  1. I use PART boot manager, which all fit to first sector and give me capability to select any primary partition from up to 4 on disk, to corrent boot by one key. ie, i can select boot to dos & 98, xp, 7 or linux by one key. but always after reinstall 98se its stupid installer rewrite MBR to standard MS code, as with fdisk /mbr... as i can forbid do it? i already try: setup /ir switch, setup /nltdr switch with C:\NTLDR file, msbatch options System CCP CleanBoot with all values... all it is helpless versus stupid power w98setup.bin/suwin.dll/setupx.dll. there
  2. So I have this HP laptop that I would like to put 98 on. HP nx6110. I have gotten 98 to install using a 98 disk with LoneCrusader's extra chipset stuff on there. There aren't many options in BIOS and I was afraid it would have serious issues, it does run though. I tried /p i on the install first but that didn't work, it would hang at about 14 minutes left on "installing hardware" and reboot over and over. Using no switches worked and it installed to my surprise. I turned off legacy USB and execute disable and I think that's it. There were no power options to disable ACPI or any other powe
  3. Hello, So I finally got my Audigy 2 ZS installed under Windows 98 SE by installing VxD drivers manually. I'm using a Asus p5pe-vm motherboard. All of the system sounds come through just fine, CD Audio works fine as well. However, when trying to launch most games I do not get any audio. Most games don't produce an error just silence. However, any of the Humongous Entertainment games do produce this interesting error that prevents the game from running: "during the dma buffer size search the sound card wouldn't prepare our sound headers" I honestly have no idea what to do with that and Goo
  4. I was looking for a video card for Windows 98 SE with a driver disk and I found one for Windows 95. I hate the way Windows 9x and how Windows 2000 looks when no graphics driver is installed (or installed correctly I guess). I know Windows 98 SE should at least provide compatibility with Windows 95 drivers, but does Windows 95 drivers allow Windows 98 SE to have full true 16, 24, or 32bit graphics or does Windows 95 drivers make Windows 98 stay on low resolution 256 colors?
  5. Hi folks, long time no see. Today, one of my older 98se socket 7 boxes is acting up. At bootup, it keeps going into the blue-colored screen, Microsoft Registry Checker. It supposedly loads up a new registry and tells me to Restart. However, it doesn't work. It will keep going into the Checker, then loading, then rebooting. However, at the first times it acted up, it was able to load up a good registry and get me into the desktop normally, but now never more. Going into Safe Mode at boot does not help either, it will still go to the Checker. But I can go into either of the Command Prompts
  6. I'm a bit of a newb here, sorry... I have no idea what I'm doing. I know I need the Revolutions Pack and KernelEx, but what order do I install them? Do I need 98MP10 and 98SE2ME? Should I use u98sesp3? Thanks!
  7. Some people have favorite software that doesn't run under later OSs; others just like being out of the mainstream. Dell 2400s are often $25 on local BB's, even FREE at dumpsites and from friends. With CPU speeds 2.4-2.8 gHz or so and hard drives of at least several gigs they're potentially super performers with 98SE. Realism is important -- '98SE CANNOT replace a general Win XP or later system -- but it's possible to have a very fast reliable way to run 95/98 software with necessary tools (Firefox ...) to support it. The same probably is true of other make machines with chipsets supporte
  8. OK, so, many packs and packages exist to enhance 98SE beyond its original state and well beyond its fully-Microsoft-updated state at this point. 98SE2ME 98SESP3 (3.55 as of this writing) There are other minor packages like NUSB and such but I'm mainly talking about the larger packs here. The point: what ones do you install to get an optimal setup of 98SE these days? My current belief is that 98SESP3 contains the most useful things in 98SE2ME and 98SE2ME is largely useless unless you want some niche changes, but you could perform those yourself manually. I may be wrong, whi

  10. Hey all, I am here for advice/help on getting Windows 98se to work on a Compaq Presario SR1090NX Desktop. I seem to be able to find all the drivers I need for getting everything to work, but I am having an issue where the IDE controller is having a resource conflict, this doesn't happen in Windows XP SP3. The reason this is a issue is because it leads to the system not being able to detect either optical drive. It seems no amount of fiddling with the settings in the bios does anything. It also seems that when I get all the drivers installed, the system will lock up at random times, sometimes
  11. Hey, everybody! Advice on this is subject scattered through several threads; I felt it deserved its own. What 98/98SE-compatible browser is best for YouTube? I'm currently running a 450MHz Pentium III with 256MB of RAM. IE6 & K-Meleon are what I'm using. Haven't installed KernelEX. Thanks in advance!
  12. I have a host machine running Win 7 Pro 64bit. Installed Virtual PC 2007. Made a virtual machine and installed Windows 98SE. How do I get the networking working for the 98 machine has internet?
