for what its worth, i recently jumped from X86 XP to X64 XP and found everything worked flawlessly except 32bit shell extensions, which i would have expected anyway. However is it just me or does X64 feel slower than X86 did?

Control Engineering Win2000/Remote Control Software, Going Network
eyeball replied to 567's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
try looking for "belarc advisor" that will scan your pc for free -
grab the %windir%\inf directory as a starting point, then get a copy of %windir%\system32\drivers you are right bobco, that all the info is stored under that class key, but looking through it all is a pain in the arse. I wonder if just those 2 directories above would suffice?

Split net connection to PC and router
eyeball replied to wintertiger's topic in Networks and the Internet
server 2003 has a built in firewall but its not ideal, maybe replace it with another one such as comodo. the setup itself is not ideal either, really in this sort of situation, providing the server is of adequate spec you should have 2 nics in it and run ISA firewall on it. Then the server is acting as a router too. im not saying do it this way, just a thought -
the AI in this game is terrible, i hate the way i shoot someone and their reaction (although im still pumping bullets into them) is to shoot me back. Perfect Dark 64 has the greatest AI i have ever seen in a FPS and i find it strange that developers these days cannot even come close to replicating it. if i shoot someones leg i expect them to grab it, scream in pain and limp after me if i run away, or if i shoot someone in the hand i expect them to drop their gun, none of this happens in crysis which is why i find the AI so poor and dissapointing

the optimal pagefile size is 1.5 X the amount of ram you have,so in your case 1536 would be optimal. the strange performance you mention, i notice it is in games, have you left a molex connector disconnected from the graphics card? or are you powering too many devices from a single 12V rail?

i know this, but it is possible to add the functionality with the reg file i posted! the problem is that he cant import it EDIT: Hmmm, i have just googled it and someone suggests booting into safe mode, and they suggest as long as your the administrator it will show up in there

printers are profile based, however you have a few options; if you are running server 2003 R2 look into the print management utility, otherwise map a printer from a logon script using something like con2prt.exe from the NT4 Zak-kit. Or use vbscript in a logon script to map a printer

ok i have another thougt. if you open windows explorer and click tools -> folder options -> file types, is REG in there as a file type and set to open with registry editor? im just trying to think why you couldnt import the reg file we created.
-
wow!, something is screwed up. dont do that definatley not. the only other thing i can think of trying apart from reinstalling windows is to manually create the entries does anyone else have an idea on this?
-
start - run -> regedit try file -> import, from within regedit does that do it?

EDIT sorry there is a space between "advan" and "ced" in the code try this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\SimpleSharing] "Type"="checkbox" "Text"="@shell32.dll,-30518" "HKeyRoot"=dword:80000002 "RegPath"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\LSA" "ValueName"="ForceGuest" "CheckedValue"=dword:00000001 "UncheckedValue"=dword:00000000 "HelpID"="shell.hlp#51154" "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 same thing again, make sure it is a .reg file

cool, glad you got it sorted i think WEP 64 bit is rather weak but with MAC filtering and hiding your SSID i think you will be relativley safe however my prefered level of encryption would be WPA-PSK cheers

try using the following in a reg file [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advan ced\Folder\SimpleSharing] "Type"="checkbox" "Text"="@shell32.dll,-30518" "HKeyRoot"=dword:80000002 "RegPath"="System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\LSA" "ValueName"="ForceGuest" "CheckedValue"=dword:00000001 "UncheckedValue"=dword:00000000 "HelpID"="shell.hlp#51154" "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 run that and see if the option is there after a reboot

either that or you can configure the windows firewall exceptions through group policy if you are in a domain environment

1) reset the access point to defaults by pressing the button on the back with a pin 2) connect to the access point with a ethernet cable on the LAN side 3) connect to 192.168.0.50 in your browser 4) find DHCP server on the access point and turn it off 5) find "LAN IP" (192.168.0.50) and change it to an ip on your network that is not in use such as 10.10.10.100, check the subnet mask as i notice you are using 255.255.255.0 when it should infact be 255.0.0.0. 6) give your self a static ip eg 10.10.10.99 7) "Ping" the access point 8) if it replies then try to connect wirelessly to it 9) "ping" it wirelessly 10) connect it to the neighbours router it now should work. if not troubleshoot as follows: 1) ping the access point 2) ping the neighbours router 3)ping googles ip - 66.249.81.99 4)ping google by name if any of the steps fail you can determine where the problem is (most) likely name resolution will cause an issue in this case, but give it a go and let us know if you need more help

can you give the computers a default gateway that doesnt exist and get around it that way?
-
do you have simple file sharing disabled on both of these computers?
-
if it works in safe mode only, i would suggest that a 3rd party firewall or something is to blame
-
ok thanks ripken, will do cheers!
-
thanks, i was looking at the clock speed and looking for the fastest, i just wondered if anyone knew of the top of their head or maybe had a link that showed all of them in ordered of best to worst or something thanks
-
Hi all, i am just helping my brother look for an 8800 gt but we are going round in circles looking at the same card from different manfacturers, does anybody know how they rank in terms of their performance from best to worst? many thanks
-
yes connect to the access point first with an ethernet cable and then put the settings in. Then plug it into your neighbours cable and if you configured it right it will work P.S post back if you need help with any paticular settings
-
If your neighbour has the router at his house and it is configured as a DHCP server you should be able to buy an access point, and configure that to obtain an IP by DHCP and plug it in and it should work, remember to configure security on it too. I hope i have understood you correctly
-
to configure an access point for the very first time it is recommended that you connect to it from the LAN side. why are you connecting to your neighbours access point? what are you trying to achieve? thanks
