  1. I think a post is going to come up in a few hours saying "all of that is fine, but I still want my gmail". Its too **** good and too **** gives you brag-rights, that you can overlook those factors above. In any case, I doubt google will become the sort of monster that is feared - even if they do, remember that modern society is all about trust. You trust that the guy next-door won't blast a grenade in his house and bring down yours as well. You trust that any company worth its salt will not subject you to things you don't want, and try to keep you happy - since only that will gain market-share and keep up reputation. Google's good enough and proved their reliability, I'd say.
  2. Right about that buddy. And, I was thinking...... We already have windows and office shrinker programs here on MSFN, maybe someone will see this thread and make a nero componentized shrinking app, for the use of others - who knows?
  3. Please search in the forums - its already been discussed before. Also, this question is slightly off-topic for this thread. So you might like to start a new thread regarding it. Anyway, since it is just the reverse of combining, you should see the threads that discuss how to combine all 5 CDs.
  4. What the heck....... I want it. What's the page address to see info about it or download it?
  5. @tiredoflogins You have been sent one as well! Check the mail-box address you gave. BTW, I've been registered with rediff as well since 3 years (and some months). They only recently upgraded mail-box capacities to compete with Gmail. But somehow, I find rediffmail incomparable with Gmail.
  6. Hey man, no worries - you can use the main order site and register for ordering those discs. That limited special offer is only for IT Pros who need to get this.
  7. Thanks for mentioning. Added it to the list.@tak Well, that link you have in your post above - seems good, but its only for the AIM protocol. The others who use other IMs can't use that tool. Hopefully you (or someone else) will come acroos a tool that has thiis feature exposed to them.
  8. Well, I said 15 percent reductin in size - not in terms of number of MBs occupied on HDD.
  9. Please do not. He has already done whatever hacks is needed. I'm happy with the forums as it is, and really, the admins know what is good for the boards. I don't think I need any other feature/hack now at all. Let the admins do what is best according to them. But crahak, please get back on topic, and let's hear comments about the site posted in the first-post. Most of the things you find in that site's forum are currently at IPB 2.0 PF3 default settings. So, just try out that place and enjoy the newer version.
  10. Well then famer, do post that you want gmail if you want it. Lots of people love the gmail service for loads of reasons (please see my posts at the beginning of this thread about what is good about gmail). All that can be said is - you're welcome to pick up a gmail account if you want to, and see what's in it for yourself. You do fulfil the condition that gamehead and I have decided upon, anyway (atleast 1 week on MSFN, atleast 50 posts to your credit). @Famer check your PM box. EDIT: Famer has been sent a gmail invite as well.
  11. You can check it up yourself at the IPB makers' home page. I'd say maybe 2 months before its final and we have it up and running here.
  12. Really? Why? Other than perhaps security issues or bug fixes, it's not like a user will be forced from 1.3.1 --> 2.0 when it is final, no? Ha ha ha...... MSFN is tops - see this thread - proves my hunch that we'll be moving to IPB 2.0 dudes. I like it.
  13. Yes, that is one thing to consider - for an archive (the office 2003 installation) compressed to the maximum, the 7zip archive was 15% smaller than the RAR. Sometimes though, the 15% difference is negligible enough to opt for a winRAR SFX instead - the RAR SFX is more fully-featured.
  14. A vote from here too in favour of that step, going forward.Have the elections results been declared yet? Which candidate wins in this thread? Is it v5.04 or v5.05 ? Maintaining two MSIs simply doesn't make the cut - too much complication to remember which one had which bugs fixed. And in any case, we'd like to have the latest available - and who cares when the exclusivity is in favour of the latest ? (all would be happy). Please take your time to release the new MSI - there's no hurry to sideline anything else...
  15. @CypherBit Great to hear that it works fine - you've literally put up a mini-howto on reducing nero install in the post above. As for the files deletion thing, I'd expect that replacing (with 0-byte files) any other files than the below on XPSP2 US-English should cause problems (like it did when you removed OCX'es): In plain language (for everybody), the list above is about files safe to delete from the installer (but your mileage may vary ). As is clear from cypherbit's How-To (in the post above), the maximum benefit (and least loss) is from cleaning out the Redist folder.
  16. Please don't post any more suggestions here - this thread is about the rules...... Here's where your suggestions have been posted, and the matter is closed atleast until the next version of our forum software is released and implemented (another 2 months maybe) - A good idea from some forum members We'll see about it after that. The chapter about suggestions is closed - only rules here.
  17. LOL, symantec themselves.I saw that info and me and and a few others have been spreading that idea since many months. The point is that it (when extracted) works perfectly with NAV 200x versions. But the SAV versions have a hiccup. Hoping that all you guys get that process working, and please give details of what you did to solve it.
  18. These are the people who've been sent invites, check your Personal Messages please.... - tak - riZz As alanoll said, atleast you're past that one week mark. Please note that this doesn't mean that people who've not posted much on the forums will also get invites - the above two have been helpful on the forums, so a slight relaxation - but we immediately raise the bar back to 50 posts. If you've received the invite, and registered it, please come back to this thread, and say so, and edit your post to remove the email address. You just need to click on the invite link provided for registration (in IE/firefox).
  19. I guess famer here already has gmail - he was trying to help - do tell if you need one. As for tak, has alanoll sent you an invite, or what? I'd like to ask that whoever is sending invites to those who have requested in this thread - should post saying that an invite has been sent to user XYZ (for example) - so that multiple people don't end up inviting the same person.
  20. that shock was justified, LOL
  21. eagle, holy cow!!! That's awesome!! Invites already....
  22. done. added that to the list too!
  23. WOW. I've fantastic news here. The limit for printing threads has been raised to 1000 posts (from 300 previously). You might literally be able to see me jumping up and down with joy! I'm finally able to print everyone of those monstrously big threads and not be concerned about whether all the posts are present. Try printing the "Hotfixes for WinXP SP1", "Registry Tweaks...", "XPinstall" threads. Each one of them print right upto the last post - its perfect. Thanks a million to the Admin. (Going overboard with happy emoticons....). Actually, I'm not actually going to "print" it - I use that function to save all 90 or so pages of posts on the topic as one single HTML file - really useful there to read the topic offline.
  24. That's nice dude. Could all you people who visit this thread add to this list of third-party IM clients for yahoo/MSN, and multi-protocol IM suites when you come across any? 1. Trillian - known to be the best multi-protocol IM client for windows (but commercial) 2. gAIM - a good cross-platform open-source multi-protocol client 3. aMSN cross-platform client for MSN 4. Gilly Messenger 5. Ur Messenger 6. Miranda IM - opensource and multi-protocol 7. Messenger 2 - multi-protocol IM client
  25. Hey, Lolly's been the first one here to mention an Alienware-built PC. Go there dudes, and fetch yourself an "Area-51" machine - if price is no issues.
