    THE TEST

...and we always thought "AMD is the better value"...
  2. Install a new fan if you find the stock one insufficient.
  3. DirectShow GraphEdit + ffdshow + ffvfw + some other codecs. Harder to setup, but you can do things like convert one file into several different files of different codecs at the same time with the right arrangement of filters. Probably as close to "full control" as possible. This is what I use.
  4. ...he doesn't want skinning programs... Resource-editing the files will work... as well editing the code directly (you have to know some programming / reversing). BTW the Min,Max,Close, etc. buttons are contained within the MARLETT.TTF font file, you could edit that if you wanted them to look different.
  5. Try http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=53927 then.
  6. Those are built-in user accounts that come with every Windows installation.
  7. Could you just reinstall Windows over itself? This normally keeps existing software intact.
  8. Provide more information on your hardware? I'd remove PCI cards one at a time until the problem disappears, then that is probably what is causing it. Resetting BIOS setting might help as well.
  9. 1. Rightclick on Desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Advanced, ... you can change a lot of colors and font settings there. 2. A bad floppy may be the cause. Google FlopTool for a set of free utilities to work with floppy disks. You might be able to recover the data. 3. Serverside scripting mechanism for web pages. 4. Google. 5. Google, "virus database" in particular. Antivirus company sites have them.
  10. I use a FlashGet v1.50, I find it very good piece of software. It's been in use for over 2 years now and I haven't had any problems with it. I've modded mine to handle up to 255 simultaneous downloads from 255 simultaneous connections each. I can easily saturate the 100mbps connection
  11. Is your BIOS setup configured to boot from the CD-ROM first? Otherwise it won't even try.
  12. If the MSFN administrator posted the download link it must be legal, otherwise he wouldn't have posted it. Edit: downloading right now... nice speeds from Microsoft servers (500KB/s! )
  13. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=53927 Hope this helps.
  14. There's a program (not free) called 98lite that will do this somewhat, but if you want to do it manually then the install process basically contains a bunch of script INF files that you can edit with a text editor. Details at http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=53927
  15. What's starting up along with Windows? Disable some unused services and check the Run keys in the registry.
  16. If the disk activity is heavy, the problem is probably with the hard drive. Try defragging it.
  17. DOSNTFS disk will be faster and easier to make than a BartPE... and it serves the same purpose. If your system partition happens to be FAT32, then it's even easier. Any DOS bootdisk will be able to read it. After booting to a command prompt you can copy the file back.
  18. They'll both run on your system - I've tried XP Pro on a Pentium 166 with 64Mb of RAM, but the performance won't be that good. nLite will help, but 9x OSs are still somewhat faster. I would recommend a downgrade to 98SE (which is actually *better* in many ways) with Unofficial SP 2.1. It'll be very stable and fast.
  19. It can also run Linux! http://www.dslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
  20. Do it manually from the DOS prompt. Just rename your existing explorer.exe and copy the 95 one into the Windows directory, then run WIN to start Windows with the new shell.
  21. DMA enabled for the HDD? What is the CPU usage when it's playing?
  22. How did you know he has an HP??
  23. Disable video overlay and hardware acceleration. This will make your system *very* slow when rendering video, but if the colors return then there is something wrong with your graphics card drivers.
  24. Your BIOS has the dual and single-channel mode reversed. When it said "single channel", it was actually running in dual channel, and when it says "dual channel" it's actually in single-channel mode. A small error on the part of the programmer.
  25. I think you meant "signing"?? I was expecting something more related to sound...
