I once came across a similar issue with a Gigabyte nvidia-based card where uninstalling the software manager of the card fixed the problem. It might not work for you, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents...

There is an option in nLite which says "Show Windows Version on Desktop" or something alike... Uncheck that next time you play around with nLite and you should be fine

How much is the 2600? If you don't plan on using DX10, I'd recommend you a 76xx or even a 78xx or 79xx card from nvidia. They are getting quite cheap nowadays.

You need to specify the gateway for all the pc's except the server (which is the gateway).

UPDATE: Next week the E6750 is coming!!! Moving on to the cooling system... What do you think about the current cooler in my rig (it's the Thermaltake thingy in my sig)? Will it be ok for taking the CPU at about 3.5 GHz or will I need a different sollution?

This shows that the issue is NOT with your Windows installation but with the software (probably from HP) you are using to scan. Take the issue with HP support (which is cr*ppy, btw...). PS. Edited to rant about HP

They are stored in a system folder called "System Volume Information", but can't help you on how to delete some of them while preserving the rest...
