  1. Agreed. Don't upgrade drivers if it's already working fine. I've had bad experiences with driver upgrades...
  2. Put msvcp71.dll in the same directory as the acrord32.exe
  3. If it still doesn't work then extract the original regedit.exe from the XP CD.
  4. control.exe sysdm.cpl
  5. Original release version of Xp.
  6. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=75482
  7. At least 250ms... otherwise it'll stall the CPU and the other processes won't get as much processor time.I don't know if VB supports this but the best way would be to suspend your process and wait for a notification message when the second process has ended.
  8. A 1-drive "array" wouldn't be an array would it?
  9. Just close all the unused ports if you're not behind a NAT router or firewall.
  10. I don't believe RAM can age and become slower. They are, after all, only solid-state devices. There is nothing to "wear out", neglecting the effects of electromigration. I have an XT 286 from the mid 1980s with original RAM, and it still works as it always did (the hard drive, however, is another story...)
  11. Three more programs that can kill processes: HandleEx LordPE Procdump32
  12. .ASX files are just text files... if you open them in notepad or other text editor you'll see the actual link to the media. I think you'll need to download the ASF first and then open it... but other program like ASFrecorder is needed for that.
  13. Perhaps because of 98lite CHUBBY shell, but no such option when I right-click on the Start Menucjl I don't use 98lite. This is a standard explorer.exe v4.10.2222
  14. Are you sure the hard drive is working properly? Both symptoms you described point to filesystem corruption.
  15. Just create a shortcut to the shutdown.exe with the appropriate command-line parameters. (Right-click desktop, "New -> Shortcut")
  16. Quick-launch toolbar? It's on the taskbar to the immediate right of the start button.
  17. Mine is plenty long as well (72 items)... I know that XP allows to switch between scrolling and opening a second menu list but I don't think there is such an option in 98se. As for sorting the start menu...
  18. 3. Save new boot sector as BOOTSECT.DOS in the root of the boot drive 4. Add the line I specified above to BOOT.INI in the [operating systems] section 5. Restore existing XP's boot sector
  19. For your CPU the maximum temperature is 70°C. What is your full-load temperature?
  20. You still have plenty of room to overclock, it's nowhere near overheating. Keep going up until the frequency limit is reached, it seems temperature will not be much of a concern.
  21. You don't really need an expensive case... it's the parts inside that are important!
  22. Find which EXE or DLL contains the strings you want to customise, then edit it with a resource editor.
  23. How hard is it to just unplug the network cable? Check in the BIOS for less obvious options, like IRQ-related wakeup.
  24. Your primary hard drive will need to be formatted as FAT32. Save the existing boot sector of the hard drive, SYS it with a DOS boot disk so that it will boot to a command prompt, then save the new boot sector created by SYS as BOOTSECT.DOS and restore the original XP boot sector. Now add a new line to boot.ini: C:\="DOS 7.1"
  25. A Cyrix 5x86-100... I hear they can be overclocked to 133 What does it do on boot? Is it completely dead?
