  1. Ah yes, the old keyboard buffer overflow... Instead, try to access the F8 menu and see if a Repair option appears at the top. It looks like this: And after that loads, apparently there is a Toshiba HDD Recovery option to choose.
  2. Both the synceng.dll files (Syswow64/system32) show as having a file version of .16384. @Andre there must have been some error along the lines in our documentation process and we didn't even download 2771431.
  3. I will be nice and not make some joke about Metro beta testers that just popped up in my head. Ooops!
  4. THis thread has a rundown on how to create your PE
  5. Yesterday I integrated around a dozen MSU packages from Windows Update into a Windows 8 Pro x64 image. Of those that were integrated (confirmed via DISM) these updates still show up as being offered after checking for updates: KB2727528 KB2771431 KB2772501 Anyone else find this behaviour?
  6. Post the WinPE section of your XML file.
  7. OK well if we're back on this again, I doubt you'll find anything relevant in the BIOS. I may be able to find the appropriate drivers but since I'm all messed up with this thread, I need this info: - model of notebook - hardware ID of the Intel video device from Device Manager - and may be helpful, the Code number reported in Device Manager for the ATI device that is flagged.
  8. May not be necessary. SSDs will not wake properly from hibernate or sleep unless certain things are set: - AHCI mode for SATA - appropriate drivers that recognize SSD. I've had this problem, it is solved (on Intel chipsets) by installing the Intel Rapid Storage v11.6 software. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3409&DwnldID=22036&keyword=IRST&DownloadType=Drivers〈=eng Choose the third option iata_enu.exe.
  9. I think most people actually put their arms flat on whatever surface (no pun intended) they are writing on. A touchscreen makes me think this would be quite difficult to do without sending cursors all over the place.
  10. For all intents and purposes, www.ronuk.org and ronuk.org are the same. A server or browser may automatically insert the www. to the domain upon going to the site. Either way, both addresses should resolve to the same IP. You should email who handles your name server and see if it is something they can take a look at.
  11. 1. MBR and UEFI mode is determined by the boot method of the installation media. 2. Attach your XML file, but redact product key and any sensitive information such as login credentials or domain info, etc.
  12. That's one drawback of WSIM, it doesn't always know what exactly those packages are supposed to do. Did you look at the setupact.log after getting the error to know what feature it is referring to?
  13. I just forgot really. You have a hybrid graphics notebook. While the drivers for desktop versions may install properly, the switching won't work as expected. You need to use the notebook specific video drivers, specifically the Intel one. You will need the Intel Mobility drivers (post the HwID for it) as well as the possibility of needing the switching software unless you have a physical switch. Some early hybrid models required rebooting into the BIOS and changing a setting, and then booting back up into Windows to use the other adapter. Either that or there may be a physical switch and still require a reboot. All the times I look up emachines e642g I find it has a different Radeon chip than you say it does.
  14. Problem #1: The driver is a modified Win9x driver. Problem #2: There is no catalog. Xbox is still fairly popular and there are plenty of modders out there for these and legacy systems. I'm sure you'll find some other implementation as long as there is a backing for it and people move to Windows 7. I don't have an Xbox or a controller for one so I wouldn't really know what I'm looking for. I typically try to stay away from current gen forums since they seem to be way too large for me to handle... Reminds me of posting on Battle.net or similar.
  15. I don't know if the member group updates on a delay or what. Can you post an example? The only 2 validating members I see right now aren't in the process of posting.
  16. Well this is certainly interesting... C:\windows\system32>nslookup ronuk.org Server: xxxx Address: x.x.x.x Non-authoritative answer: Name: ronuk.org Address: 174.129.88.121 C:\windows\system32>nslookup www.ronuk.org Server: xxxx Address: x.x.x.x Non-authoritative answer: Name: www.ronuk.org Address: 81.102.255.73 Maybe this has something to do with it?
  17. I typically like to leave Windows at its defaults and use only 1 software method for controlling sound. So for my PCs I let Winamp handle the EQ, and the Creative (or other) software not enable any EQ or other effects. I believe I have experienced the problem you have with my iPod in my car. In that case, I have set a volume limiter on the iPod to 60% ... anything over that can cause distortion for some reason. It had this problem both with using a tape adapter (in old car) or using the aux in my current one. With an iPod and current car stereo there is limited things you can do really. I believe my iPod uses the Jazz mode, and then the car's levels are: 9 bass 6 mid 2 treble (out of ten) So in your case, make sure either you choose to use whichever is better at controlling your sound. You'll have to test whether that's your computer or your receiver.
  18. I believe any folder called System32 will be automatically protected by the OS and prevent writing. Try copying the files by using an elevated command prompt.
  19. Welcome to the MSFN!
  20. Well that's definately a good thing. I've had the fortune of having my own test networks at my current and past jobs so that I wouldn't have to bring work home. I've made similar "project" topics like this before here.
  21. Make sure the users have NTFS read rights as well.
  22. To be precautious, we shall no longer mention or make use of the Hiren's boot cd. Yes I can imagine the PC would lock up by plugging the HDD in later. Various circumstances can allow that, such as not having AHCI mode and/or SATA hot plug enabled.
  23. I've never heard of that either. But all the OEMs mentioned are high volume ones and cater to the retail market. I would imagine it is just plain easier for them to create a singular product (say Thinkpad model whatever) for the retail market and it can only be purchased with a Windows OS on it. In a retail setting there would be no reason for say Best Buy to carry model with OS and without and let the customer pick which they want. There shouldn't be a reason why you couldn't get said Thinkpad directly from Lenovo without an OS... but I think what it is that all their products are mass produced in an assembly line. They all get Windows and all the same stuff. Then Lenovo already had paid for the COA on each. They go right from the factory to the warehouse waiting to be purchased. So it makes sense to me in a mass produced case like that, why the OS would be mandatory. While some mentioned OEMs can do a BTO those are probably in the majority compared to whatever else they are selling.
