ThemeXP.org hasn't been bad at all - lots of visual styles, wall paps, and others that I got from there - and no problem at all. And I dare say that I know to detect spyware/adware when I see one, and have tools that do it as well. BTW, the first post here looks a lot like another post elsewhere a few weeks ago..... Somebody seems to be going around canvassing REJECTION for themexp.org.

Opera for all purposes, except for Windows Update. And, its amazing how a poll like this keeps coming up every month or so. Try searching and you see so many topics discussing the same - which browser you use or which is your fave......

How To: 95 and 98 Setup Answer File
prathapml replied to Randy Rhoads's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Most people who have "borrowed" a win95/98/ME CD from a friend or vendor or have bought a CD at very under-cost-of-license - these are the copies which are OEM/retail. You don't find nearly as many copies of retail CDs in circulation. So that's the round-about and diplomatic reply to mazin's post above. -
Hmm..... Not joking again mazin. Yes, it is INSTALLDIR. But since I don't use it much (because it doesn't support environment variables, it only wants absolute paths), I don't remember it exactly. This will work perfectly: Discard the other single-file setup which you originally downloaded, its not needed now.

.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
prathapml replied to OutTrendz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
OK, in fact I like 7zip - it gives extremely good compression (therefore huge space savings) in most cases. But I still feel somewhat shackled with it. RAR sfx'es are much more well-featured. 7-zip doesn't give SFX icon choosing, authenticity verification, the winrar shell extension, recovery record, and lots more. -
No, the autorun.inf is just for CD-autorun. You can run the same program shown in the autorun - that is not going to install the drivers. The easiest thing to do is to get the latest version of each of these drivers, and then they'll have INF files. Then just use the "OEMPnpDriversPath" method mentioned in the MSFN official unattended guide.

How To: 95 and 98 Setup Answer File
prathapml replied to Randy Rhoads's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
That's exactly what it is.I've said so before - some CDs are able to go ahead silently and some stop at those screens (but with the info filled-in). A retail CD is able to go through the entire way silently - the OEM CDs and upgrade CD (which are what circulate among most people) stop at the user info and product-key screen. -
90% done w/uanntended project.
prathapml replied to AznStyl's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
This will remove "set program Access and Defaults" off the start menu: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "Start_ShowSetProgramAccessAndDefaults"=dword:00000000 If your Start Menu is showing in classic mode, you probably have this in your winnt.sif, remove it: [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff=Yes -
The problem (that is happening to your vmware install) is that you have used both switches for install - "/QB" and "/QN". You should use only one of those. Also, let it install where it wants to - or specify exact pathnames - because the "TARGETDIR" property seems to be unable to use system variables like "%systemdrive%". You can either change that particular one to "TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files\VMware" or not use that property at all. Fixing those 2 things will make it install smoothly.

.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
prathapml replied to OutTrendz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Right. But there's very specific conditions under which its good to use. 7-zip is not easy - neither to make the archive nor to extract it to where you want. @bucketbuster You can get the trial version of winrar from here - WinRAR home-page link. That is itself sufficient to do what we need to here. @Sheik Right-click on "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\MUI\0409\mscorier.dll" and check the file-version. (there was somewhere on the first page of this topic, a post about version numbers with and without SP1 by RyanVM) -
Has someone heard "Free Virtual PC Software"?
prathapml replied to argon007's topic in Software Hangout
I agree with that, although I thought this thread was about "Free Virtual PC Software". Such a pity that this one's only for the PC-related emulators - otherwise one could have mentioned a few Macintosh emulatiors as well. -
As far as cyber romances are concerned - that does not seem too appealing. It will not work out much, and you may not know each other very well (I think). For friendships, I'd say "cyber" (the Internet) is as good a place/medium as any. Many honest people are found on the net, and I do know that I've made some good friends online.

You can use the "rdesktop" client - its an XFree86 dependant program which won't require any of the other GUI widget libraries to be installed. Other than that, some VNC clients for the linux platform also have the capability to connect to Windows Remote Desktops. @SimonSays If your order has been accepted, you'd have been sent a confirmation email to the address you gave while registering. @Famer Did you order it from that same site, (for free) and how many days did it take for delivery of the DVDs?

Looks like you have been victim of some mis-information......There's NO AGP 16x - and no proposals of one either. The AGP slot peters out at the v3.0 standard (which is 8x). All graphics cards beyond that will have to move to PCI-Express. The PCI-X standard used on some Intel-based servers have a very high bandwidth slot (x16). That's what you are confusing with the graphics.... LOL, I'm gonna steal your line now XtremeMaC : You need a good vacation (been getting confused a lot recently). (just kidding, no offence meant)

program ideas
prathapml replied to tap52384's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
OK cool it dudes. Suggest a name is what he has asked for. I suppose he is making it for the learning experience or for himself, so all the functionality already being present is no matter. -
Same as mazin here - got WinAmp and am happy with it (atleast on windows, I'll wake up to it the day foobar has a linux release ).

I'm happy that you joined up in the party as well, wasim. BTW, I'd still recommend you to follow the same policy - let whoever wants an invite post his request here, and then PM you. Then you post in the thread that "user_name"s invitation has been sent. That way, we can ensure that people don't PM ten of us for invites and get all of them - if ppl PM 10 of us and get as many invites, they are depriving 9 others of the same. So please do not make it a PM-only request policy.

What mainboard chipset is present on that PC? And try the latest Catalyst drivers now (v4.8), download from here - http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html.

I would say check for compatibility once. Put the CD in the drive, and in the autorun that comes up, choose "Additional tasks" and run a compatibility analysis - that will tell what hardware and software if any (that exist on your machine) are incompatible. Helps to a certain distance in knowing what's wrong.

I'd take nVidia any day - wide availability, and at various price-points too (which are worth the price you pay at mainstream/low-end sections of the market). And they are the technology leaders anyway, so you have no way of them falling backward.

Microsoft Will Ship Pared-Down Longhorn in 2006
prathapml replied to Synapse's topic in Windows Vista
That's known since a long time. WinXP and (more so) longhorn are going to shipped as componentized OSes - various versions will be released with/without various features. -
No, I don't work for/in google. @XtremeMaC Invitation sent. Do let us know what it looks like and what you think of it,

Was seeing "The Day After Tomorrow" - the movie. My....... Its good! Nice movie, and picturised very well. Direction, acting and the graphics were good. Especially how they show that those events affect our normal every-day life. My only thought at the end was, "We seem to be becoming darker and darker about our own perception of the future". Consider Twister, Volcano, Independance Day, and the others of their genre - bleak depiction.

.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
prathapml replied to OutTrendz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
First check that the folder you are going to compress has only 3 objects - 2 folders and one MSI. (you can have the few KB sized install.exe if you need it) Then just compress this set into a RAR with "Compression method" drop-down box set to "Best" and "Solid Archive" checked. -
Each account on Gmail gets about 1 or (some more) invites a random time after registering (maybe a few hours/days/months before you get invites to give others). People are still trying to find out on what basis you get invites - is it on usage/activity/random/what???????? There is no trial or something of the sort (I think). You're either signed-up or you are not, that's all, LOL. @XtremeMaC if you do want to sign-up to Gmail, PM me your current e-mail address to which you need the invitation sent.
