When Supermium had false positives, they cleared it up pretty quickly.

People keep giving Supermium a "free pass" but flog Thorium every chance they get.

Despite Supermium clearly being reported as having a trojan!

I don't keep a running log, per se.

I run each and every new release for about FOUR MINUTES and fully delete after those FOUR MINUTES.

For me, it's because I compare directly to OFFICIAL UNGOOGLED and Thorium still makes some GOOGLE connections.

Supermium CRASHES my system within NINETY SECONDS so from a stability standpoint alone, Thorium kicks Supermium's "arse".

And from what I am seeing in the last 24hrs, BOTH are being flagged for "suspicious security vulnerabilities".

I suppose it is the stability standpoint that has the Thorium thread so active here at MSFN but "nothing" on the Supermium thread - because it's too UNSTABLE for ANYBODY to actually USE.

Thanks, but no one here uses installers, esp. the user named @NotHereToPlayGames. I too can give a rats arse to those installers.

Four minutes is nothing! If we are to assume what they claim about "collecting, harvesting user data" is true.

You need to accumulate some valuable info in your profile. Bank credentials (use fake ones).

EDIT: Most of those hits are from uninstall.exe. Just one (probably false) positive when uninstall.exe is deleted from /supermium folder. 

Zipped up just the Supermium folder without the installer (setup.exe):

I'll leave it here, compare and contrast sort of thing.

 

P.S. Tried to check if a separate .zipped binaries download was available, but no luck -- page is down [panicking emoji]

Fingers crossed that Thorium's GitHub at least stays up until I can download the latest.  (edit: not even going to attempt to download here at work, lol, lest my PC be flagged on three continents' IT Depts)

Trojan or not, I'd prefer to have them archived on my end.  I can inoculate on my end ("maybe").

As always, very grateful Astro for your help. Sorry for the delay but I've been having some problems. Thorium gets very heavy here and again I'm having problems with explorer.exe. Something similar to what happened with Supermium. I think there's something wrong. As if the jump back is so big that something's not quite compatible and trying to force it to work ends up bringing conflicts. True, I use a trimmed down version of XP and many programs to customize the view but I can't find the exact problem. The only thing I know is before using Supermium and Thorium I didn't have these strange bugs.

When I close Thorium and spend time on the machine doing other things, explorer.exe hangs and I end up having to force reset 'cause the whole desktop and windows stop responding. After reboot, something seems to be broken on my system, corrupt files, etc.

I'm going to go back with an image that I know works fine and try again with Thorium. Can I assume since I was using the portable version I can save the folder 'as is' to preserve the config? I also find it hard to believe the folder weighs so much, even after deleting the cache and temp files.

You have to back up the Thorium folder and its registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Thorium for a later re-install. Otherwise you will lose the settings for which extensions have been installed.
