  1. Yes, I get the XP logo and then it crashes and reboots by itself. How do I "disable the automatic reboot after a crash and configure XP to make a full dump when crashing"? What is a "full dump"? Will this give me some error code? I consider myself a noob, when it comes to working under the hood with Windows, so I may need some simple terminology to work through this. Thanks.
  2. Thanks in advance to all those that can help me. I'm running a HP nc6220 laptop with the latest upgrade of XP Pro on one hard drive, and Linux Ubuntu on another. Both OS's work fine when used in the laptop. I have the docking station that comes with this laptop. When I use this docking station with the Ubuntu OS in the laptop, everything works fine. When I use the docking station with the XP Pro OS in the laptop, the OS goes into a boot up loop and will not go any further. This tells me it's a Windows software problem since the docking station works as it should under Linux. Is there some kind of setting I need to change in Windows to stop the boot up loop when I'm connected to the docking station? I would appreciate any help in solving this (probably simple) problem.
  3. Thank you all for your help. You guys are the best. Spacesurfer, you hit the nail right on the head. I wasn’t familiar with the fn key. I unchecked the box for extending my desktop to the second monitor and pressed the fn key and the f4 (monitor) key, and was able to toggle between the two screens, and both had my icons and toolbar. Everything is fine now. Thanks ever so much. Problem solved!!!
  4. I just purchased a new wide screen LCD TV that I would like to use as an external monitor for my laptop. It is connected by a RGB cable. I went into my xp display settings and clicked on the 2nd plug and play monitor. I set the screen resolution at 1024x768. The box is checked that says, “Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor”. What happens is that the external monitor only displays the window’s xp background and nothing else. No icons or toolbar. I’ve tried different resolutions where the display is smaller than the actual screen size, so I know the icons or toolbar is not off the screen (again, just the background is displayed). 1024x768 is a perfect fit. What settings do I have to change to get the icons and toolbar to show up on my external monitor? They show up on the laptop (primary) screen just fine. Thanks for your help.
