  1. Well it may be confusing to me that you bought an Ultrabook which already had its 7 second boot/resume time certified, but then (pretty much) disabled all the Ultrabook features. Now you have a normal notebook (but with an mSATA drive in addition) and are suffering slow boot/resume times. So I guess do you want to restore the Ultrabook config or to just have a normal notebook?
  2. A strange behaviour that I can't seem to figure out how to fix. On multiple hardware (Clevo, Intel) when I do a PXE Boot via UEFI, after the PE loads the screen goes black. If I boot to the same image using a BIOS-based PXE boot, it works fine. The computers are not locked up and the monitor does not go to sleep. I have no video and no mouse cursor either. Has anyone else done any work with PXE boot to WinPE 4 on UEFI? I am using a 64bit WinPE of course.
  3. The unattended sections are primarily for installation of Windows. The other sections are for use of Windows. Windows 98 is not freeware. I can't speak about the member projects.
  4. Ah ok then... I can't find one that can do both with 1 device. Then again, I wasn't able to find any industrial splitters and I'm sure such a thing exists.
  5. The device you are speaking about is an M-SATA drive. As you posted in another thread, your notebook is this: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Superior_Mobility/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX32VD/ That drive is supposed to have 2 partitions on it, one for RapidStart (partition size match the size of memory) as well as another partition for caching. I have only used mSATA drives that connect via the removable mSATA card, not one that is not-removable.
  6. This is an ultrabook! Your drive type should be set to RAID.
  7. I don't know what this post is about, but SkipRearm is deprecated in Windows 8.
  8. Server 2012 is basically the same as 2008 R2. Just make sure you choose to install the Desktop Experience if you are used to using the GUI in 2008 R2 and previous versions of Server.
  9. There seems to be a lot more converters that support the multiple types of connections for HDMI out, rather than in. The SB-2833 looks like its what you want but I don't think that is Composite. Here is something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZKL9O8?tag=155ldkai-20 But I don't think it is a simultaneous output. What device is the HDMI input from?
  10. I merged these topics. No reason to keep making new threads. Here is the link to that ComputerWorld story. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9179109/Microsoft_extends_Windows_XP_downgrade_rights_until_2020

Why can we not seem to do anything to block this recent flood of spam? It has gotten terrible!

  12. How well did you look? Google gave me a ton of results for "HDMI to VGA" ... Anyways, Monoprice has a bunch of ones (for example) but I've not used any of these types of devices so I couldn't recommend any. Just make sure to check reviews, and also verify the correct connectors (Male/Female) match what you need so you don't make a wasted purchase.
  13. After actually using Windows 8 for the first time yesterday on a non-touchy screen, I'm surprised that MS didn't implement better alternative mouse controls. When using any Modern App, the mouse behaves the same as it always has. You should be able to drag the screen around rather than having to rely on scroll bars and what not. Just go look at how the mouse behaves in Google Maps. That would have made a world of difference for non-touch if you ask me.
  14. I have a sneaking suspicion that the official answer would be "You won't have this problem with Server 2012..."
  15. I had considered that... is there a way to disable that again and audit mode still work properly? I might even abandon this AuditSystem thing altogether...
  16. I'm fuzzy on 9x Device Manager. Can you look at properties of the unknown device to see the Hardware ID?
  17. Reminds me of some audio clip or maybe a video about someone who wanted an iPhone, no matter what. Even after being shown an android phone that prints money.
  18. I can test using a stock 2008 functional level (never saw a need for the R2 myself) domain I have here and see if I can recreate. I will be using Windows 8 Pro x64... Order of operations in the spoiler... Using this procedure I am unable to replicate the expected behaviour. Let me know if I did something incorrectly. Note, my testing domain doesn't have any GPOs set on it as it is only used for imaging via WDS.
  19. Max, I used your example to create an unattend to install a program in Audit Mode. I set the logon count to 1, and added a WillReboot to Always. The problem I have is that when you use that AuditSystem pass to create the user, it isn't temporary. I would really prefer that after the Audit Mode work is done, that it reboot back into the built-in Administrator account automatically, then I would need to delete that "Admin" account. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
  20. Examining the generated source for ArsTechnica shows that they use different classes for different versions of IE. And also that if the version of IE is 7 or lower, they use different WordPress theme components.
  21. Well WinPE 3.0 is based on Windows 7 RTM, 3.1 is Windows 7 SP1 and 4.0 is Windows 8. I've noticed that my WinPE4 images are larger in size than the PE3.0 ones. WinPE4 supports more packages, such as PowerShell.
  22. Using the F8 Boot Menu, choose "Disable automatic restart on system failure" to see the BSOD. As seen in this picture: http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u21826/W7-RE02.jpg It looks like you did boot into Windows? How did you see that event log? If you have access to the event log, the bugcheck log should be present.
  23. Actually, it might just be easier to use ProcExp to pause the dllhost.exe process and see how Windows behaves.
  24. Windows 7 (and Vista) uses display names as well as folder names. I encountered some problem with these "virtual containers" when trying to work on a manual file backup. The computer in question ended up (somehow) with 2 Users folders. Only one appeared in Explorer, but 2 of them actually exists. The other one ended up as Users2. I couldn't get the old data merged (time constraint) so the backup data was scrapped and we used Ghost to image the disk for backup. You can see the naming different in this pic: I had made a thread about it here but can't find it.
