  1. What you see when you click Start / (All) Programs is the combination of the folders C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Start Menu\Programs
  2. You've already posted about this in the nLite forum. It is the way to go.
  3. Where does it say your CD is Windows XP SP3 ? it is because of the SATA controler, not because of Vista. If you can integrate the drivers, you're ok.
  4. It would be quite easy to try an other mouse to rule out the hardware problem possibility. Also check you don't have keys of your keyboad that are stuck.
  5. Then oldgoat's post in that thread is incorrect.
  6. Just curious, is it an overclocked 120 or did they really make them 130MHz 486 ? (I have a 100@120 laying somewhere and once came across a dead AMD DX4-120 cpu).
  7. Could search in here for a start.
  8. Check this thread http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=92854 from last week (the last post is more relevant). Then you can apply the 98se unofficial service pack.
  9. You need to organise your program groups in folders in your start menu (C:\Doc&Settings..). Put those you never really start from there in sub folders.
  10. check this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...t=0&start=0
  11. I think MS removed the ability to integrate the final version that way, hence your invalid switch message. ...Try nLite ?
  12. This is just an issue of drivers usage before and during installation, it should have nothing to do with the way your monitor and VGA board are handled after XP is installed and you've added your drivers.
  13. ... and sometimes you need to read before posting.
  14. I think he's talking network share and not physical HDD sharing/swappping.
  15. If the resolution and colour quality are the same as what you consider as "normal", then check other display options in the "Appearance" tab and Effects.
  16. I think there must be a misunderstanding here. 11 DVDs would be 51 Gig and 17 CDs would be 12Gig, this is a huge amount of data for an out of the box PC. USB flash drives today are 4 Gig.... I guess they suggested that you keep your installation disks (that might be all those DVDs and CDs) in a safe place if you got them with the machine at first. You really don't need a 2nd backup of that as most of them softwares you will never reinstall anyway.
  17. You typed "sys d:",... "to make it bootable", the drive has win98 on it, --> you can't upgrade to 98se. You needed to boot from a floppy like the first time, is it that simple ?
  18. Make sure the keyboard config is the same for default user (before login) and for your own profile (after login and at screensaver, which is still in your login). Default keyboard is found in registry, user, default, keyboard, preload (1st line) and is entered with the country code (409 for US, 809 for UK, I think). Your keyboard is in Control panel, Regional and language options, etc. Check language AND corresponding keyboard. Also, using "Welcome screen" instead of CtrlAltDel doesn't revert to default keyboard but keeps the previous profile config.
  19. I'd recheck that to be sure the problem comes from the memory and not from a cable that has been unintentionally moved during the operation.
  20. There might have been a "reset PCI config" option or something like that in the BIOS that might have helped.
  21. I'd run a checkdisk from your safe mode session.
  22. I've reinstalled ME this weekend for tests and I can't remember to have seen any welcome movie. I guess because only the needed folder was copied to the HDD at first.
  23. I don't have that here so it must be a setting. ...I might get back to you in a few minutes when I find something.
  24. A reply from Bob to this 1st article: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/2006/pu...229_001403.html And one more about Vista: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/2006/pu...208_001308.html Those are a month old but still quite interresting.
  25. ... the answer is in the question.
