  1. Back to basics... Does your XP install cd include Service Pack 1 or higher ? If not, you will have a problem installing on a partition that goes beyond the 127Gig on your disk.
  2. As spacesurfer suggests, if you want is 2 screens with the same image, use the function key to toggle screens. What you did is "adding desktop space" probably on the right of your laptop's screen (see the mouse if you drag it to the far right?). That space has the same background as your first screen but no icon. That's normal.
  3. The "make ISO" step leaves the set of files untouched. At that stage, the "last session.ini" is already (over)written. So: no.
  4. You can ping the DC ?
  5. Use the F12 option available on most mobo since ~6 years ?
  6. what does "HC" stand for ?
  7. Someone who knows what "support" means.
  8. 1) could be. Tough you could first try to remove every additional card, reset the memory modules and video card (if not onboard) and retry. Also test with memory modules one by one if applicable. A good reset of the board can help sometimes. 2) it proves it's plugged in but not that it's working 100% 3) no. The processor really does it all. Good luck.
  9. The search function would have saved your time ...you'd have found out that threads about MicroXP are closed because it is warez.
  10. That's a bit rude. The real explanation is likely to be that there is no partition on the disk (virtual or not). In which case, the "Press any key" message is always skipped.
  11. Is this a rhetorical question or do you have a technical problem that you can actually describe ?
  12. Now if it were the right forum section (XP), I've done it ten times (swapping HDD on identical machine, before and after mobo replacement) and the answer as eveybody knows is: "no problemo" not even a reboot.
  13. I don't think you can achieve that without using a multiboot (and not a multi choice within Windows like you're talking about). You can't overwrite the partition with the Windows system you're running.
  14. You seem to know something we don't and that makes your question sound odd to me. Why would you install "additional" support for UDMA66 on a motherboard that supports higher ? XP surely provide drivers for higher transfer rates as well. So do you have a problem at first with an other device that needs UDMA66 (and not 100 or 133 like your mobo supports) ? In my mind, if the mode being enabled doesn't mean it is active nor "forced".
  15. Yes indeed. You are just making "a" Windows install CD, you modify it for your needs for PCs you want to install.
  16. For higher transfer rate, the motherboard and the device have to be "higher" than UDMA66 of course. If that was your question. I believe UDMA66 was supported by motherboards from the PIII era (~1999) and after, quickly moving to UDMA100.
  17. Apart from the fact that you better use the native resolution of the TFT, I don't see much of a concept of "migrating from CRT to TFT world". I hope someone gets your question right.
  18. The answer file being an output of nLite, I can't see how nLite should use it. In case you have an answer file from previous unattended installation, it's rewritten and you have to use the appropriate options again.
  19. Just edit the file, run nLite, don't import (actually it doesn't matter), chose nothing but the last step; "Bootable ISO" and nLite will rebuild the ISO with the same set of files resulting from your previous session, with only one modified file.
  20. Also as pointed out by Yzöwl, that message probably comes from the fact that the files you use (your sister's)are from an UPGRADE ONLY version of XP, and not because the drive is empty at first. Maybe you can bypass that by inserting a WinMe or 2k or 98 or 95 CD. Maybe it will just get you to the next problem.
  21. If you don't have an XP disc to start with, things might prove very difficult. Also in what you've done, you might have mixed different file versions from two XP systems. Now first you say you want to run the OS from your USB, then you say you will install from the USB, it's not the same, you have to decide, but I don't see any point to the 1st solution.
  22. What's your partitions setup and to which one are you installing ? Is there any hidden partition ?
  23. You could run SIV to get the exact info on the devices then seach the maker's site. The program's layout is a bit Haloween but the info it provides is ok.
  24. First things that come to my mind as variable are -more devices, more drivers (and some drivers can be very big) -more RAM, bigger page file by default (talking hundreds of megabytes here. -udates can be integrated or applied after install, that impacts on the size of the disc and also of the "final" install, but then in the opposite way. I suppose you remove the unneeded MS folders on the disc.
  25. You probably just need to SKIP "OOBE" (General tab of Unattended). I also remember there is a problem if you choose same user name as the PC name.
