Such behavior is typical for AdBlock Plus/uBlock Origin for example. Try disabling addons/extensions one-by-one and You'll eventually find the culprit. By the way, the latest working release of AdBlock Plus, compatible with Windows XP and Firefox 52.2.0 ESR is 2.8.2. Thanks for your answer, but no, after disabling all addons it's the same. I installed both to compare and the diference is big. Even opening a folder in the bookmarks toolbar and hovering the mouse through other folders to open them is slower. In a faster computer maybe won't be noticiable but definitely the performance of 45.9 is much better than 52.
Dclem
I had a similiar experience moving to 52.2 ESR from 52.0.2 (32 bit). Along with the very slow browsing, I also noticed parts of the web page were not loading. The whole experience was very degraded. I have since moved back to 52.0.2 (32 bit) and my browsing experience has corrected. The only extensions I have loading are Kaspersky Protection and the follwoing plug ins: Open H264Codec, Adobe Shockwave Flash and Primetime Decryption Module which I installed to play MP4. I felt as though the 52.2 ESR version wasn't designed for browsing cpu intensive sites such as Facebook. Edited June 19, 2017 by Dclem
Dave-H
Strange, I've seen no difference in performance with 52.2 over 52.0, but I do have a reasonably powerful machine which might make the difference. I also have eight add-ons installed too, and although browsing isn't as quick as with Opera 36 say, I don't think it's a problem, and I much prefer Firefox for other reasons. Mcinwwl
@Bersaglio did a good list, that lacks items I needed the most - For office 2007. So i did, and you have files listed below. I couldn't find such elegant links for executables, so I provide links to cab packages from windows update with exception to one that has many language versions - there you have catalog list. Keep in mind that all files are not necessary - you don't need update for Outlook 2007 if you have home version of Office. http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/usp10-x-none_c40622c2ad28b969494669576cb709fd465e0970.cab KB3191837 Office 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/word-x-none_e3617c5534b1f74f177c9f3babe85ca7049864b4.cab KB3203441 Word 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/mso-x-none_91008015358f13ca21c9fb565196092cbbc289f2.cab KB3203436 Office 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/powerpoint-x-none_b52bee6af81ba748908e91257b1b7e7efebe8f42.cab KB3127888 PowerPoint 2007 http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB3118304 KB3118304 Office 2007 Many language versions-choose yours http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/outlook-x-none_9074b332e588526264deb590fd6f9f90f6f5b5ed.cab KB3191898 Outlook 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/05/ogl-x-none_f5a7344d79b930abdebcd8b9ca47978fb83d94cf.cab KB3191828 Office 2007 Hope I made no mistake :>

Yes, apparently the viewers use some of the same .dll's as the full Office 2010 install - I guess the same way the 2007 compatibility pack uses some of the same .dll's as the full Office 2007. So if they update any of those .dll's used by the viewer, I get the Office 2010 update through Micro$oft update - and it does make the scan go to 99% CPU. I have to let it run overnight. Mcinwwl
I'm glad to inform that you are right, and after manually installing Office 2007 patches scan for new updates went smoothly and they installed flawlessly. I'm also glad to inform that after recent updates, Avast! will most likely stop troubling your updates. Besides, I'm not sure how Compatibility Pack 2007 patches should apply to Office 2007. I've downloaded all of them listed by Bersalgio, and KB3191828, KB3203436 and KB3203438 got installed. KB3127894 thrown error that there is no program installed that it should apply to. Microsoft on their blog (link below) shows KB3203438 and KB3127894 as applicable for office 2007, so i understand nothing...

Dave-H
Are those updates only applicable to the full install of Office 2007? I have Office XP (2002) installed, with the 2007 Compatibility Pack as an add-on.

Monroe
Have a question about MS Office 2000 and the Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility pack. I decided not to get POS updates on my WinXP machine but I still would do the monthly update check. I was still getting updates for my Office 2000 setup ... until early 2015 when I could no longer get these updates. The update check no longer worked, it would run forever and the computer got hot so I decided to just quit checking for future Office 2007 Compatibility pack updates. With the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack updates that Bersaglio supplied for June ... I downloaded those and they installed just fine. My question is ... I am probably missing many Office 2007 Compatibility pack updates since March 2015. These June updates are not 'cumulative' I suppose ... so there must still be over two years of updates that I am missing on my Office 2000 setup? Am I correct on this? Now I don't think it's that important since I don't use Office 2000 that much these days ... only if I run into a Word document somewhere. Also, if I do use Office 2000, I am always (usually) 'offline' ... no internet connection. So the fact that I have missed so many security Office 2007 Compatibility pack updates is probably not a big deal in my case ... am I correct in my thinking or am I missing something? thanks ... Dave-H
In my experience, the updates for the 2007 Office Compatibility Pack often only update the converter files for Office elements, like wordcnv.exe for Word, excelcnv.exe for Excel etc. That being the case, the latest version of those files is the latest version, and there's no need to have installed intermediate versions. Of course occasionally, like last time, other files such as DLLs are updated too, but I would still be surprised if you weren't covered by the latest updates.
heinoganda
For Updates simply the download links via the WSUS Catalog (for example, to KB3118304), since each user can choose the language that the required. For the Windows XP updates, disable automatic updates, first install the Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 8 every second Tuesday of the month and then start a manual search in Windows Update (Disable Microsoft Update) in IE. http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate Unfortunately, I can not offer a better solution, so many scenarios have already played many times, with no better way to avoid the high CPU utilization at svchost.
