  1. What is the program you are having trouble with? Some people are having problems after installing SP1 because they tweaked their registry with a tweak program before the installation of SP1. When SP1 looks at the registry entry for a specific instruction(s) the Microsoft default was changed and thus the errors. We need to know more. Me wants more. More More More!

    Win 98 comp

Also the power supply, Flash. Is the Power Supply old? Check the vent on the back of the Power Supply. End of summer here in Europe, so a lot of PCs are doing the traditional lock-up. Is the PC near a heater or window that could be affecting the temperture? Both of the above contribute to a PC that runs fine for a while then starts locking up now and then. Don't forget to defrag a hard drive after a lock up as the files get scrambled. Is it a female PC? Sounds like my first wife.
  5. I get this message sometimes when Explorer is open. and recently received it when I had an AOL RealPlayer session open. I use DOS in safe mode when it gets out of hand. But next time I will give Rev's suggestions a try as it seems easier.
  6. Post # 3. I noticed it as well. 5 hours back I counted 5 or 6 threads I think. Is a major gateway down?

  10. There it is. Lay low Thanks guys.
  11. Hmm, I know Trident makes Video Drivers (Ihave a diskette if you need the drivers), but I didn't know they made motherboards. Wew, this is really going back. Anyway, if all of that sounds confusing, go over to http://www.bootdisk.com and download a CD-ROM diskette (lots to choose from) and see their guides for installing a CD-ROM drive. Like FthrJack said, also check t make sure the CD-ROM drive is installed properly in the first place. The cable he is talking about has a thin (hard to see) red line on one side that runs the length of the cable. Where the line terminates at the end of the plastic connectors is where pin number one is located. Be sure to plug that connector into the motherboard in the correct position. Newer boards are clearly marked with a "1" for this purpose. If you board is not clearly marked (it may be very small to read - get a magnifier glass) simply plug the cable into the CD-ROM drive with the red line seated in the right-hand side of the CD-ROM drives connector. This assumes your CD-ROM drive is mounted in an upright position. Be sure to get that boot dikette from bootdisk.com Hope this helps.
  12. I just don't want to break the board rules and at the same time show respect where it is due. I learned that earlier today that someone in Switzerland was exposed and taken into custody to include all computer related material. Maybe it is a rumor. I don't know. However, the site is down and I am told others will follow.

  15. Problems (1, 2, and 3) are the result of the source script witin the web pages you are visiting. Web Masters have options to write script that turns off a short list of functions within IE6. Also, IE 5 for that fact, but not as easy as IE6. Unfortunately, if the script was poorly written or improperly placed in page, the effects will result (carry into) in other other pages you visit. You as a user have no choice in this matter other than to email the web master and voice your concerns. One easy fix is to close all the web pages you presently have open and re-open them once again, one-by-one, until you locate the page(s) with the disabled options. Once you have found the source or sources simply do not revisit those pages for information that you have come to rely on for your purposes. Seek alternative sources for information. Where this is not an option you may consider a differen't web browser or actually install multiple web browsers. The Opera web browser to include Netscape are other browsers that you may want to examine.
  16. One of my sources told me that Switzerland was exposed. All connections are at risk as I understand the situation. Any word?
