i already start the project under name "Win2k GUI hack's" is quite a past 3 months ago (before i really busy with my college work's), and now maybe i will stop the project development for a weeks or maybe 2 cause i need to study for my mid-semester exam (next week), also i have a project (medical application using Delphi and MySQL) for my final exam (3 months again) thanks for dirtwarrior from being nice tester and friend, also XPero for permission of his shell32.dll after all thanks for you all, i will be online everyday but really i will stop that project for a weeks

create a 7zip/winrar silent and switchless installer for that apps, or maybe you could go with some system files hacking (shell32.dll hack)

you mean me? lol i hope gurgelmeyer will finish up usp 5.5 extreme in next 3 months so i can recheck the pack in that version (i have checked on usp 5.1 and it look close enough to stable, except the skinning engine)

@-I- A: stable? guess it not maybe we could go with windows blind B: yes it was, WinSkin based on ShellWM project that are OpenSource (shellwm.sourceforge.net now the site is dead) other things are simply hacked by Reshack also win2k theme didn't support titlebar skinning or anything, it just support 3d-effect and color scheme things on windows metric, if you mean you can implementing msstyle theming engine from whistler (xp/2k3) in win2k, please tell me how @dirt that is only a hack version of shellwm 0.7 so it's not that stable and yes it only take a few ram instead that windows blind, the most problem is the source code is fully in C/C++ and i can't understand for that now, i only middle level programmer that always do application programming on Pascal, Java (cause the similarity syntax with C didn't mean i can understand C that fast), Delphi and Visual Basic, maybe somedays i will port that code to programming language i can understand and maybe i will decide to use CustomEye source (ShellWM is based on CustomEye) @for all for now rather than discuss about WinSkin (that only a test) lets go to another win32 system files hack, what files are currently need some icon/bitmap change?

i have interest in OS modding especially Windows 2000 things cause there isn't win2k (for short) gui mod available for now yesterday XPero give me some permission to use his shell32.dll icon and maybe some other files if i ask him further, now i decide to make something like XPize but natively for win2k OS named X2K (Windows eX2Kerience) my project goal is currently on 3 months for the 1st final release version (based on my previous project) feature's : - new win2k bootlogo - new win2k start and taskbar (using alternate shell, currently use AstonShell) - new win2k window metric (titlebar,close,min,max button, currently use WinSkin an apps based on ShellWM) - new win2k shell icon (using XPize shell32.dll, currently done with XP shell32.dll) - new win2k logo and bitmap - new Alt-Tab replacement - more... taskbar? you mean a bar with start button and tray button lol if you're xp : try to add visual theme, don't forget to add a patch version of uxtheme.dll if you're win2k/9x/me : grab some registry hack to change the color scheme

maybe you can ask the people in Hotstream forum such as Gurgelmeyer (creator of Windows 2000 Unofficial Service Pack), he know much about win2k. and maube he could make a patch version of that such dll on his next version USP

i think i will share it to everybody here : for the present my pack consist of : - shell32.dll (xp icon), - ntoskrnl.exe (xp like boot logo), - msgina.dll (new logo for login box, xp like), - sysdm.cpl (monitor image in system properties) - explorer.exe (taskbar menu and some string in windows explorer) - browseui.dll (xp toolbar icon, missing some and dither in big icon) - display.cpl (monitor for wallpaper, screensaver, setting dialog) i have repack (but i lost the installer version) of my w2k gui hack, this is very experimental so don't expect to much for this release, hope you have interest on it and fix it http://rapidshare.de/files/18715215/Pack.7z.html packed with 7zip hope you know how to extract it known bug : - explorer taskbar lock feature doesn't function(explorer.exe) - sometime you can't right click on taskbar(explorer.exe) - missing back,forward,search and etc icon in explorer/ie toolbar (browseui.dll) i think it placed somewhere else - the big icon toolbar are dithered with pink line (browseui.dll) - bootlogo seem doesn't right to display, need to resave and recompress to rle (ntoskrnl.exe) - monitor in display properties seem wrong (desk.cpl) - missing msgina.dll file , but i have included the new ntlogo - other... PS : - have add a new nt logo and bootlogo - test it with vmware or virtual pc before test to your main installation

yes it fixed in win2k server/advance server/data center, this why some company still use win2k for server use and rather than try to mess your windows, better grab a win2k server/advance server edition than go with nlite to customize it (removing server stuff and etc) and voila you got a stable version of win2k i just remember about win2k3 conversion pack to xp, maybe we can do something like that in win2k

@Gurgelmeyer i think you must build a something like roll-up version so you didn't have to upload a BIG files only if you update some or maybe think about byte patcher that can compare byte between a two big files and then you upload the patcher version me, still waiting for USP 5.5 Extreme

download usp5.1 that already included ie6.0 sp1 and slipstreaming it using nlite

this is why the reason why windows 2000 is not for gaming-use, it has a bug (which can't be fixed i think or M$ too lazy to fix it?) in virtual memory things, in otherhand M$ seem improve/fixed this on server and advance server edition of windows 2000 (who need it if you just a home user???)

i use usp51 slipstreamed win2k cd with nlite and i don't have any bug, if the boot order is correct try to remake your windows custom source

i get interest with puppy linux, after i test DSL i get something uncomfortable, that cause the application that included in DSL are really basic app, i need some app that can read ms word(.doc) file like abi word and more app to play with, after several search of mini linux i found puppy linux would suitable what i need. but now there are several varian puppy linux distribution (noticed chubby puppy, pizzapup, grafpup, meanpup, etc) so if anyone known some info about each puppy varian distro please write it here, for example what i mean is kind like this : thanks

yap edit browseui.dll and you might found 6 bitmap for the toolbar (3 for big and 3 for small icon) the last 2 of each can be at same color res, btw grab windows 98 revolution pack (full or lite) by Tihiy to patch it
