I didn‘t mean to offend anyone/anything . My bad I guess? Sorry.

Nothing to be sorry about, I meant just better to post in a separate topic to avoid questions like this one, which people will ask anyways.

Of course it needs to be patched, you'll have to patch Opera.dll with CFF explorer and switch off the sandbox with the cmd flag —no-sandbox, this will make the browser insecure, but it will load pages.

I guess it's fine, but only if you visit sites you 100% trust.

Thank you for the response. I already changes DisableVirtualAlloc and running with --no-sandbox flag but it doesn't work. Doesn't even start.

Any other ideas ?

You need to replace DiscardVirtualMemory with VirtualAlloc or VirtualAllocEx....

Yeah, I swapped DiscardVirtualMemroy with VirtualAlloc but it crashes as soon as it's started.

In addition, you need DWrite.dll ported from Windows 10.

Good point, but it then will involve adding missing stub DLLs. no? I didn't try myself on Win 8, but I kind of gussed it will not be finished with just replacing virtualalloc.

In Windows 8.1, the missing imports in DWrite.dll can be replaced with kernel32.dll

Wouldn't exactly classify as "Software for Windows 8.1" more like "Modded Software for Windows 8.1".

The fonts look smudged, is it the usaul case with 8/8.1, the same ugly/blurry fonts, like in Windows 7?

Can anyone check which version of Cool Reader 3 works on Windows Vista/7/8.1?

I tried running it on my Windows 8.1, but it only crashed.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/crengine/

The latest version of Cool Reader 3 works fine on all Windows OSes you mentioned. I don't get any crashes.
