  1. Did you install USBSUPP.EXE and then USBUPD2.EXE (see Post #2)? What do you mean by "Both the 4280 and the 4281 files were executable"? Use the single one suggested. Did you ever get into your BIOS? 1 - In BIOS, Enable all Devices. You can use the Function Key stated there to allow for "Use BIOS Defaults" or "Use Setup Defaults" (the latter is exists is preferable). 2 -No Add-In Cards. They get added later - remove them. 3 - Set the Jumper on the MotherBoard to use On-Board Video. 4 - Install your Win95C. Allow Reboots when requested. 5 - Reboot, then Install the Video Driver. Allow Reboots when requested. 6 - Reboot, then Install the Sound Driver. Allow Reboots when requested. 7 - Reboot, then Install the USB Drivers (Post#2). Allow Reboots when requested. 8 - Reboot. DO NOT install any Updates or Update Packs until all Hardware is functional. Report back the results, step-by-step what you did. Installing a "basic" Windows95 on that PC is not complicated. It was specifically designed for Windows 98 (First Edition) so will easily accept Windows 95c (Last Edition).
  2. GRUB-2 is Linux. Grub4DOS is designed specifically for Microsoft, hence EASIER... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2
  3. 1 - Place GRLDR in ROOT of C-Drive 2 - Rename NTLDR to NTLDR.BIN 3 - Rename GRLDR to NTLDR 4 - Put the following in a file named MENU.LST in ROOT of C-Drive color white/blue black/light-gray timeout 20 default 0 [[hook1]] title Microsoft Windows XP Professional x86 unhide (hd0,0) hide (hd0,1) chainloader /NTLDR.BIN [[hook2]] title Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 unhide (hd0,1) hide (hd0,0) root (hd0,1) chainloader +1 [[hook3]] title Reboot reboot title Shutdown haltYou can STILL boot the x86 at this point. Your problem now is only to get the x64 into the second partition.
  4. Nope... they ARE Third Party Tools, usually built around using SoftThinks. They are "generally" special Master Boot coding. For Dell, just do a google on "goodells" (the man's name) that provides a wealth of info on Dell. The scenario "generally" goes like this - 1 - Press the Fx Key 2 - "Hidden" Partition is booted to instead of Regular OS one 3a - Code there May/May-not "mess" with bits in the MBR 3b - Code May/May-not transfer control to ANOTHER paritition 4 - You get "Restore" Options - pick as given and it "happens" 5 - Any "messed with" code is "undone" 6 - You now boot to the Restored Regular OS partition Why do you think Dell (etc.) does NOT use 3d Party methods? Grub4DOS (AFAIK) has a method of doing something along those lines. Are you suggesting IF your HDD totally FAILS? Did you NOT have either Restore -OR- Recovery CD's/DVD's before it happens (big mistake)? On a side note, you MAY be referring to some "stunts" pulled for an OS like Vista/Win7. Still the same methodology, though, even when booting to the (not WinPE) WinRE to allow for Restores of WIM files. Best I can tell you...
  5. I'll suggest NOT "Grub" but Grub4DOS (NOT the same thing). It's very easy to set up. Download - http://sourceforge.net/projects/grub4dos/ Tutorial - http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/Grub4dos.htm Two items used - "GRLDR" and "MENU.LST" in the C-drive. The tricky part IF you want to install BOTH to a (quote)C-Drive(unquote) is that you will have to TOTALLY hide the FIRST install so the SECOND install will "think" it's installing to "C"... For that initial "trick" you MIGHT be able to use PTEDIT32 found here - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/tools/pq/utilities I'm making a "guess" that as long as it's in the "Active/Boot" state that it will boot in spite of the fact that it's "temporarily hidden". You could make a basic LiveXP and place the program on the CD "just in case". In any case, read the Tutorials thoroughly.... Flip/Flop the HDD Designations for each Boot. You can "cheat" and rename GRLDR<->NTLDR so the BootPart goes to NTGRLDR first and use MENU.LST to control the Booting/Hiding-unhiding.
  6. BWAHAHAHAHAH! Thank you both for the hoot of the day!
  7. Here it is - http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2012/10/28/upgrading-to-windows-8-part-1.aspx You chose Option 2. And it APPEARS that a "Windows.old" fold would indeed been created, thus "filling" your HDD - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/72bfccf8-c6c1-4bbe-88f8-284d9c6311d0/
  8. In that case, this makes absolutely no sense and anyone else stumbling onto this topic will have no clue as to Your Solution.
  9. OK, so basically it "blew up" because it didn't have enough HDD Space to "preserve" the PREVIOUS Windows Installation in case you want to "Uninstall The Upgrade", correct? If so, you are aware that you now have no means to revert to the Windows7, right?
  10. WinPE - Win32 version of CMD. Try Command Prompt then "help" as the Command. I was telling the "default" Time Zone.Read this for what "happens"... http://www.myitforum.com/forums/Time-Change-during-OSD-in-WinPE-m214612.aspx IOW, there IS NO "TIME ZONE" in WinPE - it works from the "base" of "GMT-8", i.e "Assume GMT in the BIOS, now subtract EIGHT".
  11. Well, I DID say "Try it...". I guess I ASSUMED they would instead of asking "Will It Work?"... Short answer - - Try It! edit - forgot to say... Good Morning, Mr. Grammar Policeman! (Bwahahah!)
  12. AMI BIOS... A HINT - Press the "Pause/Break" button (top row, far right) when you first turn it it. If you're lucky (no Manufacturer Logo), it'll show you AND give your exact BIOS-ID. Here's a "general list" of BIOS Access Keys - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_bios.htm Again, be aware of the BIOS updates provided that MAY not work. If you REALLY want to Update the BIOS, I'll check them out and give EXACT procedures for backup/restore if worse-to-worse. It APPEARS to (maybe) have two different BIOS Chip manufacturer types, MXIC/Macronix or "Other"/ST-something-or-other. Potentially, you can get up to 32gb HDD and a "better" CPU (up to a 533mhz) to work in it. I think your RAM may be maxed out.
  13. Please stop cluttering this Topic with Off-Topic questions. Try it, then open your OWN thread for assistance...
  14. Tip... see -X- UDC Downloader.
  15. GMT-8 (GMT Minus 8) Google...
  16. JFYI... Certain filetypes aren't allowed to be directly attached. Always better to ZIP first. Still, as I asked (in Edit) was the prob? And could you edit that god-awful LOOOOOOOONG post? It's taking a WHOLE PAGE.
  17. Yes, it will... 1 - ZIP 2 - "Use Full Editor" 3 - Browse for and select Zipped File 4 - Click "Attach This File" <-attachment# is assigned 5 - Click "Add To Post" <-probably unnecessary but can put anywhere in post 6 - Done! !! attachment.zip HTH edit - so what was the problem w/Win8?
  18. Thx for reminder... BTW, re - SWFLASH - you're getting the "consumer" one instead of the "licensed" one ("Just the flash, Ma'am" <- Joe Friday).
  19. HO-key SMOKES!!!! ATTACH, not Copy/Paste! ZIP and Attach in "Use Full Editor".
  20. IF you are using the "crystal_CS4280.zip" THEN - 1 - UNZIP to ANOTHER folder of your choice. You must CREATE one FIRST! 2 - DO NOT use the SETUP.EXE found inside. POINT to the FOLDER and/or the "CWCAUDIO.INF" instead. 3 - IF you are asked to REBOOOT -and- asked, POINT TO THAT FOLDER again! Inside that INF is THIS [DestinationDirs] CS4610SP.CopyList = 10,cwcdata DefaultDestDir = 11 <snip> [SourceDisksNames] 1=%Disk1Name%,,0001 73170=WHQL,"",73170 [SourceDisksFiles] cwc3d.os_=1 <snip> FUSV2870.cat=73170 [Strings] <snip> Disk1Name="Crystal SoundFusion(tm) Driver Disk 1" Disk2Name="Crystal SoundFusion(tm) Driver Disk 2"THESE specifically mean "what-folder/where-the-files-are" (Source) and where to COPY them to (Destination). Explaining how an INF works here is beside the point and numerous topics exist on MSFN for that so I don't want to repeat all of the details. The "SETUP.EXE" is totally unnecessary/irrelevant. Directly from the Motherboard Documentation The Block Diagram has the Sound Chip as "CS4280" and the AC97 Codec Chip as "CS4297". These work in conjunction with each other if you look at it. Google thiscs4280 cs4297gives a bunch of Datasheets and Links that say "Sound Fusion". Here is a link to the Vendor's Website announcing the Chip - http://www.cirrus.com/en/company/releases/P109.html and THIS gives a Self-Extracting WINZIP file that specifically states THAT COMBO OF CHIPS and the contents are nearly IDENTICAL! http://www.fujitsu-pc-asia.com/driversupport/archiveddriver/Desktop/drv_dp6000_sc6.html If you read the FIRST link you'll see why the Drivers for CS4610 Chip work with CS4280 Chip. You're doing something wrong! I can NOT test this as I NO LONGER HAVE any of the old PC's because they went to the Recyclers. (sigh...) Searched some more. Apparently HP XM600 uses it too! Here is a COMPLETE package (nearly identical and NEWER) but ALSO includes (from the Readme) "CrystalWave Software Synthesizer version 2.33". IOW, you DO have EXACTLY what's needed and are OBVIOUSLY doing it wrong! AND from reading THIS the "SETUP.EXE" should work! HTH...
  21. Why create another opinion thread on the subject when so many already exist?
  22. Your choice of "Beta" or "stable I suppose. Beta's are usually (sic) "pre-release". http://webtrends.about.com/od/glossary/g/beta_define.htm Basically, they're shooting for the next Full Release v3.The Beta from each site is undoubtedly exactly the same. Notice BOTH names mentioned? If in doubt, try the "stable" release first and see if you're satisfied with it.
  23. Well, YES there's a difference. Didn't you notice the Version Number and the link originally given says BETA?
  24. The OP isn't coming back - one single post...
  25. OK, on a side note - that EXE file I pointed you to is OBVIOUSLY not a ZIP file! I said RUN the EXE and IT will unPACK to a folder of your choice and AUTOMATICALLY RUN the Installer - it's a Self-Extracting Installer. You apparently were confusing it with the OTHER one. No matter... You mean "640 x 480"? Adjusting Screen Position can't be from Drivers - that's strictly hardware. You may have a bad monitor? FWIW, you MAY want the INF file for your Monitor. If you say what the Model is on back I may have one. It DOES help a bit.
