  1. Try installing this? http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8483
  2. It would help to post more information. Namely, here is Error Code 43's description: What driver is installed? You can find details for it on the Details tab. What is the Hardware ID? You can find this in the dropdown on the Advanced Tab. Will look like PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx or PID_ or VID_ naming. Did you install the BT driver from Dell's website for this computer?
  3. I've got Memento on my list. I'm a big movie collector and what at least 3-4 a week. I did watch Falling Down recently, although my last one was Panic Room.

  5. It appears that the Themes setting is ignored by sysprep, but will work if you use it in an Autounattend.xml and using WES7e Setup. As a work-around, I created a .theme file, and added the following to my EXE I run in FirstLogonCommands: ShellExecute ( "c:\downloads\CustomTheme.theme" ) The only downside is that you need to close the Personalization window after the image boots but that is a fine price to pay.
  6. To be specific, there are no "jumpers" already on a SATA drive, but they do have pins where one could be placed. Here is a picture example I found, you can see the pins here: http://www.vpsems.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Sata-hard-drive.jpg Some drives like SeaGate and Toshiba (and other notebook sized drives) also have pins, but look like this instead: http://www.pacificgeek.com/productimages/xl/MK8034GSX-R.jpg http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~chsmith/Clunk/Seagate%20Sata.jpg
  7. I had a similar problem with a friend's notebook. We had taken it apart and tested it out and found that the DC connector on the power board was not showing the correct reading. After purchasing a new one (and getting someone to replace the part) we tested again and the power levels were correct, however the problem was not solved. We found that the problem existed even further into the circuit as well, but the choice of buying a new board vs risking component replacement came down to price vs risk and neither was worth it. You problem may or may not be the same, but it could be as easy as replacing the DC connector. They can be had fairly cheap on eBay, however you'll also need to be comfortable working with lead-free soldering, which requires a lot more heat than your standard stuff you'd buy at a Radio Shack.
  8. If anything, a built in way for the installer to uninstall an already installed program would only (probably) an older Norton 360 product. Anything else, you are going to have to script it yourself.
  9. I had used Fireworks in CS4 last year and found it had barely any noticeable differences except for the GUI. I'm not even sure why Adobe decided to keep it around.

  12. I used this one over the first. The reason being is that I had thought that Wikipedia would use a more recent signature over the one he used in the earlier work, but I was wrong. Fortunately for me, Wikipedia will always want you to save an SVG as a PNG, not to say I am without skill in SVG, but editing it makes it easier. Fireworks opens this with a transparent background, which is preferable over the other version. As you can probably tell, I had modified the color of the signature. But you may notice it isn't exactly the same color as the other green, being the parts of the face and the German text. This is because i guestimated it using the Hue/Saturation filter. First, I knew that the image was too large for a signature, so I used an image resize on it. At first I did a whole resize, and then used Transform to my liking. As for getting rid of the white background, no tracing was involved. Since the image was so large, it was likely originally some other format, which seemed to be true. I merely used the magic wand with some varied levels of tolerance to remove the white. And of course, don't forget the "select similar" which doesn't always work but did in this case. As far as the unused images, this is common in my work on building an image. I will take in multiple different images before determining what i use. In this case, I felt it fine to leave these un-used resources in my post to show you them. It is only because at first I developed the image list before I actually got a look at everything and got an idea. The background was removed prior to shrinking the image, as outlined above. The Gesellschaft used glow at 5 height, 87% opacity, 12 softness, 0 offset. The signature has different settings as it didn't need as much to stand out. You can do what you want with the image. That's why I made it. My approach is to do it by accident at first, and not be able to recreate it at a later time if I tried, because I've forgotten how I did it. As noted in previous placed (although I was initially mistaken about how PNGs work) I use Fireworks MX 2004. I have uploaded the source file, which can be opened in (at least) this version of Fireworks and retain all layers. It could possibly be opened in Fireworks 2 (I've had some success at backwards compatibility, but I'm too lazy *myself* to boot up Shiva). http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/ss236/tpx_bst/Designs/Untitled-1.png
  13. As far as a signature goes, I made it within the signature limits we allow here. It would probably look better with a dark skin tho, since I can't really see the border.

  15. Back on topic, I got bored and made this. I didn't spend a lot of time on it. Strangely enough, I didn't actually use any fonts or font effects. 16. Raymond, what do you want to be?

  17. It would appear that Windows Embedded Standard 7e ignores the Themes (and child-nodes) when using sysprep with an unattend.xml. Even the Panther logs show it parses everything except for Themes. It is in the documentation and the same XML works on Windows 7 Professional x86. ICE validates fine and does not mention if something is missing. Has anyone tried to use Theme elements (ie WindowColor) with WES7e (trial or otherwise) via sysprep or even an autounattend.xml? Code example: <Themes> <ThemeName>aero</ThemeName> <DefaultThemesOff>false</DefaultThemesOff> <DesktopBackground>c:\downloads\background.jpg</DesktopBackground> <WindowColor>Leaf</WindowColor> </Themes>
  18. Perhaps I mistook the use of the term "installation." Did you mean it as installation of the operating system or installation of the printer? Also maybe you wanted to know how to locally manage printers rather than using Active Directory? Most times when people need help with how to get a bunch of computers inside a domain to have some shared policy or setting, it is done with AD or something being pushed from the server in one way or another. If all are being manually done, then all will have to have their printer properties changed to B&W each time, if the printer driver supports it that is. Of the 3 color printers I have installed, only 1 has the option to use B&W and not color. While this could be an option, the only way to stop individual users from changing it back to color would be to revoke their printer management abilities.
  19. I will see about using the reg in FirstLogonCommands, but I might just stick with what I know works. It takes over an hour to rebuild the image if sysprep fails. Anyways, this isn't an unattend topic... I probably shouldn't have even put that in my first post.
  20. Ah yes. Perhaps it needs *more* elevation, as with UAC enabled, it still will open the elevation prompt if you simply choose to do the Merge option.
  21. Haven't gotten to that point yet! Although we may not need it. I tested with an AutoIT exe and it was able to write to the registry fine (even though a couple of those settings I posted are wrong) so worst case scenario I can just use that exe. Its just odd that a standard right-click Merge doesn't seem to work.
  22. I am working on testing a reg file to run via FirstLogonCommands. I begin by testing on a regular OS (to save time) and once it works, I will add to the answer file. The problem is that while I can do a merge, none of the new values actually appear in the registry, and as such, do not actually make the changes. For the normal test, I right-click on the regfile and click Merge. I get no errors. Here is the reg file: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "HideSCAHealth"=DWORD:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\URL History] "DaysToSave"=DWORD:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\domain.com] @="" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\domain.com\www] "http"=DWORD:00000002 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\domain.net] @="" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\domain.net\www] "https"=DWORD:00000002 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_WEBOC_POPUPMANAGEMENT] "iexplore.exe"=DWORD:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "HideFileExt"=DWORD:00000000 "Hidden"=DWORD:00000001 The test platform is 7PRO 32. What am I doing wrong? I may try testing using AutoIT as well, but I figure I should know how to do this.
  23. So currently the 2008 is a backup DC? I know there is an actual guide on TechNet/KB about doing a domain transfer, but I can't find the link. There are some general outlines that users have posted here in the past:
  24. I hate printers, I really do, but the first thing that comes to mind is modifying the INF they use. I'm sure there must be a better answer. I'll get the big questions out of the way now: - Is there a domain in place here, and if so what OS is on the server (or the domain functional level)? - What are the models of these printers? - Are they all USB or do some connect some other way? - Are the printers only connected to workstations, servers, or are some network printers?
  25. A lot of trojans like to make files and do *something* with them. One of the head-aches of dealing with these is that people are usually able to find the files that are made, but not necessarily find what is making them. So changing the ACLs on files like that to stop them from working, but leaving it so that the virus itself doesn't try to make new ones.
