Haha I do remember having seen these - but thanks for posting it so that it makes its way into my digital collection of jokes. (else it was strips of paper cut out of books and newspapers...) Posted here for those too lazy to click links:

So now, whom does "you" here refer to? The woman or the male friend? The answer depends on that.

Having Difficulties Silently Installing Forceware.
prathapml replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in Device Drivers
Known problem. Stick to v66.93 (WHQL, approved drivers) and you'll be fine. -
Thanks for the submission Zaheer! Software News has been updated with this version, and this thread being moved to Technology News section. I agree, this is normally the case. And anyone finds it difficult to wade through 10 pages and more - its difficult to read, as well as to keep loading one page after another. May I suggest what I do? Take a look at the print function of the forum. You see this at the top-right of every topic: If you click the print link, you will get a new page with the entire content with all posts on one huge HTML page. This you can now save to a folder somewhere and read at your leisure whenever you have time. Let me confess I do this and some topics take 2 hours to read - but its never been a waste of time as by the end of it I've learnt a lot along the way.

It has been 7 years since Win98 was released
prathapml replied to un4given1's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Those that have to pay for their OS won't be bothered by such small issues which can be fixed easily. Its mostly the home crowd that gets everything free, which sticks up on superficial matters.... By your own admission, that statement should mean that linux misses something?Try getting a corporate to agree to dual-boot. The one in charge of security would die of horror. There's a defined set of requirements. WinXP fulfils all those while win98 doesn't. No one means to say that microsoft's efforts on getting XP out, and later, on the massive SP2 update, are a pile of wasted time, do they? Also, longhorn is mostly XP. -
As a matter of fact, there's no desktop windows OS to beat XPSP2's security. Incorrect. File-system and memory handling are totally different issues.

All you need to do is neutralise HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ctfmon.exeA .reg file with a "-" (dash) value for relevant key can do it.

How to Load the raid for 64bit XP without Floppy
prathapml replied to zhenxy's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
The procedure cannot possibly be all that different from the 32-bit version. Look in the device drivers section here for a detailed guide which tells you how to do it. -
I beg to differ. Used v4 and now v5 as well. With v5, came up with an autorun like lukar's within 5 minutes - and this was a year ago.

I have seen new comers complain its too advanced! So which of the two opinions is wrong?Neither. In fact, its been so well made that newbies and power users both instantly feel at home. It would be nice to see how many of those who threaten to move to linux actually stay with it. Most just move back to windows within a month at most.I do work on the linux platform, and believe me its a wonderful OS - for the server. If used with graphical interfaces on the desktop, it becomes just as crashy and in fact slower and more memory-consuming than windows. -
Hello UrMagination, Welcome to MSFN! We hope you too will contribute to the bank of information we have attempted to build up here.

Exactly my point. XP is not at all costly especially if you look at XP home. As such, those choosing an older version just because of the price are shooting themselves in the foot. $80. 4 years of operation. Come on.... $20 per year is soooo low-cost for what you get! As for those who feel a loss of pride in not using XP Pro, let it be known that pro has all the features that the normal user doesn't need. The home edition has all that win98 gives and more, added in with stability and the assurance of being a supported OS.... what more could one want? -
err.... Its a pinned topic in Unattended Windows forum.

Does the NT 4.0 work properly in a real machine? Only in VPC/vmware its giving this error? god is in the details and the info that you provide....

Totally free way to support win98 on a full-fledged scale is not possible. Win98 will necessarily need a fat16/32 partition to itself (installation of itself, I mean). Now, to support ntfs from DOS is simple enough - winternals.com has a freeware tool for read-only support and (commercial) NTFSDOS Pro for read/write. Paragon NTFS is an app which allows fully graphical file-system driver - it mounts your NTFS partition to the required drive-letter. After that it works like a normal fat32 partition with full read/write.

You mean XP Pro?A retail of it costs $158 where I live.... Home Edition is cheaper still, about half the cost. Most who are used to win98 are moving to XP home. -

1. your key (or a key you got freely) is in thabove code chunk, please remove it. 2. Please use CODEBOX tag for very large amounts of code as in above. -
How about posting this in an already existing thread, for discussion. Moreover, the already mentioned solutions do work.... The above regtweak is not working because of the ill-placed line breaks * thread closed.

I get what you mean... but the forum has grown to become so big that one person cannot do that. And if 10 people have to do that, you have to give them a good reason or motivation for it.... And then there's the point of what happens if after everything's been sorted, again people post everything in the wrong places? We do our best to keep it clean and threads sorted properly... beyond that probably the members have to take an active interest in things themselves and not post eighty times about the same old issue which got resolved ages ago!
