  1. That's true, cartoonite. Its easy to attach the new file, or to make a new thread. But lot of ppl take that to be an official confirmation, and use the ENTIRE tweaks file. Invariably that ends up applying tweaks they did not intend to, and they post errors and other so-called "problems". Also, it seems like many of the attached files in this thread haven't yet had their new tweaks make their way into the new tweaks file. And then, I intend to put up my tweaks file as well. And that might take some time to merge and remove similarities, as my personal tweak file is over 300 KB. The attached tweak file SHALL stay as it is, for now. For an updated version, use glent's updated file from second post attachment.
  2. Right. And that fact was not at all hidden, I linked to it myself. The specs are the same even for the initial release. Now try finding a docu that quotes min. specs for the initial XP release.
  3. For fun! Yes, really! I started doing that (the dance of clean install) when my PCs would give trouble (as in boot-problems, crashes...). Then afterwards, did it for the sake of testing out uA installs. Now, I don't quite need that much testing, but still I do the same just for the heck of it. (because windows slows down very quickly with my kind of usage and downloads, etc. - so a re-format serves as a good way to flush out all the junk). Moreover my optimized uA makes it easy for me - 5 GB installed from the disc in just 28 minutes, so I start uA when I have to go and have a quick tea, and before I'm back its done! I'm not joking!
  4. Right, you can. That method is mostly good for apps that don't make much use of the windows registry (which translates into most small apps). Much more detailed information for that: see installer type #4 (green text) Also, the above quote which you took has been updated - look in this thread: LINK
  5. HAHA! fantastic one! I wonder if the kid ever managed to recover the files he deleted.
  6. I use that tweak to CHANGE from system-managed to custom in unattended mode. So if system-managed is what one wants, changing is not needed at all as that is the default anyway! The VBS is provided by Microsoft for CHANGING from default to CUSTOM. It takes only integers, therefore specifying 0 (zero) makes it assume you want to remove the pagefile totally.
  7. link to slashdot page where opera8 release is being bashed by firefox users
  8. You are probably talking of server error messages (as in 404, 403, 500, etc.)In that case, just use errordocument directives in a .htaccess file. The other possibility has to be fixing the bugs, as suppressing errors that the script is not running properly is simply illogical (and not possible, probably). It either works, or it doesn't - there's no intermediate state - under unchanged server conditions, there's no reason why a visitor should suddenly face an error!
  9. Well, I just prefer using what's already built-in. 3rd party apps are a _slight_ bit of pain....
  10. My old posts all over the board is littered with mentions of Opera. Maybe you might find these threads an interesting read to know more about opera? thoughts for the sick-of-IE Opera and Firefox 1 .... two .... three In short: - goddamn lot of features - extremely tight-coding so that its not bloated - security - web standards truly supported to the max. - infinite customisability. - speed. Its mostly targeted at the power user. Noobs get intimidated by it - which is fine by the primary audience of Opera because: - the noob needs no features, the smallest change serves only to scare him anyway - its unlikely he'll pay (because he does not see the value in the product) Introduction screenshots how secure is it questions about switching to opera Why Opera ? Why I love Opera Why choose the Opera Internet Suite? Why I prefer Opera over Firefox Email clients need a kick to the head ........ But here's how the email managing dilemma got solved - Opera's integrated M2 mail/chat/RSS/News reader
  11. Rambler, yes there is a way. Your pagefile has to be a minimum of 2 MB on your systemdrive, for the reason that a memory dump on crashing would need that much atleast. Now, it seems that if you disabled that from "startup and recovery" (found in system properties), then the 2 MB is not needed. But supposedly, doing this is dangerous. Why not just assign 2 MB on the systemdrive and howevermuch you want on any other partition? Also, limiting pagefile to very low levels on systemdrive can lead to performance slow-downs. The best thing to do is to just keep your page-file on the * drive (unless you have multiple HDs, in which case locating swap elsewhere would give a significant difference in performance).
  12. Valid question, and wraith has worked hard to make it be better than just for UI alone. I can't really say what all is there, but off the top of my head, these: - the XML is quick and easy to update, and can be validated (to check for errors) by opening in MS Word 2003 or something.... - user-selectable items and still automatic progression (if you want it) - the plug-in nature means that new plugins adding new functionality would be somewhat simple (provided someone was willing to do it) - file-operations and other things get a faster moving (maybe its just my imagination that XPlode copies files faster than .BAT scripts, but who knows.....) - the functions of tokens, and delayed execution, and so on.... The sky's the limit if you take just 10 minutes to have a look at the example XML files that come with XPlode 4 - just take a look, and soon enough you'll be brimming with ideas, that are positively not do-able thru any other method. I've been happy with XPlode (and its predecessor XPinstall) and its power, since a year, and that's really saying something, I guess. (maybe since I'm not easily satisfied....) But then, I am on XPlode 1.00 still! So its certain lots more things have come in with recent versions.
  13. Oh my...... Don't think its too complex! You might as well join the party. You know basic html ain't it? That is all you really need to know, for starters. A set of tags, and these are opened and closed, and each set is nested inside an <item> tag. Power with simplicity...
  14. Hmm... registered alright. And hey, I have given your userid as the referrer (yes yes.... I know what's your userid there ). That's okay right? It only gives 100 MB, btw.
  15. First - "X" and "X lib" are different things. So be careful when you post, and don't take shortcuts, else no one can understand what you're saying. Well, so anyways.... RH9 already has what you want. Just confirm that you have all 3 CDs with you. 1. Login as root, to the GNOME desktop. 2. Now go into the system menu, and launch the package management (also maybe listed as "Add/Remove") 3. Look under the "Graphics" sub-heading, and click details. 4. you'll find a package called "Image Magick", put a check next to it. 5. Commit the changes, the package manager asks you to insert the appropriate disc, and installs the requested package, along with any dependencies. You're done with it. No need to bother with X-lib, compiling and "./configure" and "make" and all that. BUT, if you still want to mess with the latest version of ImageMagick and compile it, then from the same package manager mentioned above, go to the "Development" sub-heading, and install X-lib (these are needed for compiling X apps). Now assuming that you already have GCC installed, your compilation should move smoothly from here on.
  16. * Moved to here.
  17. how many times can the same topic be raised.... browser wars really is not interesting enough to need 40 threads in a space of 6 months.... :ZZZZZzzzzz:
  18. Is it free? http://www.spymac.com/hosting/ Doesn't seem to be... * topic moved to correct forum
  19. No I did not make them, and I even forgot the source.I just know its dialogs made in VB.... should be quite easy to make
  20. When have you ordered yours? Was it the 5.04 release? Then try reading the shipit FAQ page for details of when they will ship to your location. And also, being in India, I haven't got mine yet either. Allow it 4-6 weeks (or more, for the sin of living in India ) and it should come through. Oh, and try logging in and check out if they already dispatched your order. Maybe Customs department held it up - in that case you have to pay the customs duty yourself and get it home. It won't be much, considering the duty for 100 CDs was 800 rupees only. Also, expecting them to pay that charge would be too much, since they are already taking care of the software and the discs and the packaging and the shipping and the delivery...... And hey, considering that you say you ordered it long ago, if you come across more such offers, do give posting it here a thought. Thanks! : Haha, thanks for mentioning it dman!I don't even need the goading, just gimme some time and I shall run through it. By the way, is anyone here interested in getting Linspire 5.0 ? I could fetch an offer, of a free digital download, through coupons. Totally legitimate too (remember Linspire is a paid-only product). A 2 MBps download from their servers, of the full and latest release (one ISO). For your information, Linspire is the same linux-distro maker that got sued by Microsoft, they were formerly known as Lindows. Anyone interested?
  21. Nah, that's seriously bad. Keep the screenshots, and get ppl interested enough, to learn things. Else they'd never really bother finding out about things. Computing became too easy for consumers.
  22. Of course its possible.Fix the actual CAUSE of these errors - look into the coding and fix bugs if any. Or if there's no bugs, probably your php file needs php4 and you have installed php5 (this is because many apps still are not compatible with php5).
  23. How is this related to web dev forum?
  24. where does perl come into this? You need to tell what software this is, what linux distro this is, and any other required details, to really get an informed answer. btw, configure is nothing but an executable shell script. No packages needed, except to confirm that the bourne shell (bash) is present, to interpret it. And the "make" command is actually a compilation command. You need GCC (the GNU C Compiler) and associated packages installed.
  25. instead of a bat file, use a .REG file, and apply it thru regedit. regedit /S filename.reg
