Such a hard thing to diagnose. All you can do is be careful by touching the bare metal and using the strap that many consider worthless. Electronics are just so sensitive.

I set them both to manual and rebooted. Offline didn't start but Search did. I was still able to stop it, of course. So I'd guess that the Thinkpad software is still a good candidate here. Have you also checked autoruns to ensure something else isn't doing config management?

Hah, cool. I have the x120e Have had no trouble disabling services on my Thinkpad. But I also uninstalled all of the Thinkpad software first. Sometimes those proprietary packages will undo your changes to keep them running in a pre-configured state.

Cringely just posited a rumor that Apple will soon come out with a TV and or TV addon that basically gives you control of your media devices via Siri (that voice app).

I've read good things about it but haven't seen one in real life. I've had the suspicion that some of their great reputation could be due to fake reviews but I can't prove it.
