I have been using the VIA 8237r chipset for my sata drive, I got curious and tried the promise controller to see if it would report the SMART info, since the VIA chipset doesn't. Well what a joke, I cant find a driver newer than 2003! I had a Sil 3112 on my A7N8X and I got a 2007 bios, and 2007 Vista driver. Whats with Promise? I'll never buy a board with a Promise controler again....

I could almost swear that Vista invokes errors until your activated online....... I was getting carzy errors and BSODS until I reactivated Vista, then it disapeared completely....could it be?

Well I disabled search for MDA resources and this boot I didn't get the error. I also reduced my AGP aperature to 128mb, instead of 256mb. So far so good! What a difference from the XP3200, wow. I gained 600MB/s just with the memory controller over the Nforce2.

think I'll disable this, first off. just wanna document this for future usage here on the forum

Well I got my rig up and running. I am getting some errors though: Machine Check Event reported is a fatal memory hierarchy error. Trasaction Type: 3 Memory Hierarchy Level: 1 Request Type: 14 Address: 0 I memtested my ram with ZERO errors after 4 complete runs. I have alot of things in the bios that I dont understand: Search for MDAresources=? AGP 3.0 calibration cycle=? PCI delay transaction=? Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA=I have AGP, DISABLE? 32bit Data transfer=? Also if I try to "sleep", my computer fails to resume and freezes. Please anyone with some definate answers for this Mobo on Vista x86

I just found a 4200X2 939 and had it tested, will be putting it all together Nov. 21, I'll keep you posted. Anyone know how much faster this new setup will be compared to my XP3200? I'm getting excited!

Yes thats good advice, thanks, and for the links, gj. I'm already there on those, I got the latest bios dated 2007 too, I'm thinking it contains some Vista fixes, I hope. (4.56 just incase) One thing I dont get is on the ASUS site, the bios is listed under DOS and ALL OS. I'm confused, the newest bios says DOS. Is this just a bad listing or language type error? And it says beta bios.....

You must know why, if you dont here's one of about 1000 hacks. This problem remains a huge issue and the admins are just as corrupt. The game is flawed on PURPOSE, so that idiots use the hacks that contain trojans and other nasties. It's a disgrace to the game and Rockstar.

Well I need to know if my dualcore will work on Vista. I'd like to use the A8V on Vista but nobody can help me prove my theory that the VIA 939 is going to work. I am deciding between a AMD 4000 or AMD 4200X2 I need to get some real info on the A8V, please. I did google around but I see all is from 2005, anyone use this now?

The best thing would be to learn to use vista properly. gpedit.msc is your friend

I need to know if there's any tips on installing Vista? Should I disable some stuff like the promise SATA ? I am going to use a floppy with the 8237R sata drivers on it. I have only 1 SATA drive, do I use SATAIDE\WXP\ or VRAIDDrv\VISTA\x86\ ?? Thanks

I have no problems running Vista on my 32bit CPU and 2GB of ram is plenty.

I enabled CTCP netsh interface tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Tcp1323Opts to 1 and I had a increase in download speed. Now I get 1000kbs more. Holy crap, what ever that did its faster even uploading my screenshots now.

If your 64bit ready, then get 64bit. I would get Ultimate if I was you. The 32bit version is great too so I dunno. If your gonna buy a mustang, always get the V8. I havent seen any DRM crap as of 2 years running Vista........

Look dont do a upgrade thats crap. Start from scratch it's the best way to go.
