  1. That's one drawback of WSIM, it doesn't always know what exactly those packages are supposed to do. Did you look at the setupact.log after getting the error to know what feature it is referring to?
  2. I just forgot really. You have a hybrid graphics notebook. While the drivers for desktop versions may install properly, the switching won't work as expected. You need to use the notebook specific video drivers, specifically the Intel one. You will need the Intel Mobility drivers (post the HwID for it) as well as the possibility of needing the switching software unless you have a physical switch. Some early hybrid models required rebooting into the BIOS and changing a setting, and then booting back up into Windows to use the other adapter. Either that or there may be a physical switch and still require a reboot. All the times I look up emachines e642g I find it has a different Radeon chip than you say it does.
  3. Problem #1: The driver is a modified Win9x driver. Problem #2: There is no catalog. Xbox is still fairly popular and there are plenty of modders out there for these and legacy systems. I'm sure you'll find some other implementation as long as there is a backing for it and people move to Windows 7. I don't have an Xbox or a controller for one so I wouldn't really know what I'm looking for. I typically try to stay away from current gen forums since they seem to be way too large for me to handle... Reminds me of posting on Battle.net or similar.
  4. I don't know if the member group updates on a delay or what. Can you post an example? The only 2 validating members I see right now aren't in the process of posting.
  5. Well this is certainly interesting... C:\windows\system32>nslookup ronuk.org Server: xxxx Address: x.x.x.x Non-authoritative answer: Name: ronuk.org Address: 174.129.88.121 C:\windows\system32>nslookup www.ronuk.org Server: xxxx Address: x.x.x.x Non-authoritative answer: Name: www.ronuk.org Address: 81.102.255.73 Maybe this has something to do with it?
  6. I typically like to leave Windows at its defaults and use only 1 software method for controlling sound. So for my PCs I let Winamp handle the EQ, and the Creative (or other) software not enable any EQ or other effects. I believe I have experienced the problem you have with my iPod in my car. In that case, I have set a volume limiter on the iPod to 60% ... anything over that can cause distortion for some reason. It had this problem both with using a tape adapter (in old car) or using the aux in my current one. With an iPod and current car stereo there is limited things you can do really. I believe my iPod uses the Jazz mode, and then the car's levels are: 9 bass 6 mid 2 treble (out of ten) So in your case, make sure either you choose to use whichever is better at controlling your sound. You'll have to test whether that's your computer or your receiver.
  7. I believe any folder called System32 will be automatically protected by the OS and prevent writing. Try copying the files by using an elevated command prompt.
  8. Welcome to the MSFN!
  9. Well that's definately a good thing. I've had the fortune of having my own test networks at my current and past jobs so that I wouldn't have to bring work home. I've made similar "project" topics like this before here.
  10. Make sure the users have NTFS read rights as well.
  11. To be precautious, we shall no longer mention or make use of the Hiren's boot cd. Yes I can imagine the PC would lock up by plugging the HDD in later. Various circumstances can allow that, such as not having AHCI mode and/or SATA hot plug enabled.
  12. I've never heard of that either. But all the OEMs mentioned are high volume ones and cater to the retail market. I would imagine it is just plain easier for them to create a singular product (say Thinkpad model whatever) for the retail market and it can only be purchased with a Windows OS on it. In a retail setting there would be no reason for say Best Buy to carry model with OS and without and let the customer pick which they want. There shouldn't be a reason why you couldn't get said Thinkpad directly from Lenovo without an OS... but I think what it is that all their products are mass produced in an assembly line. They all get Windows and all the same stuff. Then Lenovo already had paid for the COA on each. They go right from the factory to the warehouse waiting to be purchased. So it makes sense to me in a mass produced case like that, why the OS would be mandatory. While some mentioned OEMs can do a BTO those are probably in the majority compared to whatever else they are selling.
  13. Going to the IP address of the website only shows a placeholder page.
  14. Validating is the user group that a new member enters. After they respond to the invitation email with that hash that is sent, they get moved into the Members group. Basically, anyone in Validating group hasn't replied to the email yet.
  15. Just to warn you, if your company is using a residential plan, running a server is probably against the TOS. They should look into getting one of the lower tier business packages. The increase in price per month usually includes a static IP, ability to run a server and priority service (vs what residential lines get) in case of outage or other interruption.
  16. Run memtest. Burn the iso to a disc and boot off the disc. (choose the free download button) http://www.memtest86.com/ Alternatively, see if your system is any (ken) stabler when using just one stick of RAM over the other. Sorry for nothing special, but if your PC locks up in the BIOS its not too many things. Its usually easier to test memory first.
  17. What version of Windows? What driver version (as shown in Device Manager) for your video card?
  18. Another possibility is that the computer is a formerly from some company.
  19. I want to thank all members who report spam in forums other than GD. Its really helpful.

I think i managed spam for now. Upgrade will come soon. I apologize to everyone.

  20. Sysprep does not remove any user profiles. It disables the Administrator account. If you create a user account in Audit Mode (for example) and the sysprep /OOBE, you'll create your new account, etc. But if you choose to log out of Windows, the other account will be available for you to select. OOBE will always request to create a user account, as that is what it is designed to do. If you don't want to create a user account, you'll have to research on how to do the customizations and then create the new user account using an XML file, and use the CopyProfile function. What are the "settings" you made? It is possible they can be done with the XML as well.
  21. I believe it is likely because Intel peicemeals their hardware components out to ODMs (like Asus, MSI, custom shops) to build boards with their individual components (video, nic, chipset, etc) but all the nVidia and ATI boards I've seen usually contain everything together.
  22. I can't say why it worked on your other PC but there are circumstances where it would. However, most INF files contain instructions on copying files to their destinations but I don't see that in this one. It is failing because it is expecting the files to be present (from the copy) but aren't so it gives the error. So try this: copy the xbcdrc.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers install the INF again
  23. I've not used the Acronis software, but I wonder how many Primary partitions are on your disk now. You should have had 3 with Windows 7 (but not all OEMs do it the same way) and then 1 with Windows 8. If the Acronis software is not smart enough, it may have tried making a 5th or who knows what. It would really be helpful if you had the ability to boot into WinPE or some other thing so we could have you check the disk and BCD settings out. You can try this... take out the HDD, then go into the BIOS. Set the boot order to have Optical drive, then HDD, then whatever. Save and exit. Then when it can't boot you can turn it off. Put in your CD and the HDD back in, turn it on and see if it will boot off the CD that way.
  24. Is there any better information logged in Event Viewer? You can also look at the Windows Update Log, but beware it might be a large file. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093
