  1. Me too but I have a sneaking suspicion. Split from wayforward topic.
  2. I have some experience as a user of a Ruffle implementation on another site, specifically the SMF plug-in. It is not perfect and is not good in some instances where you'd be better off using actual Flash instead. The specifics are memory leaks and not being able to handle large amounts of symbols. The symbols one is weird as it causes logic errors to occur.
  3. Yes the BIOS can lock out the ability to boot specific architectures. If this is indeed the issue, the only solution is to get a modified BIOS from the manufacturer. There may be a version already available that allows x86 boot but it wouldn't be the latest. You'll have to look at older BIOS and their changelogs if the manufacturer makes things like that. For example, Intel has release notes for their different versions that can be read to find specific ones to use.

  5. Recommend changing topic title to exactly what it is you want, otherwise this thread will draw spambots.
  6. It was a few years ago that the county executive had decided to back some plan to ban plastic bags because one time he was driving in the city, he saw plastic bags stuck to trees. And he then decided that banning the use of plastic bags was the solution and not say... organising some groups to clean up the garbage. And everyone also conveniently forgot the last time we banned plastic bags in the 90s that didn't end up lasting. For one it was the 90s and the alternative was some sort of composite bag made from corn or something that would fall apart or biodegrade way too soon... like still at the store. So they made everyone use paper bags. Then the environmentalists made a big fuss about all of the trees that were being cut for the bags and they went back to plastic. So now that we are back to paper (although many places are still using plastic despite the ban) I am counting the days until the crying over cut trees is heard again.
  7. The issue isn't that simple. The reason is that every program is different and they store files all over the place. I'd rather spend the time using my computers for what I want to, rather than spend countless hours trying to track where a hundred programs write files and see if I can redirect them or not. Basically, I am past those days of hobbyist workings with Windows in that capacity.
  8. Perception wise, 5400 RPM is indeed slow and you can usually tell a speed difference between that and 7200 RPM.
  9. The board photos on their site for the v1 and v2 are the exact same photo. For other manufacturers, often a V2 is not a change in specifications, but that the board is built using different parts, come with a different firmware somewhere, or is constructed differently electrically. There is nothing about the SATA ports being disabled when PCIe is used in any of their documents. They have a UK forum https://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/board,5.0.html
  10. As in, is it looking for a file, a file attribute (version) or at a registry key? It may be annoying due to how heavy a browser is, but the first thing I would attempt is to run a procmon trace on the browser when it is opened. I am presuming it is when opening the browser that it does the check, but if you know it does it at some other time, you can just limit the trace to that instead.
  11. Thermal paste doesn't need to be wet at all. Its only function is to provide a path for heat to move from the CPU to the heat sink. So the fact that it is dry isn't a concern as long as that heat transfer is still occuring.
  12. It seems to work for me. Because you didn't post it. It is an option under Layers. It shown different shades of color on each county and a number and an up or down arrow. It doesn't have any sort of pop-up to say what the number means. Also it only seems to work for certain countries.
  13. Can't go by the information published on store pages. They are not always correct. One example is EUIV https://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/Europa_Universalis_IV/ Says it requires Windows 8.1. But it runs perfectly fine on Win7 with no errors or even any sort of pop-up. Same goes for the version on Epic.
  14. It is EOL, MS does not have large teams assigned to XP projects anymore.
  15. Of course it doesn't. It only says what you can do, which is to use the OS on the computer it came with. You can transfer the license but the OS must be on that same computer. You can make a copy for backup purposes. Anything beyond that is out of scope, which includes modifying the OS to make a new install disk. I can only find the one for US not for France. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Useterms/OEM/Windows/10/UseTerms_OEM_Windows_10_English.htm
  16. Most manufacturers stick to the old way of determining compatibility and may just list Windows 10 as a blanket statement. What is more likely is that either their software or the hardware with the software was tested with a version of Windows 10. Obviously we know all the different builds of Win10 act differently and likely it does work on at least one of them. And also it may be that they tested it on one build and do not continually retest when new builds come out. I suspect the printer compatibility list may be only speaking of using the printer itself and without the software for it. Using generic drivers, etc.
  17. I am not really concerned with updates as it is, my big decision time will come whenever Steam decides to drop Win7.
  18. The license does not grant you the right to reimage. It is not about law. Law comes into deal with how Microsoft would be able to prosecute a person who violated the license and that is what comes down to what country you live in.
  19. Easiest way to be a mod (or admin) is to make your own forum to learn how to do everything.
  20. That is aimed at Enterprise channel. You are mixing up terms. It is not the media, it is the data. A recovery DVD is just an install DVD, there is nothing special about it. The OEM is the only one who is permitted to create installations using their software and the only one who can put their software on hardware. Enterprise or Retail users (hobbyists) are not allowed to do either of those things. This is all licensing things and unfortunately I cannot link to any public documentation. Microsoft, in all their wisdom, decided to lock this information behind Partner levels, even though it certainly has a use to (at least) those at the System Builder level.
  21. There is no right to reimage OEM installations.
  22. Not a conspiracy unless it can be proven to be illegal. There is certainly collusion occuring in the industry. If you think Microsoft just decided to do things this way out of the blue, you're dreaming.
  23. It seems to be that Feodor2 only provides MPL2 on the repo and nothing in addition. MPL2 FAQ doesn't seem to say anything about redist of old binaries in particular. So as long as the the person who is going/wants to share the old version has not modified the files they can link to it here. If they have modified the files, then they must meet requirements of MPL2 to link to it. If the original author requests content removal and proves that MPL2 has been violated then we will of course remove the link afterwards. https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/blob/main/LICENSE https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/MPL/2.0/FAQ/
  24. Dark theme used to be have a following by people who thought it was cool, dating back to the "High Contrast Black" days of 3.x and NT. It wasn't originally meant to be anything other than an accessibility option. Then sometime during the late 90s some studies were run and it was found that using the dark themes (the High Contrast Black OS theme) was beneficial to CRT display longevity and even became a recommendation in computing magazines (and even in web design) up through the mid 2000s. However the thing that changed was the move away from CRT to LCD panels and it was learned that the dark themes had no benefit any longer. Unfortunately it was too late to remove the people's want of a dark theme they didn't actually need any longer and we still have it as an option to this day.
  25. 40 GB for Win7/8 OS install is fine but only if you are going to be managing space/data by using other drives. On physical I never use smaller than 80 GB disks but for a few VMs I've used 40 GB without an issue for the server-based equivalents. I can't really answer the 7 or 8 question. I use DOS programs multiple times a week on my Win7 but I use DOSBox for it.
