sorry lol been a long while since this post started, ok so your w2k3 server has DNS on it, if the XP Pc is using it for DNS then as long as there is a cahced entry for the pc in question you will be able to ping by name. try pinging or connecting to a pc from the server and resolving its name, once done (with the w2k3 box as the dns server for the xp one) do the same from the XP machine and i cannot see why it would not work, providing that those routes are in place
-
hmm, if you can connect to them by IP not name then that would suggest that the 2 routes we put in are working. Can your w2k3 box resolve the other pc's hostnames? if so then i think that the DNS server that it has should also be the DNS server that the xp box has. Try that and lets see what happens

what is 88.200.110.128? also do another route print but remove all static routes and everything we have added first so i can see what the default config should be i almost have this figured out i think, cheers

i can see what this code is attempting to do although im more familiar with interacting with access not excel, however i would suggest stepping through the program line by line and finding out for example if the the dataset has been filled with the values from the xls document let us know how it goes and il help more if i can.

Hi all, i currently run XP X64 and have been reading the vista resource kit book and i have begun to appreciate what vista is really all about, now with that said can anyone who has a similar configuration to me, preferably the same motherboard tell me if there are any issues i may face when installing it? i have a spare 250gb sata driver that i could use to complete this exercise non destructively, im open to all advice/comments thanks

yeah GFI rules, its been running on a lot of our systems for a long time now and you get so used to it being there, the minute a service stops or something, you really see what a difference it makes

ICS cannot share a wireless connection, only wired. If you need to extend your WAP's range, consider Netgear's extender products, since you're already using a Netgear WAP: http://www.netgear.com/Products/PowerlineN...ts/WGXB102.aspx Sorry Cluberti is right, for a minute there i seemed to remember setting up ICS for someone on a wireless connection, i remember what i actually did though in the end, i created an Ad-hoc network between the 2 wireless connections and enabled ICS on the LAN connection and that worked

you can enable ICS on a wireless connection so that should work no problems.

Help using no-ip with 2 server machines
eyeball replied to swancd's topic in Networks and the Internet
i have never used no-ip, however does the new server have the software installed? does it have the same internal address as the previous server did? i assume it would just work although like i say i have never used no-ip. and i know i say this to everyone but have you tried Logmein? its the best remote control software there is and its free -
Linksys WRT54G router. Want to replace firmware.
eyeball replied to weEvil's topic in Networks and the Internet
wow tomato sounds awesome, im running HyperWRT on mine too, but im gonna make the switch to tomato i think up until this post i have never heard of it thanks -
have you got the latest firmware on the router? or maybe a good open source one like Hyper WRT (if it is a linksys WRT). have you got the lastest drivers for your card? and have you tried googling for problems with that card to see if anyone else has had the problem and maybe even a solution EDIT: also set the logging on the router to full and see if that gives you any clue as to why its dropping, could be something daft like DHCP lease time
-
No the problem is that DMZ to LAN traffic is obviously blocked so a policy would not work, however a very tight temporary firewall rule might do the trick. Or the safer option, can you physically unplug this server and connect it to the LAN temporarily?
-
the route it takes is down to the OSPF of the connecting routers, apart from a proxy (possibly) as you say i can see no way around this EDIT: unless it has to go through a certain point at your ISP for monitoring or something? do another trace to google.com or something and see if you can see any common places that they both pass through or post the trace here

Not as secure (at least the old version isn't). LogMeIn gives you 256-bit security, both the remote desktop feature and Hamachi. Encryption is something you have to remember to not get carried away with, as it's only one part of the security whole. Any of the heavily advertised Fetch-My-PC type services are going to get trolled constantly by Script-Kiddies looking for some dope with a simple password. My advice is to use anything except one of these high profile targets. I'll take RDP with FIPS (or a certificate) and a proper password any day. And i will take 0 forwarded ports, a random alphanumeric email address only used for logmein, a random alphanumeric password, and then a completely random alphanumeric username and alphanumeric password to access my pc, oh and the SSL encryption logmein provides too! oh and also logmein locks you out of your account after 3-5 wrong attempts and sends you an email, so a script would just fail miserably at breaking into it.

Hi All, does anyone know if there is a an MSI file available of Office 2007 SP1? as i would like to deploy it through GP thanks
-
Does it happen in safe mode? if it doesnt then try to think what third party products and drivers you have installed, chances are they are causing the hangs
-
if you mean accross a local subnet then something like Real VNC will do it, although VNC accross the internet is NOT secure, Logmein is far superior

Run internet thru a computer then to a wifi router?
eyeball replied to KamiQuazi's topic in Networks and the Internet
windows XP has ICS (internet connection sharing) built in, look it up this is essentially allows your OS to act as a router and perform NAT -
sorry but why should anyone go to the trouble of using vlite? if the OS doesnt work out of the box to the standard a user expects then i dont think they should use it, unless there is some clear advantage.
-
you havent given much information to be honest. you dont even say when this is occuring! post as much info as you can and someone is more likely to help you
-
the second and third pc are connected by xover? are they on the same ip range for a start? i cant see why they would show limited/ no connectivity if they werent. maybe print an ipconfig of the machines or tell us the addressing scheme to help you better

Connection Sharing Network Problems
eyeball replied to davidbugeja's topic in Networks and the Internet
from the look of that trace, DNS is working fine as the ip resolves correctly. The request times out however, so do you have any firewalls on these pcs? also when you enable ICS do you make sure that you make all of the services available to users? the settings i am refering toare somewhere in the properties of the shared LAN connection, check these out and post back and i think i can help you further thanks -
Do you have onboard sound you could try? just to see if the sound is coming from the motherboard at least?
