I have also tested the latest Opera version 114.0.5282.185 (as of Nov. 12th) and it's still a no-go !

If anybody else wants to look into why it doesn't work anymore, please share any knowledge you can find.

I'm also sharing a method on how to obtain DWrite.dll from W10 TP Build 9926 without having to download the whole OS if it can help anyone.

As a matter of fact Build 9926 received a few Windows Updates, one of them containing a slightly updated DWrite.dll (10.0.9926.6)

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/windows-10-technical-preview-update-rollup-february-4-2015-c6e538c6-01ca-b3c9-41f2-c959ae900473

You can download that update from here : https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB3036140

Extract .msu to .cab then extract & expand .cab or use a tool like KB_Extractor

Inside the folder "amd64_microsoft-windows-directwrite_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.9926.6_none_ad78ee61b6b96033" you will then find DWrite.dll (x64)

Inside the folder "x86_microsoft-windows-directwrite_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.9926.6_none_515a52ddfe5beefd" you will then find DWrite.dll (x86)

The latest Firefox Nightly 134 doesn't work on W8.1 either. Changing the OS Requirement from "000A" to "0006" in Firefox.exe is not enough anymore.

Firefox Nightly is still detecting that the OS is not Win10 (or higher).

What do you mean? W7/8/8.1 is still supported with Firefox ESR 115 until at least March 2025.

ESR 128 also still works with the mod (at least on 8.1). Only the latest nightly builds do not work anymore.

I have not used App Verifier before, I'll give it a try.

Who needs old engines?

Which means the support is dropped. I don't count "security" fixes because they don't bring anything new, just fixing the old bugs,

Basically, you only require to change the HighVersionLie.

I tried patching firefox nightly build, but I'm missing something and I don't have enough experience to debug this any further unfortunately, but it seems to attempt to launch.

Currently

CatsXP is fully supported. on W7+ (full feature updates, not only fixes)

Also the Palemoon browser is supported to W7+ (older Firefox engine but maintained on W7+)

Waterfox supports Windows 7 with Intel Core 2 or AMD FX.  It is a 64-bit only web browser: (Firefox based)

Firefox 115 ESR (only fixes)

Hopping come fix for newest Firefox also.

But there are currently at least 4 browsers still supported in some way on W7+.

Firefox 115 ESR (only fixes)

CatsXP Browser (Chromium engine) (full updates)

Pale Moon (Old but maintained Firefox engine) (full feature updates, i think?)

Waterfox W7+ with Intel Core 2 or AMD FX.  It is a 64-bit only web browser: (Firefox based)

In my opinion CatsXP is the best choice now.

And are there also still another Chromium based browsers that still support W7+ or W8.1+??

I preffer Chromium, better and more extensions. Better support.

@mshultz

Thanks you i add  it in my post. But is Waterfox full supported or bug/security fixes only?

For Chromium-based browser, Supermium still works right now. It is compatible with Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 7 and 8.x

There is also Thorium, but the last build is from June 2024. It is compatible with Windows XP/Vista & 7/8/8.1 but it will not receive any more updates.

The latest releases are W10+ only and can be found HERE !

Supermium, Chromium 126 kernel??? now we are on 131 kernel.

Chrome 109 works also, the question is what Chromium based browsers are updated on W7+
