  2. I am in need of some help. I did a backup (sometime ago 4-5 yrs) using Windows98.I now need the information, for use on XP. The problem is that with Windows 98 it used QIC files as backup.I cannot open these disks with XP I do NOT have 98 at all now Can someone offer me some advice as to how these disks can be opened & used ? Thanks Baldy
  3. My problem is that I cannot scan from the HP,PSC2510 all in one printer. When I try to scan all I get is 6 distorted images. HP has told me that there is a corrupt DLL,& I will have to contact Microsoft for them to address the problem. What I find strange is that the computer is a HP & they installed Windows in section on the hard drive so as it can be retrieved when ever needed. As said above they know nothing about Windows??????? If I go to the camera wizard in Windows I can scan from that: so there is no problem scanning from Windows direct,so how can it be that Windows has as corrupt DLL,when it scans???? I have spent 5 hrs (in total) at various stages on line talking to HP tech trying to get them to talk me through. What I am trying to do is to find out which DLL "maybe" corrupt and repalce it. I have deleted the hard drivr, formated it,reinstalled Windows & the problem is still there. Thanks
  4. When I download Microsoft GDI + Detection Tool (KB 873374) & install it,after the computer is rebooted the computer goes into constant start up loop. This keeps going as long as the computer has power to it.If you shut down the computer from the mains power & turn the power on again it continues to do the same. I have the computer set for auto downloads for Windows XP. Can anyone offer any help or suggestions on this Please
  5. Hi. I had an occasion to use SFC /Scannow,to "try" to find out if I had any corrupt DLL's ( I had been told that I did by HP)my computer is a HP that has pre-installed Windows. After it went through its cycle & I restarted the computer I could NOT get Windows to open up.By that I am meaning that I could not get Windows to work. I contacted HP & they informed me that they know nothing about Windows contact Microsoft I tried to contact Microsoft about it,& they told me to start in safe mode,I could not even do this.I had to do a FULL recovery, including a format of the hard drive. I feel that there may be a conflict but I do not know how to find & fix the problem. I would welcome any help please I have Windows Xp with service pack 2 TIA
  6. I purchased a HP computer (12 months ago) & it came with Windows XP installed. My problem is that it keeps turning itself off, then restarts. I use AVG Professional which is updated every day I have downloaded Windows Defender to try & see what is wrong,it shows that the computer is working correctly? Is this problem common? How do I rectify this problem please ????? Baldy
  7. I cannot use chkdsk /f because my drive is fat 32 and it cannot lock the drive
  8. Thanks for that. I have tried chkdsk & it tells me that I am using fat 32 which is correct, but, it will not rectify on my hard drive. That is why I wondered & thought that scandisk would be better!!

    XP Icons etc

Hi All. As a new member please forgive me if there are mistakes. Can the icons & fonts be made larger on XP. When I start up XP I find that the icons & fonts etc are too small. Even when using Outlook the fonts etc are that small that you nearly need eye glasses to see the print.. Also is there anywy of returning to 98SE without stripping and reinstalling. Baldy
