Absolutely! It seems they smell even better when you give them to someone, rather than just keeping them for yourself. :buehehe:
In all seriousness, it is always good to see comprehensive and well-written threads...I haven't tried my hand at my own thread in a while. If I find anything interesting to discuss, I will certainly share it!

Thank you very much for the kind words! :)

Thanks for this find! I will check it when more time is available. However, it is a very specialized program whose function should normally be covered by an antimalware program with background guard. :dubbio:

You're welcome !

I guess not everyone wants to run real-time scanners or any real AV, and this simple tool will prevent their PC from infecting off these autorun viruses.

I have installed Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 on my Windows XP computer and use its real-time protection. There is a three-layer protection: Web protection and Exploit protection are permanently activated, Malware protection only if I surf unknown or a bit dirty websites. So my real-time protection is a bit on-demand due to my underperforming computer. :)

Congratulations on opening the thread, now we can make a nice list in the header.
Perhaps the disadvantage is that in search engines users will look for the word antivirus, not the word malware, although I don't see a very much problem.
Here are a few programs to add to the alphabetical list. I order them like I have these on my computer, rate these however you like.

Unfortunately now, in 2023, I am looking for a new antivirus.
I'll test if any from the past are currently working and comment.

You're welcome! The list with working security programs is most important and will be maintained by me as regularly as possible. I also count on members who notice that a program has been updated or abandoned.

When I created this thread, I already added the tag "Antivirus" and others, so the search function should be able to find my thread. Therefore, it shouldn't actually be a problem.

Thank you very much! Most of your listed programs are already on my internal list, though. But, any help is welcome! Thanks again! Much appreciated! :thumbup

The links will probably change from time to time when an update or upgrade is due. I extracted the link to the offline installer from the online installer. :P

For many years, with the soviet help (of course), ex-DDR communists had been developing a top notch, nasty, modern PC virus, imagine such scenario, now they've breached your fortress-house, carrying an infected USB flash drive, unfortunately you (your family) went to visit the Bavarian friends on a holiday and missed the daily AV update definitions, so the only thing that will save the  World your PC - that simple, yet powerful tool, which blocks the autorun Virus without the updates and/or user interactions !

How To Turn Off Autorun

In the last 15 years, my Windows 2000/XP PCs have not been infected by any viruses. I always have real-time protection disabled. I have downloaded hundreds of thousands of programs from thousands of web pages.

Only to understand how these highly sophisticated soviet/ex-DDR communist agents operate:

1) they wait until you go visit your Bavarian friends
2) they break into your house (not necessarily a fortress house)
3) they rely on autorun to infect your PC
4) when (if) you wisely disabled autorun they go away muttering the equivalent (in Russian or German) of "D@mn, we can't do anything, autorun is disabled".

Do you know if eSacan, Panda Dome and WiseVector have loose downloadable virus definitions files like Avast and AVG?

Panda Dome is cloud-based,

21 hours ago, AstroSkipper said:

It also doesn’t need regular updating of virus definitions as it automatically updates the virus definitions in the cloud (remote server) and scans files using those latest virus definitions. The user should have a good speed Internet connection to fully utilize this new cloud based antivirus otherwise it won’t work. No problem if the user is offline, it’ll still protect the system from virus attack as it stores the virus definitions in local cache as well.

so there are no downloadable definition updates.

WiseVector StopX has been abandoned, so you can't get any new definition updates. It is AI-based and only partly based on local definition updates. Furthermore, such downloadable definition updates were never offered anyway.

For MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit, have a look here:

And here is the direct download link to the definition updates: http://www.microworldsystems.com/akdlm/download/tools/esupdatebd.exe

Since you are not using any real-time protection, my first recommendation for you would be Malwarebytes Free. It runs great, uses few system resources and has a very good detection rate. But you should uninstall avast! completely and clean your system from all leftovers. Malwarebytes and avast! might not get along. Of course, if you own a premium licence, you would have an optional three-layer real-time protection which can be switched on and off at any time. All about Malwarebytes here:
