if you get a File Not Found..... are you using \'s? i believe those give you the root of the drive. IF you plan on your files BEING in the root of the CD (not in a folder) then you'll be fine. If they are not meant to be....you may want to fix that. Most commands in cdshell like boot or chain, if the file is found and everything is good, will give you a Command Can Not Execute or something. VMware would be a good place to try it. you may just want to have the CDShell stuff in the image (same structure and what not) but move the bulk of the files (like XP and whatever else you install) in a different directory (not in the one your using for the ISO) so it doesn't take long between each tests of the menu.

help with the unattended win xp installation
Alanoll replied to Marthax's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
just because i haven't seen it... are you using any sort of boot folders? Such as with Gosh's reduce source or a multiboot disc? if you are, then the winnt.sif file should go in the boot folder and not I386. I didn't see anything wrong, but I don't have my winnt.sif to compare against. -
have Long file names copied on hd
Alanoll replied to cyberchicken's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
ooooh, I know this.... Converting Short File Names to Long File NamesIf you use Winnt.exe to preinstall the operating system, all files and folders in the distribution share must be in 8.3 format for Windows Setup to copy the files. In addition, you must always use 8.3 file names when copying a set of files from one computer to another using MS-DOS. Use the $$Rename.txt file to restore these 8.3 names to long file names during Windows Setup. $$Rename.txt must be located in the $OEM$\$1 folder. Syntax for $$Rename.txtThe syntax for $$Rename.txt: [section_name_1]Short_name_1 = "Long_name_1[$$]"Short_name_2 = "Long_name_2[$$]" . .Short_name_x = "Long_name_x[$$]" [section_name_2] . . ParametersSection_name_1, Section_name_2, and so on Paths to the folders that contain the files. A section can be unnamed, or it can have a backslash (\) as its name. The backslash indicates that the section contains the names of the files or subfolders that are on the root of the drive. Short_name_1, Short_name_2, and so on Names of the files or subfolders in this folder to rename. Do not enclose the names in quotation marks. Long_name_1, Long_name_2, and so on New names of the files or subfolders. Enclose these names in quotation marks if they have spaces or commas. If Long_name_x is the name of the Profiles directory and has a "$$" appended at the end, Setup merges this directory with the current Profiles directory. For example, if the $$Rename.txt file contains these entries: [\]D = "Documents and Settings$$"then files listed in this section are placed in the "Documents and Settings$$" Profiles directory. -
help with the unattended win xp installation
Alanoll replied to Marthax's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
unattednedswitch is for oobe. (The welcome screen, to create your user and setup internet and register) i think he's still in setup. He mentioned the three ticks on the side. there could be a error in your winnt.sif file. Perhaps you have DefaultHide or something other then what you intended. -
are you going to remove change the admin password later? it would be wise.... if you don't, it would be one easy way to access your computer. Get your IP address. open remote desktop....and you're in. No problems at all.

did you replace the files in the floppy image? (the boot sector of the Win98 disk is actually a floppy, atleast mine is) and then when you recreated the image used the edited Image as the bootsector. In CDIMAGE you just tell it the img file instead of the WinXP bootsector. I dunno how in Nero.
-
alrighty then... I'll look into it. I personally don't use that anymore. I took an example from the Microsoft boot image. I'll post details about it either today or tomorrow. Hopefully that works for you. I think it worked for daywalker....
-
hmmm.... i wonder if Win98 is smart like WinNT? perhaps looking for a tag file..... if you get some time, you could leave out the ALL IN ONE part, and just have the same structure but for just Win98 (saves time building image) but also add the win98 (the one with all the cabs) at the root of the drive.... I'll attempt a few things later on today. Hmmm....

How To Make 2nd CD Unattend Installation
Alanoll replied to yazanaswad's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
you have to resolve the CDROM drive letter in your batch. then replace %systemdrive% with %CDROM% in all your commands. http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/runonceex_cd.htm read that part about getting the drive letter. -

[AUTORUN]open= icon= on the open line, put the relative path to the file you want executed. icon is optional, and allows you to specify an icon, icon index, icon library to change the icon of the drive when the disk is inserted. -
Problem with Q823718 update
Alanoll replied to yazanaswad's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
first you may wish to use the more uptodate patch for MDAC. Q832483 but in any case....it's still Q823718.EXE /C:"dahotfix.exe /q /n" /q -
you can install the powertoys through XPCreate. They'd go in the directory where MSI's go. BUT, you'll have to extract the MSI's from teh downlaoded EXEs from microsoft. I think they all have them, except TweakUI. Someone made one, and you can find it at unattended.msfn.org and look at hte PowerToys section.

this is what i meant.... path=%RAMD%:\;a:\;%CDROM%:\SETUP\98SE\WIN98\%CDROM%cd \Setup\98SE\Win98\OEMSETUP.EXE /K "/IE /NF"

alrighty..... do you have a Pentium4 hyperthreaded CPU? or a normal one?
-
how did txtsetup.sif get compressed? don't uncompress all of them. I have 10 uncompressed files in my boot folder. You could try remaking it real quick. Shouldn't take all that long...unless you modified some files.

About the unattended timeline...
Alanoll replied to mrjojo's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@mrjojo: I don't know if you're lucky or not @big_bie: I believe its at first start up. Before RunOnce keys are processed. If you think about it....OOBE has to have a connection to register Windows. But there isn't an active connection during install. That's what I've read though on the microsoft website, and they've been wrong a couple of times. -
have you tried something other than localhost? have you tried those commands in a normal Windows environment? put a PAUSE in between each line, and see if an error is returned.
-
yeah....ok.... tells me something.... post your darn files. I can't help you. I can only ASSUME you did everything correct, and then if that were the case, everything would be working....
-
are your regfile and cmd file for the autologon in the same directory as your cmdlines.txt?
-
FILESCD\$OEM$ i think... also, you don't have to ALWAYS expect a reply in 10 minutes....some people go weeks....or maybe no one has been to the board....

ECHO.ECHO Restarting the PC in 5 seconds...shutdown.exe -r -f -t 30 -c "Windows XP will now restart in 5 seconds" ECHO.ECHO Deleting Driver Installation Files...RD /S /Q %systemdrive%\Drivers ECHO.ECHO Deleting Temp Installation Files...RD /S /Q %systemdrive%\installEXITI don't know if Drivers will get deleted, it should.... but your Shutdown wasn't working before because you deleted teh batch file before it execute the restart......your new code should work....atleast with the Restart....
-

-
yeah....someone made one.... but it just selects what to install, doesn't allow you to add more to it using an interface.
