Do you think this filter list is worth to be added to the default lists of uBlock Origin?

Thanks for asking about my opinion :P but, to put it honestly, I don't consider myself a uBO expert :blushing: ; in the past I had tried (hard) to follow the kind advice/hints of MSFN's uBO guru, @Sampei.Nihira, when he was still using these browsers in his XP box (now, I understand, no longer ON); plus, things I picked over time from GitHub issue trackers related to adblockers...

It was via those avenues I was introduced to this excellent portal:

https://filterlists.com/

a veritable treasure trove of content-blocking, open-source, subscriptions :thumbup ...

Being on under-resourced H/W and on a 32-bit OS, I had tried to slim-down (somewhat) my uBO installation (to reduce RAM consumption by the browser) and it was then when I spotted the "Optimized" renditions of the stock EasyList+EasyPrivacy FLs:

EasyList (Optimized)
https://filters.adtidy.org/extension/ublock/filters/101_optimized.txt

EasyPrivacy (Optimized)
https://filters.adtidy.org/extension/ublock/filters/118_optimized.txt

I test-installed them in lieu of the default ones, tried them over an extended period of time and found them to be equally efficacious, so I'm stuck with them ever since :) ...

are there others you would recommend to add to the default ones? :dubbio:

I still have:

https://hostfiles.frogeye.fr/#whats-a-first-party-tracker

installed in uBO-legacy (recommended at the time by Sampei), which is still being maintained/updated; supposedly this isn't needed anymore in the current WE version of uBO, but can't say with any degree of certainty whether this is so in the case of uBO-legacy :dubbio:...

Until recently, I also kept installed some flavours of ZeroDot1's CoinBlockerLists, but these aren't being updated regularly anymore...

So, basically, that's it ;) ; IOW, the real experts must come forth!

Thanks for sharing your settings! :) Due to compatibility reasons, I removed the self-update function of the internal list of the default filter lists which are directly available after installation of uBlock Origin. This internal list is no longer maintained or updated by the developers and is unfortunately obsolete. Thus, I maintain this internal list in my releases by myself from now on. I know the source https://filterlists.com/ very well and installed a few filter lists from there in the past. So if there are still maintained filter lists that are particularly valuable or effective, I will add them to the default ones. Abandoned or not working illter lists will be removed if I am aware of. Both lists, EasyList (Optimized) and EasyPrivacy (Optimized), will be added in my coming release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 due to your positive experiences with them. Thanks again for your opinion! spanachee.gif

The site appears to have many filter lists described; however, finding and search for the lists is not very comfortable.  It would be nice if there were a search or way to find lists given criteria.

...The "magnifying glass" icons in the column headers open popups that can be used to locate specific filterlists (via their name/description); the "funnel" button on the "software" column can be used to filter based on adblocker used; filtering for "Easylist" and (software) "uBlock Origin" gives me the "Easylist (Optimized)" FL (that I mentioned previously) as the third entry in the second results page:

Thank you for that information.  I did not expect those icons to be more than labels or decorative parts.  I also did not associate the magnifying glass icons as Search or what you indicate as a funnel icon as a funnel icon or with filtering.

The revelation makes the site much more usable.

Hi AstroSkipper,

Just came across this 'add-on extension' by you a few hours ago. Downloaded and added (installed) the extension. I have the green and white button showing in the New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 browsers. Everything works fine with no VPN on or connected. The correct IP is shown.

However, when I start my VPN then I get no information ... just this message:

Unable to Retrieve IP Information. Please try again in a few moments.

I have the program set to check every 5 seconds and a 'check-mark' to alert me when the IP changes.

It's really a nice ext to add to the browser. As I said it works with no VPN connected and being that I didn't read where anyone else reported this happening with their VPN connected ... it's not a big deal to me. I keep an eye on the VPN icon in the taskbar and if it does disconnect ... the icon color will change.

It's still a nice addition to the browser and is still useful to me.

Thanks ... Monroe

Hello @Monroe! Which extension do you mean? My fork Check My IP Address & Location 1.3? This extension works perfectly for me even when connected via VPN. This was also tested by @VistaLover. So, there must be something wrong in your settings. Please, check what's going in your system! :dubbio: Try also another VPN service!

AS ... yes I intended to put

AS ... yes, I forgot to put "Check My IP Address & Location 1.3" at the very top of my post reply.

After I read your reply it came into my head that my VPN has a free Ad ware and Malware blocking program. There are about ten items that can be 'checked / unchecked' as needed or wanted.

I unchecked the three items that I had checked and the program now works. I found the filter that was stopping the program from working and will leave that filter off ... it is labeled 'Ads + Trackers' and now everything is good. I had forgot about these free filters that my VPN provides. Been with them for over three years and I hadn't had any filter problems to my knowledge before.

I don't need that one filter checked anyway and maybe anyone in the future with a problem can think of possible VPN filters to check.

thanks for thr reply and help ... great program.

Monroe

wording change: 'your program did work' to 'the program now works'.

Please, don't forget that Check My IP Address & Location is not "my programme", but my fork of a good old extension that was unfortunately abandoned and brought back to life by me! I have changed and modified some of the code, and enhanced its functionality. But thanks for your kind feedback! :)

If you want to check the performance of UBO Legacy it may be a good idea to check the blocks obtained against UBO on a website with many trackers:

https://whotracks.me/

I believe that it will not be easy to achieve a reliable result.

Absolutely not reliable since they suspiciously omitted one of the most notorious trackers - Yandex.

Just a few examples.

Yandex static /trackers/ API:

yastatic.net

yandex.st

yandex.net

yabs.yandex.ru

yabs.yandex.com

an.yandex.ru

bs.yandex.ru

http-check-headers.yandex.ru

uptime-info.yandex.ru

mc.yandex.ru

yandex.direct

share.yandex.ru

Not suitable to check any Adblock since there's also zero mentions of Yahoo, I just noticed that, it's simply a total failure.

How come they didn't include it in "the most common trackers" section?

Yes, I understood that when I read everything earlier. Poor choice of words ... should have said "the program now works."

Still glad you 'brought it back to life' with some useful changes.
