touch what ie has been through and survived. Firefox and Opera i agree may be more secure, but think about this, what if the places where reversed ie was the new kid on the block and Firefox, Opera were the titans to be dealth with, what would be the outcome??!! This is simply my view, because i have tried almost every piece of browsing software, on most of the OS's available and IE is by far the better browser. Some say its slow, well all i can say is that it gets me there in once piece. Some say its buggy, well i have accepted those flaws. if you look at it from the system point of view, It has been the arguement that because it is tied into the system it can cause system crashes etc... well, i just keep it patched and it works fine. I have never personally experienced any sort of system crash. It uses less memory, as some have said. Once again these are only my views on this topic, i meant it in no way to be offensive.. Sunil
Jeremy Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Nanaki, I take offense to the "good sense" remark you made. Firefox is a great browser. It has its flaws and that why we have version updates. Now, Sunil, your comments really p*** me off. Firefox bloated??? ROTFLMAO IE is bloated. Where was that screenshot I found on these forums that showed 80% of the IE window consumed by useless spyware toolbars and 114000+ had been detected? Take that and compare it to Firefox with the toolbars customized to have only menu names and address bar. One colum compared to what... 25 of various column widths? And yes, I know this is only interface-related. Firefox is not bloated. You can have as many or as little plugins and you want and the configurations are very straight forward. And the whole "role reversal" comment, as far as that goes, under those cimcumstances, people would be saying "Hail IE" instead of "Hail Firefox or Opera". Simple as that. It's best not to think about it, though, it's too weird. And the whole thing about it being tied into the system, well I use nLite and remove Internet Explorer and it hasn't affected my computing abilities at all. There will be some people who use the excuse of system-integration to backup their preference for IE. Then you have people like me who go the next step and actually find out... IE sucks baby. I feel very sorry for anyone who uses IE. The POS hasn't had an update in what... 4 years?
un4given1 Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I'm sorry.. when I want to surf I don't want to wait the extra 5 seconds it takes for Firefox to load. IE is instant.
Jeremy Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Mmmhmm, rather have something instant than have it far more secure... typical. The memory for IE is loaded at Windows start-up. If anyone isn't too lazy to read for a minute, check this out. http://news.com.com/Reversal+Next+IE+divor...263.html?tag=nl 5 seconds... wow... such valuable time... holy s***... It's more like 3 seconds on my system. I wonder what I could do in those 2 seconds. Crack my knuckles maybe? The time duration excuse is simply disgusting. Heh, I talked to puntomx on Trillian a few days ago and he told me to check for spyware. I told him I don't use IE and use nLite and erase my cache, temp, index.dats, cookies, etc with East-Tec Eraser and don't use Java and very little JavaScript. I told him because of all this, I don't have any spyware. He told me I did. I did the deepest search with the program and came up with 0 results. So anyway, if a whole 5 seconds is that important to you when it comes to being secure, you deserve to be infected with Spyware.
un4given1 Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I don't have any spyware and I use IE. Yes, that extra couple seconds is important to me... I like my computer to be rocket fast, and having to wait for even a couple seconds is just frustrating. If I had to wait that long for a site to come up I would click another instead. I'm not on dialup, I'm on 4Mb cable and a T1. I administer 20 PCs at our office and have yet to get spyware on any of them either. Stay off the porn sites and you will find you will get almost no spyware EVER.
Jeremy Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Well, aren't you special. Big ego rising. Was that an assumption being made about me even though I stated I don't use a non-secure browser? Hahaha. Anyway, I'm done in this thread. People keep saying whether or not they like this or that browser. It's up to the individual. I have my preference, I don't give a s*** what anyone else picks, unless they choose it for reasons that can't be justifiable.
