NotHereToPlayGames Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 I have been using 360 since mid to late 2020 and I have been very impressed with it. There are some guides in other threads on how to fully convert to English and also how to prevent telemetry. Very small learning curve but well worth it for those of us on XP. There's even some Vista and Win7 users that use 360 but I don't think they have the same vested interest as those of us on XP.
Cixert Posted June 12, 2021 Author Posted June 12, 2021 (edited) Update post, Maxthon 6 is not Windows XP compatible. -Maxthon (Blink + Trident + Webkit) (Chromium 69) Official version:* https://www.maxthon.com/ * Version 6.x is not compatible with Windows XP. * Version 5.x is the last one compatible with Windows XP. I tried the 84mb version of MiniBrowser, but it crashes trying to view some pages and closes when I connect any usb device. 360 works fine, but it's interface is in Chinese/Russian. You can try Borealis Navigator, the official version does not exist yet. But Roytam1 has a fork available.
Nokiamies Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Seems MSFN is back online so can finally post this here. Since nobody seems not to have mentioned it yet, latest version of Netsurf browser for Windows runs on XP. Netsurf is minimal web browser using custom render engine. It is proof that "modern" web browser does not need have lot of bloated code and does not need hog all ram like Firefox and Chrome/Chromium forks do (and before someone says they uses ram to improve performance, how it is gonna improve performance filling ram and using swap on low ram system) . That is pretty much sweet spot between going console browser or more memory hog browser. I did run some tests under my asus eepc 900 (512mb ram, 900mhz celeron M) running tweaked Windows XP and had 25mb memory usage and 20% cpu usage at worst with it while was able access most of websites. Windows build is experimental but I had no issues with it. This is good option consider to peoples with lower end systems like @Gansangriff if you still run that Pentium 3 system Here is screenshot from ssllabs (on main pc since bigger monitor) and it ssl test. It supports all expect tls 1.3 s 2
Sampei.Nihira Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 I wouldn't use it. Do this test: https://browserleaks.com/ssl It is interesting for Mixed Content Test. 1

I see now this option but it says only available in Ultimate version http://www.avantbrowser.com/download.aspx?uil=en When I install ultimate version again I don't see the option. Also, I can't navigate the Internet. Edit: The option only appears after pressing the options menu, clicking on the rendering engine, switching to Internet Explorer and after opening a web page compatible with Internet Explorer such as www.google.com Now that I see the option it just shows me: -Internet Explorer -Firefox It doesn't show me Chrome. When I try to choose Firefox it does not allow me. Some time ago I tried this browser and I think the last full version compatible with Windows XP is from a few years ago. And beware, this changes the Internet Explorer home page automatically. Edited June 22, 2021 by Cixert

This looks like an original Chromium 87 build with little change. Testing the configuration menu I see that the "security keys" option resets the browser. The rest works fine. It catches my attention that when browsing the Internet the Windows XP firewall jumps. I have chosen the option to reject additional network connections and it seems to still work normally. https://browser.kfsafe.cn I have tried Kafan MiniBrowser. It works fine but has a problem with the RAM. Computer 1: Pentium 4 with 2 GiB RAM & PATA Disk: This only works fast up to a maximum of 5 tabs open at the same time (approximate according to web size). From there it starts working with virtual memory and you may have to wait 15 minutes when opening new pages for it to load virtual memory on the PATA hard drive. Computer 2: Core i3 with 8 GiB RAM & SSD disk: In this computer I have the Windows virtual memory disabled. This works well up to a maximum of 25 tabs open at the same time (approximate according to web size). From there it reaches the 8 GiB RAM limit, at which point the result is unpredictable: -Mini Browser Freeze -Blue screen -Windows XP processes are closed Edited June 22, 2021 by Cixert

Gansangriff Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 @Mr.Scienceman2000 Netsurf is the browser for a nearly extinct species: Amiga users! It's nice to have small browsers that still get updates like Netsurf around, but on Windows XP there are more alternatives. The Pentium 3 is more than enough for Netsurf, using only 15 MB RAM here. The TLS-updated Netscape 9 with 25 MB has a better compatibility and customisability however (my prefered choice on Windows 98 computers and weak Windows XP systems, like the 400 MHz Celeron). New Moon (NoSSE or SSE-only) would be the next step to try out, but that gives the 20-year old machine a tough time on some sites.
