Well I use Nforce 2 which is ok even on Vista. The only thing is, the videocards are only good till ATI 9800 then thats it, no X1950pro agp or x850xt pe either. Also no games. I think Halo is where it ends. You cant run any new software on 98 anymore. I would like to hang on to 98SE too but its hopeless. Things like google maps and myspace players kill 98 in no time. I'm also wondering what to do myself, I'm running Vista which is pretty good. I would say via kt600 or kt880 or a nforce 2 board will do but you kickin a dead horse

It's because of your 1 sata drive. For some reason Vista wont install on a sata, I tried too. You need a IDE drive

I downloaded drivers from ABIT for the NF7s http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/download...3112/v10050.zip I have good results within Vista using my IDE as the OS. I have not tried installing Vista on the SATA with the Abit drivers. They are Version 1.0.50 I also installed the Sil GUI locted in the driver package. Seems ok with Vista

You cant see the sata drive without the drivers, I know that. It still dont work.

I am trying to install on a single sata and it cant find the SATA drive without the drivers that I burned to another disk. After I install the drivers it wont continue installing after the first reboot.

Dude I just tried to install vista on my new sata. My first attempt it asked for the driver so I copied the folder on a dvd and it found it and installed and then windows continued and the it restarted and said windows is starting for the first time. Then I seen the green bar going across then black then restart, everytime. Is there a way to fix this?

Yes, good call on the AV8. The UL8 has a ULi chipset which Nvidia just gobbled up so I think the Via chipset would be a better choice. No need for the ecc ram huh ? Only thing is that the UL8 is 50 bucks still in the box new.......

I found a ABIT UL8 and was wondering if anyone has any info on this setup. I want a faster chip and want to keep my ram and videocard. Seems like it would be ok........?
