  1. This should have been your first warning. Your bios definitely does not support 48 bit lba access. You do have a simple solution though. Get hold of an external USB casing for your hard disk. Make sure it is set as master. All partitions & files will be visible. Make sure the case does support 48-bit LBA - there's a thread in the hardware section of someone who has 48-bit LBA support in his machine's BIOS, but not in the external case.
  2. This is what I call a programming competition.
  3. The hard drives will last longer at lower temperatures. Also, most high-speed drives (10,000+ RPM) generate so much heat that they will overheat if not actively cooled. I have a 15K RPM server drive that got hot enough to melt slightly the plastic coating on the desk it was sitting on while being formatted.
  4. The controller of the external case does not support 48-bit LBA.
  5. Does that appear at boottime? If so, your HDD is probably going to die soon. Otherwise, I know some trojans that will produce fake warnings like that.
  6. It seems some imports are missing, you might want to take a look at kernel update project thread.
  7. You should be able to use the M$ one...I'd start removing items from config.sys and autoexec.bat until it starts working. I don't even have emm386 loaded at all. I don't think it's needed unless you do a lot of work in DOS with expanded memory (obsolete).
  8. Print spooler. If you don't need it, disable it in the services control panel.
  9. It'll increase the stability of the system and you'll be able to get it closer to the limit.
  10. 5400RPM should be enough for light use...
  11. You can try searching http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/ for some software that can unlock your drive, or ask the master password on their forums.
  12. It's legal only if M$ gets money from it
  13. 1440 watts power supplies in them? That's a *lot* more than most PCs have... They should've bought the Intel-based Macs. From what I've heard, they have less power consumption and more performance. ...or just bought high-end PCs.
  14. Modulate the clock with a sinusoidal wave ±10%. Bad for overclocking since the frequency can go over limit intermittently.
  15. Defective CD or drive? Have you tried another drive or CD?

I just think it's more of an annoyance to users of legit copies than pirated ones. Those who use pirated Windows obviously know what cracks are and aren't afraid to use them, and defeating WGA is by no means difficult compared to some of the other software copy-protection systems out there. Thus the intent of WGA as an anti-piracy measure is an absolute failure. On the other hand, there are those using legit Windows, who don't want to use cracks, and thus are affected by the annoyances that WGA causes. It's having no effect at all on the pirates, but does have negative effects on those who are using "Genuine Microsoft® Software" ...and BTW there are copyright laws here where I am, but nobody cares about them
  17. Is the laptop moist?
  18. Disable spread-spectrum control.
  19. If your system works fine there's nothing wrong.

Now I certainly don't want that on my system, legit or not. I think the EFF would be interested in this... it's similar to spyware.
  21. ... Just Google "setupp.ini" and read the first link
  22. Get a PSU of at least 450w, and one from a well-known manufacturer like Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake, etc.
  23. Glue? Are you sure they're not welded?
  24. Possible malware infection?
