  1. Haha... This is cool! An all-out war between win98 and winxp. What was simmering for years now comes to the surface... j/k winxp, go go go! un4given1 - I agree. I still don't see why people are afraid of winxp. I still don't see why they won't dare install SP2. Probably its because of using unlicensed copies, but even then MS has ensured it will work just fine.
  2. Your best bet then is to make an unattended disk. You can install all the apps you want, delete all the icons you want, configure and set it up exactly the way you need, add games or whatever - all in just an hour for each machine. My disk that totals up to almost 4 GB of installs, finishes within 28 mins. If you have a CD-drive on each PC in your lab, you could easily start the install for all of the machines at once and go out for a half-hour of coffee. When you come back its done. read the guide, and also you'll find lot of useful info in this forum.
  3. Yup, that qualifies fine according to the rules.
  4. Get *ORIGINAL* cd/dvd covers from here - cdcovers.cc
  5. Its easy for me as well. And many more things might be easy for us, but the fact remains that for the normal person, firefox extensions unattended is a lot of bother. That's exactly the reason you had to make a guide for it - you wouldn't have made it if it had been easy. With opera, its as simple as a. IF MANUAL - look into the interface b. IF UNATTENDED - configure it, then copy over the modified INI file on new install.
  6. that looks like some addiction to spamming! Please read the posts before replying. He wasn't talking about "sorting" files - unattended was the topic probably. Girkers, welcome to MSFN forums!
  7. He is already using virtualPC - so no worries - no disks wasted. Hello notgrey, Welcome to MSFN forums!
  8. You could either use invisionfree.com which gives you the entire service free, or sign up with a free host that supports PHP/MySQL (like 100webspace.com) and upload your board's files. Or if you have a host that supports PHP/MySQL already, then you could upload to it and configure your forum. If you are running your server yourself (on a 24-hour home connection or if you are a hosting provider), then you could wait a couple of days for my guide on how to setup your own board.
  9. One major reason to install straight from CD is that most of my install packages are SFX compressed - so I could un-rar NAV from CD to a folder on HD straight-away without first copying it to HD - prevents wasting of time. The total time of installing my 4.x gig from disc, is about 28 mins. I found that it took 45 mins when it was needed to copy to hard-disk. So as you see, it was a massive shave-off from time needed for install (it halved!).
  10. Double-post Well, actually what you mean to say is not clear to me.... What you want is easily done with opera AND firefox/mozilla (but firefox is crappy because it is tiring to download a new extension for every **** thing you want to do - and god only save you when you want to install extensions unattended ).
  11. Its been posted BECAUSE it works. Working fine since over a year here.
  12. %CD% = current directory.
  13. Before using a value that specifies 32-bit color, confirm that your video-card can handle it. Older generation (and integrated) chips can do only 16- or 24-bit color. Also, those lines are still of no use if relevant drivers are not there for windows setup to install.
  14. nice tool like nLite for office? buckeye's is already that since so many months. office shrink (buckeye) support for o2k3 SP1 ? its already working fine. Try it again on a clean VM. Here o2k3-SP1 is 40 MB compressed now.
  15. ahemm..... dear "right mind" I also used the words "every ten minutes" there. With opera you can say that you want only XX MB of mem used and no more - useful even when you have half a gig of RAM. Firefox is nowhere close to opera's quality. It has lot of annoying fanboys though. The fanboys show their dedication by rabid talk about it all the time, the supporters show theirs by paying for their copy (and so no ads). Opera happens to be the best there is - and I'd hazard a guess that I know what I'm talking about. Anyways, opera and firefox are not supposed to fight among themselves, gang up against the devil (IE), lol. And its been more than a week since this off-topic discussion was seen - now back on topic pls - paris hilton was what this was about.
  16. If windows has an appropriate driver for your video card, it will automatically do the changing of resolution. If not, it will stop and ask like it does for you. The solution is to integrate your graphics drivers into your uA setup, using OEMpnpDriversPath method in winnt.sif
  17. "net user" is a command obtained from NET.exe - it doesn't allow you to rename built-in accounts. Administrator and guest are built-in accounts. I use netuser.exe to rename both accounts to improve security (because known user accounts is a security hole).
  18. I've said many times the simplest way to have shortcuts imported to a new install, is to have your shortcuts in the same way you want themn to appear - and place them on your uA CD: $OEM$\$Docs\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\ Similarly for desktop, and QuickLaunch, etc.
  19. Errors? Does Office Shrink work fine for you? If that works fine and this doesn't then Charmin Deluxe has some work to do.
  20. A good thumb rule is, if you had a problem with the normal uA install of windows which you weren't able to fix by yourself, then nLite is some distance away for you. Its a good app alright, but what happens is most people blame the problems they had on the nite tool. So if you're likely to have problems, then better not start with it till you're ready (with relevant knowledge). Of course, the *ONLY* downside you could have with using nLite before you're ready, is you might post in the nLite forum with a problem/question that's been answered a hundred times already and get flamed for it. As for what you're asking, reading the guide is really the BEST way to get answers. I'm not sure OEMskipwelcome is a solution, but the below is what works perfectly (you ALSO need the oemskipwelcome to be set): link to page
  21. PLEASE READ THE FIRST PAGE OF THIS TOPIC ! It clearly says do not post your email address here. We do not want spammers harvesting emails from the forum. Either take your pick from the gmail links already posted, or make a post saying you want an invite. Whoever has one will PM you or will post in the thread here itself.
  22. Yeah, its way more powerful, but I doubt that you drive to school in an army tanker - you'd rather use a bike or car. This "dude" is wasting your time if its meant for uA install. Even if its for other purposes, you'd be better off using what something was meant for.
  23. Why do you want to do it using VBS ? Its not an efficient way to do it. link for further reading Rather, take a look through the uA guide, and use either the oobeinfo.ini method (easy) or the "net user" commands (powerful).
  24. Of course. Here's links to pages that describe how to make your own package - one, two. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
  25. This happens because its an MSI advertised shortcut, not actual.... It might be far easier to use the quick installing package from here - http://ryanvm.net/msfn/. That's the one made specifically for unattended installs. Its switchless too, so no switches needed just directly execute it. Oh, and are you using a non-English version? If so, then we'll try a different method.
