Probably not, but they *should* FDV has a great point...should the dev team spend time supporting this when it is still beta and subject to lots of change? Maybe a user poll is in order? If everyone wants it, then I guess it is worth it. Just seems to me, IMHO, that there are better things the devs could be doing that chasing their tails over an evolving problem like this.

You probably already know to make sure the scope is deconflicted with the IP range that you normally work with... Is this true for all of the workstations in question? None of them can ping/traceroute past the ISA? But all of the known good machines can do so? FYI, the proxy might only filter port 80 or could limit other traffic altogether... I usually use VMWare, but I think that VPC uses the host adapter addresses. Check your VMs to see how they are networking and if they are getting separate IPs. Not likely. From an IP accounting perspective it will look like two different machines (IPs/MACs). Probably not, but in the interest of troubleshooting you should disable the WLAN so we can eventually/finally pinpoint your problem. Have you ruled this out? ??? Do you intend to try this?BTW, your new avatar is cool

Awesomely detailed post! That is one crazy environment you are running there. Sounds like a nightmare to administer... Looks like a browser proxy setting issue for these reasons: Can ping the proxy VMWare can get through the proxy Other apps can get through the proxy The environment seems diverse enough to rule out authentication But then this issue conflicts with that notion: Does this include simple pings? Try pinging a remote host outside of the proxy.Another shot in the dark: how is VMWare networking setup? How do you manually setup the proxy settings on the machines, other apps and virtual machines? The secret probably lies within there I know you keep asserting this theory but it really sounds like a long shot to me. A patch that breaks networking at layer 4 would be big news I think. You can try to troubleshoot the patches...on a machine that works fine, make yourself a list of what patches it doesn't have (when compared to a machine that is broken) and then install the the patches one-by-one, testing browser access to internet after each patch + reboot.

In VMWare, use NAT instead of Bridged and forward the port on your router to your IP. NAT will give the VM the same IP as the host machine (192.168.0.100).

Some brainstorming is in order so here comes a hail of bullets in the dark Is there something else that these machines have in common? Subnet? Domain/workgroup? Group membership? You've tried different users, I'm sure. When using DHCP, do the machines get valid addresses? Shot in the dark, but could help pinpoint the problem depending on where the DHCP server resides. You said that activity stops at the ISA server, can these machines ping it? What error do you get when you try to access the web through it? The proxy settings for the browser is OK? The working VMs at least tells us that it isn't a physical problem. Is there a patch or some other software that is unique to these machines?-- re: funnily, yeah...I said it doesn't sound like a real word B)

@gamehead: Your powers of interpretation are astounding! Or mine are that weak... @muddassar: Try this as well: http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html

Are all of those new machines being deployed from the same master image? Has that master image been tested for this problem? Is it a special homebrew image that has been nLited or some other such wizardry? Assuming you have already checked the gateway address and DNS addresses on the affected machines...is it a static or DHCP network? Could be an IP conflict. I use that word sometimes because it doesn't sound like a real word and my gf gets annoyed at me

It may just be me, but I have the hardest time understanding your posts. Please restate your question.

I use a freeware program called disclib. It works well for me. Also, it is available in an installer-less zip and has good import/export functionality for portability.

Please use this poll instead.

Here is a page that descibes how to set this up. I suggest you use it as a kind of checklist to figure out where your problem lies. One scenario is that the scripts are exiting for some reason because of the terminal services session. Add a pause near the start of the script so that you can see if they are at least getting initialized.

The HFSLIP subforum has moved to: Member Contributed Projects - Other Member Contributed Projects -- HFSLIP This change reflects the fact that HFSLIP supports XP as well as Windows NT4/2000/2003.

Are those last two referencing HFCLEANUP capabilities?

Thanks for posting the solution. Do those rules apply to AOL in other areas as well or just Germany? (the domain would obviously change...)

What settings did you use to get successful playback in MPC? Posting that info is likely to help someone else Also please post what vid card driver version you are using with those settings. MPC is much more flexbile than WMP as you can see by the settings we have been dicussing. You could try upgrading your version of WMP if it isn't the latest. I'm not sure how to get WMP to use the same settings as MPC is using since it just goes with the system defaults. I think there is a utility for to change the defaults in one of the K-Lite codec packs. Another idea would be FFDShow since all of those options can be set there and then filtered through to WMP. Also, I saw in a FAQ somewhere that switching the extension of those .rm and .rmvb files can affect playback but I doubt that this would be the case for our codec implementation. Worth a shot, though...

Did the unique problem that you had with paint have anything to do with your start menu? @tommyp: could/should his first three items be merged into one reducer with 'laptop' in the filename? The first two are definitely laptop keepers, the third isn't all of the time.

Do you use any software that might make gross usage of your profile space? Perhaps a game or a multimedia suite? A good way to find the culprit would be to wait until your folder is at the large size again and then do a search on it for all files over, say, 10MB. Then sort them by file size (in the DETAILS view) and you should see which files are taking up so much space.

Lazy? This isn't about me. It is about making the information easily accessible to everyone. Thanks for posting that zip. SP2 can be expected to include all published hotfixes at the time of its release. Here is a summary of what is new with SP2 (most emphasis is mine): Windows Deployment Services Starting with this version of Windows Server 2003 with SP2, Remote Installation Services is replaced by Windows Deployment Services. You can use Windows Deployment Services to set up new computers through a network-based installation without having to be physically present at each computer and without having to install directly from DVD media. For more information about Windows Deployment Services, see the Windows Deployment Services Update Step-by-Step Guide. Networking and Communications This version of Windows Server 2003 SP2 includes an update that allows you to simplify the creation and maintenance of Internet Protocol security (IPsec) policy. This update enables you to use an IPsec "Simple Policy." For most environments, the installation of this update lets you reduce the number of IPsec filters that are required for a Server Isolation deployment or for a Domain Isolation deployment. You can reduce the number of IPsec filters from many hundreds of filters to only two filters. Group Policy support for non-broadcasting networks and Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) settings has been added to the Windows wireless client in Windows Server 2003 SP2. This update allows the Windows wireless client to accept additional wireless Group Policy configuration options. These new settings include support for WPA2 parameters and non-broadcast networks. The Windows wireless client now supports WPA2, allowing you to take advantage of high levels of standards-based connection and encryption security. New security features include: Non-broadcast network profiles are now marked with a flag to improve the security of the Windows wireless client. Windows will not automatically connect to a peer-to-peer network, even if it has been automatically saved in the preferred network list. You must manually connect to a peer-to-peer network profile. Clustering A new event log event has been created to address certain situations in which the Cluster Service Account becomes excessively restricted by domain policy. Data Access Components XmlLite is new with Windows Server 2003 SP2. XmlLite is a fast, low-level, native XML parser with a small memory footprint. Distributed Systems New options have been added to the Dcdiag.exe Domain Name Service (DNS) tests. These new options are /x and /xsl:xslfile.xsl or /xsl:xsltfile.xslt. They generate XML tags when the tests are run with the /test:dns option. You can use this new output mechanism to more easily parse the verbose log that the DNS tests generate. File Systems Icacls.exe is an upgrade of the Cacls.exe tool in Windows Server 2003 SP2, and can be used to reset the account control lists (ACL) on files from Recovery Console, and to back up ACLs. Also, unlike Cacls.exe, Icacles.exe correctly propagates changes to and creation of inherited ACLs. Microsoft Message Queuing The default storage limit for message queuing has been changed to 1 gigabyte (GB).

It seems like a good thing to have posted although it would probably be more useful it were somehow integrated into the stickied lists that we already have. But we have lots of stickied posts already...man, this forum is getting sticky! I was wondering if anyone uses the_guy's lists anymore...Tomcat's seem to get the most attention since he has his neato wizard-y page.

heh, all of the forums on that site are protected...you can't browse them without registering and logging in. Would you mind posting the info you referred to in this forum to save some people the trouble?
-
Aww man you had my hopes up. Hopefully he shows up soon... I think some other HFSLIPpers have contacted him via email before. Not sure when he was last heard from. He hasn't logged into this board since 29th March 2006.

Do you have a link? I found this site, but the forum is a link to RyanVM's forums.

Did you really hear from Oleg are you just kidding around?

I can't find any really solid documentation about this. Wikipedia had a little information and the official timeline just says it will come out this year. R2 isn't the same thing, but here is a list of how it differs. Hopefully we get a list like this for SP2.
