  1. can't you just FDISK the partition from DOS? that should work
  2. it didnt get too hot, i think that i really shouldnt have turned it back on after it initially turned itself off. I should have looked properly at all the cards and the motherboard before turning back on. Im sure it was just a faulty card and i feel its kinda my fault that it got to the point where it set on fire. lol
  3. back on topic, what are you trying to achieve anyway? there has to be a better solution
  4. best free AV IMO is avira antivirus, disable the nag screen and it is perfect
  5. hmm, wasnt there once a way to rename cmd to the same name as the screen saver and have it run that way?
  6. wow, im kinda glad its not just me thats had a similar thing with this card, thats what mine smelt of, horrible electrical burning smell eugh!
  7. Thanks Guys, and thanks Zxian i think il get that card then Cheers!
  8. Thanks Zxian , is the one i posted an E92 series? if so im gonna get it cos i dont wanna risk this again. Right now i have a smoke alarm sat ontop of my pc....just incase
  9. thank you for your concern I have 2 X 580W PSU both Hiper Type-R, i dont think that was the issue, and there was little or no heat as i have my case packed with 140 and 120mm fans. I think it was just faulty, it really sucks that i have to go through the whole RMA process but what can i do about it. im looking at this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....amp;subcat=1008 maybe its overkill, but it has a nice shiny 10Year warranty which looks very attractive right now, considering what i just witnessed lol cheers EDIT: oh, and its a PCI Express slot
  10. Hello everyone, i need some help please, my trusty XFX Nvidia 7900 GS XXX just died. My pc was running and turned off by itself, so i opened the case to look, turned it back on and a chip on the graphics card set on fire!!! i ripped the plug out the wall faster than i dont know what, anyway has anyone ever seen this happen before? its really frightening, and secondly it looks like i need to purchase a new card, anyone got any suggestions? i want low power consumption but may as well get a pretty powerful one. thanks guys
  11. ok its a long shot but here is what i would do if i really couldnt get onto the device, 1) stay late one night 2) start a constant ping to that IP 3) socket by socket, switch off all of the electrical equipment in the building and see if that ping holds up 4) when it doesnt you may be a little closer to finding out what it is lol
  12. yeah i noticed u mentioned a ping - a after i posted, guess you saw my post before i edited lol
  13. at cmd type nslookup type set q=ptr type 192.168.1.5 theres your answer hopefully EDIT: sorry i overlooked the fact that a ping -a didnt resolve it. maybe try telnet to the IP?
  14. Orange should supply a livebox router for your connection shouldnt they? with a 4 port swicth? Ask them if you can have one, i was under the impression all orange customers got one, you never know it may just solve the problem
  15. what happens if you go to Http://24.230.212.8:8082/AP ? surley that works, its should add default.aspx to the end of it automatically, if it doesnt what is the error it gives?
  16. hey come to think of it that might just work, if everyone has a static address, using the routes i gave you and adding DNS A records manually through dnsmgmt.msc i think you could get it to work
  17. top notch idea cluberti!, as soon as im fully migrated over to X64 and fully up and running i will be doing this with Avira, with the counters you named.
  18. god dammit! is there no way around this?
  19. Hello everyone, i am having a lot of trouble installing Pg2 on my x64 vista install, i understand drivers must be signed by the WHQL but i have disabled the check for this using the F8 option and also running "bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS" but yet when i try to run pg2 it still gives me the same error relating to the driver and it failing to load. Can anyone offer any help? Many Thanks
  20. oh i see you have a ADSL router/modem in one. You are right in what you say about forwarding a port, the basic steps are 1) give yourself a static ip 2) forward the correct port through to your IP 3) test the forwarding 4) if you have something like peerguardian 2, be aware that can cause false reports if you test the port forwarding. have you got any software firewalls too?
  21. a modem requires no port forwarding since it is not routing traffic. You only need to forward a port on your router.
  22. same here i use the 64 bit app if its available, but not noticed an increase in performance. I use X64 so i can use 8GB of ram for virtual PCs, otherwise 32bit would be fine i suppose
  23. it sounds like this paticular machine has an incorrect DNS server specified. try doing an ipconfig/all on all the ocs and compare what they have listed as their DNS server. Im sure the one with the issue will be different cheers
  24. its not caching like it should, i wonder why? Does anyone know why? maybe its something to do with the security of 2003? if the XP box were in its place i wonder if it would behave the same?
  25. so if you resolve a name on your win2k3 server and type ipconfig /displaydns you see the pcs listed that you have resolved? and yet your XP box cannot resolve these names even with the win2k3 server as its dns server? is this correct?
