That is a pretty impressive number. I wouldn't have thought it to be that high. But even if that number is accurate, that is still a large number of folks (espectially when you consider the world audience) that are still dialing up.
You couldn't get it to work or it doesn't do what we are talking about? I've never actually used that program but it has been part of my standard toolkit for a good while since it seemed like a really handy app to have around.
Try, try again! Another, albeit less active, slashdot article. And my nearly identical (because I am lazy and it is early in the AM) post. Maybe someone with more caffeine can put up a better post for HFSLIP? We need some propaganda here, people!
Do you use HFCLEANUP? There are still TONS of dialup users out there. They may not be the majority anymore but it wouldn't surprise me if they still are. They still outnumbered us lucky broadband users last time I did a little research (2 years ago).
While we wait for an answer to nitroshift's question, here is a tactic for you rajcool: whenever you have site compatibility issues, like this appears to be, try accessing the site with a different browser (even IE) to see if your luck improves.
The WRT series are awesomely flexible little boxes. That flexibility makes them worth far more than they cost. There were some issues with certain types of heavy traffic loads (eMule, for one) especially when used with Port Forwarding. But in my experience those issues have been eliminated and everything is good to go now...even when it was an issue it took a LOT of traffic to lock my box.
Your friend needs to use your EXTERNAL IP, not internal. And you do need to use a static internal IP with port forwarding. It can work with DHCP, but if you get a different IP (yes, even if you are the only client) then your ports won't be forwarded properly. Should be forwarded ON the router. The router gets the packets and forwards them TO your machine.
Ooooo....you want to measure each user's bandwidth usage? That is harder for windows machines! The options above give you a "total usage" number but not by user. Is your network an Active Directory domain? Or just a bunch of clients sharing a router? Another option is a smart switch that can report port usage. My Cisco 2950 has detailed usage reports per port. But most consumer-grade switches are dumber.
Does it require IE? Is it free/GPL? What is a good version to try? There are four (4!) beta versions on the DL page but no notes about which one is stable or why one would choose any over the others.
Just happened to find this link today...maybe it will help you? At nearly 50MB, it looks to be an all-in-one package. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Logitech_Setpoin...ware_d2785.html
You still haven't told us what your problem is. It is tough to suggest an alternative when we don't know the specific problem you have with roaming profiles. Another point altogether is that it sounds like these people are abusing your systems/network for their personal gain. DLing movies and such doesn't sound job-related to me. If it is their job, then yeah you need to find a way to support them. But if they are just screwing around then you should consider applying some restrictions to their accounts, warning them about abusing corporate resources, and moving on to something more important. And then report them to management if they give you more trouble.
I'd like to help but I am having a hard time reading your post. It just doesn't make sense to me. Can you please rephrase it? Or perhaps someone with better interpretation skills can help?
That device definitely won't do it Here are some ideas, depending on which route you want to take: http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/ADSL-...ment-HOWTO.html http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com/ http://freshmeat.net/projects/bwmtools/ http://www.dirfile.com/freeware/bandwidth-monitor.htm
