Virtual PC 2004 Customization
prathapml replied to SoultakerPT's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yes, using VPC you need to "capture an image" to mount the ISO. Dump VPC - go VMware, its far faster and easier to handle (ISO mounting is easy too). -
do u think common sense is part of our daily life?
prathapml replied to angel0104's topic in General Discussion
Not always! There are some things you do or say, then within a few seconds you get the feeling.... (you know, the feeling that it was foolish to have done so, and just having common sense and waited 5 more seconds would have prevented speaking that way). -
On WinXP, move the .scf to: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
-
Yes, I've seen that... gamehead, there was another thing I saw on various discussion sites and am curious about. What's the deal with tubgirl? (I saw a link to a site, but that site got shutdown - any more info, or do you know where they moved to, or a mirror?)

Two partitions and a friend
prathapml replied to brian873's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Man, don't do this. You'll find it useless actually. If you had "D:\Documents and Settings\Brian" as your user profile, and expect to be back using it - you'll be surprised. After the re-install, when you create a user named Brian (through whatever method you choose), windows will see that the folder it wants to use already exists - so it ends up making "D:\Documents and Settings\Brian.000" --OR-- "D:\Documents and Settings\Brian.COMPUTERNAME"So your old files and settings are not imported. And with every re-install, you get more folders created (Brian.001, Brian.002....). I'm sure that's not what you intended. Just tell them to use some common sense and save all required files in D: partition. And let Docs&Settings stay on C:\ and get cleansed on every re-install. If what you want is to place files in Docs&Settings *EVERYTIME* (for apps configuration), just use the "$OEM$\$Docs\All Users\" folder tree. Hoping this helps.... -
A hint I can give, is that the same reg key that manages the QuickLaunch tweak is the one to use/export after setting this toolbar.

Share your best web links topic-wise
prathapml replied to chankya's topic in Networks and the Internet
done, your topic merged into that one -
You don't necessarily need to remove OOBE. You can disable it from running, through winnt.sif: [Unattended] FactoryMode=yes

Now back on topic, is tip21 in this page what you were referring to?

Charge him your fee (for the time it will take you to convert). After seeing what it will cost him, he should drop the idea!

XtremeMaC, you are mis-understanding what I said... I am an opera user too, and I was saying opera loads pages faster and handles itself better than firefox. Happy? And I'm happy too because you said opera did not crash on that web-page for you. Maybe the reason it crashed for me is that I'm on the Opera8beta2. Anyways, why are we making statements between firefox and opera, both of these are supposed to be allies. The real "enemy" is IE.
-
nope, too many limitations, and then you have to set it up yourself....
-
Yes, but that's analog! MMJB 4 has ripped any number of those so-called protected CDs.... (clue off )
-
Gah! Gmail is promoting bad manners! Do you ever invite yourself to anything other than gmail? haha...

Well, I don't oppose firefox. Anything is better than IE. But I don't like its slowness. Plus, I don't need to go to a deliberate-badly made page for firefox to crash - it will crash just by itself if you use it for long enough. (yes, I mean it - firefox is too much of a kid to handle the load I put it through - approx 300 tabs opened and closed every ten minutes. Firefox simply keeps having a memory leak and eventually crashes, whereas opera keeps going with just 4 MB of mem usage)

These are the characters of members that show up in flame wars. Which of them is you? http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/ Android is nice (I think). I was a Necromancer too (it means grave-digger of old threads). Is Alanoll the Nanny?

So few are downloading maybe because so few understand how it works.... The 40 seconds waiting time might turn away impatient people. And then, you should also remember that you can only download 20 MB every hour from rapidshare (not more than that). NoLogic, have you checked out yousendit.com and youshareit.com for example?

Warning for opera users: Going to that page crashes the browser. :/ CONTEXT: These posts have been split from this thread.

Source: Bink and MSFN news If you've been concerned about the possibility that users in your Windows XP environment might plug in a USB storage key and walk away with hundreds of megabytes of proprietary information, XPSP2 lets you make USB storage devices read only, removing the possibility of leaking data via a USB key. Make sure that you aren't using other USB storage devices such as hard drives or a CD/DVD writer before you set this registry tweak: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; configure USB storage for read only [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies] "WriteProtect"=dword:00000001Copy/paste the text in code block into notepad, save as a file with .REG extension and double-click it to apply the policy.

Gah! We are supposed to be listed there - http://www.big-boards.com/kw/support/. Big-Boards tracks the most active message boards and forums on the web. They have listed 500,000 posts as minimum requirement, but if you see that link you will see that boards with less than that have also been ranked. I submitted msfn today, but if they don't list it I'm mentioning it here so that someone can please remember and submit the forum link again when we cross 500,000 posts.

And that page confirms the thought that "-default" or "-defaultprofile" simply uses the profile created by default (in %appdata%).

Ah, finally morning has come (after 14 days!) (just kidding.... no offense meant)
