  1. Ok then, that's where you got it wrong. The link provides methods to integrate WMP11 in an SP3 source, then, it says after that, you can use nLite to make other changes, but these changes do not include integrating SP3. They consider you start from XP SP3. Only their tittle is not clear.
  2. It is not clear from what you write wether you really followed the order from that link. You are integrating WMP after SP3, right ? So how would it cause a problem when you integrate SP3 ?
  3. Shooooosh ! I am a good guy , I could have replied as well, but I thought saying it a 4th time wasn't going to help. Still I do now. If the application says it transforms A in B or A in C but you want to transform B in C, and it doesn't work, think before insisting it's a bug. If 3 people including Happy Dude (you can be glad he was still replying after your first reactions) and Nuhi say it doesn't work the way you do it, it probably doesn't work. You come back at him saying it's a bug from his (free) application, but you have an nLited disk and can't go further because you don't have the source it was made with, so really it's your problem. That was it. You're told 3 times in a row to restart with an original, you don't want to because that one needs activation. Ouch. As you say, so be it. Sorry dude. I will not reply further as the topic is closed. From Forum Rules: 8. Has the thread you started or participated in been moved, closed or deleted? Check with the forum moderator via PM. 4. This sub-forum is about installing XP from, not on USB. Don't be confused.
  5. Run a checkdisk ?

    Bad_pool_caller

I once had a Bad_pool_caller stop and after 1/2 hour, I found out one of the RAM module on that laptop was bad. It doesn't mean it's you case, but I'd test the ram extensively.
  7. I think to remember something trickier; Welcome screen does not revert to default keyboard. This means you turn the machine on, you get config "A", log in as user1, get config "1" (that will be different if the user has ever changed it in his session) , log off to Welcome screen, keep config "1", login as user2, get config "2", log off and keep config "2" on your Welcome Screen. CtrlAltDel (twice) will get you back to keyb config "A" on a classic login screen. I've seen this behaviour 3 years ago, I don't know if it's considered as normal or if it has been fixed by MS. Also pay attention to the "keyboard indicators" like Shift and NumLock. Numlock can be pretty annoying on a notebook.
  8. Included in SP2. Many updates have followed but the name is still 9.0c As for the throttle it seems that one doesn't and there is not much 'later PIIIs', I searched before posting but I might be wrong . What you didn't notice is that the 700MHz was an other PC.
  9. Can't hurt to gently clean the fans and cooler, giving the whole system longer life expectancy, but I think PIIIs just shut down when too hot. No "hotter=slower". Just keeping it real.
  10. I imagine different modes make components work at different rates rather than really use different physical components from a video card (not sure here). But the problem is hardware. You could also, if possible, plug an external CRT to be sure the screen chip is not the culprit.
  11. How is it "rejected", what's the exact message ? If you log in with Login Screen (not Welcome screen), can you check (typing in the username box) that the keyboard config at LogOff is the same as in the Administrator's session ?
  12. Well, at some point you need to decide wether you spend days or just hours. I wouldn't spend days for someone else's computer, you'll never get any reward for that, you'll just be called again when anything goes wrong. And I wouldn't slim down someone else's XP, same reasons, even worse, here, it's really your fault if things go wrong. You also need to decide if you spend hours fixing it or hours reinstalling it. It seems you are pushed both ways here, potentially loads of wasted time. Just my two cents.
  13. Have you tried anything or do you just not know where to begin ? If second case, install nLite, copy your entire XP cd in a folder on your HDD, start nLite, point to the folder for source, select "integrate drivers" and "make iso" as tasks (or more if you want to spend more time tweaking), then in the "driver integration", point to the "txtsetup.oem" file you list in your post and choose to have it integrated as "text mode", let nLite do the do, chose a name and label for your iso, click "make iso", wait 3 minutes, burn it, done. I might have skipped some steps If first case, precise the problem.
  14. I must have missed that screen a hundred times. That idea would suppress the ability to further slim down an install. I'm all for the "notes" section in the ini files. I posted about it already.
  15. My tv is broken, quite early I feel (7 years, for a JVC). I'm watching a small box (19"?) since a few months now and it's almost time for something more confortable. The JVC was a 24", 16/9 and I liked it. I now face several dilemnas, 26" or 32", and if 32, HD or not. I read in different reviews and heard from vendors that sitting 3meter from the screen, you can't see any difference between full HD (1080) and 1366x768 on a screen as small as 32". But then some people say they do see a difference. Also I won't have HD TV before a few years. Any input on this ? I have very good eyes (for the moment) but I wouldn't spend 50%more for ...nothing. Anyone got one of those ? Is this the slowest forum ?
  16. If you are sure the drivers are properly installed and if you had it dual booting correctly for a year, this sounds like a hardware problem. The card does not work at full resolution anymore. It does not sound as a heating problem though. If it's still under warranty, try to get it replaced.
  17. Removing files in successive nLite sessions is not a problem usually, but in my (short) experience with SP3, it seems to reset something and complains about files that have been removed previously.
  18. There is a sticky in the "Network & Internet" sub forum. Seems like "Super" does what you want. I never used it.
  19. I have a reg key named "sfcdisable" here. I can't confirm because I'm not home, but if it's on 1 or doesn't exist, it's probably disabled/removed.
  20. My answer might have seemed stupid, but we got a few threads time ago from people being confused between "using the option" and "enabling the message". But yes, your choice is correct and also yes, it (always) works for me, so I fail to see the cause of your problem. Maybe your original CD is the cause.
  21. Yes. And please report.
  22. You set it on "disabled" ?
  23. "working" is OK, in the case of integrating SP3, "original MS" is better. Is it ?
  24. Is there a "TXTSETUP.oem" file in the folder you're pointing to ?
  25. "Replacing that 125W beast upstairs with a 50W machine" Well, if it runs 24/7 (but I guess turning it off at night would double the figures ), the difference is 75Wh/h, that's 657KWh/year, hardly "thousands". Also at the price of the KWh here (~14eurocents), it's about 137USD a year. Or am I doing it wrong ?
